Here's the thing - im preeety confident that my father (the only parent I live with) will be accepting and really want to help me. Trouble is, I have a lot of siblings and, even though we get by real well, I know that we don't have thousands to dish out just to make me feel better. So, I guess what i'm wondering is, how much is HRT going to cost, monthly? Will insurance pay for any of this? Do I absolutely need to be doing this through my parents, or can I pay for hormones through my own income?
All responses are REALLY appreciated, thank you very much!
depends greatly where you are and what your insurance is like, though in general I think hormones have a relatively reasonable price. I pay $20/month for all of mine.
Good luck!
No insurance and using Groupon coupons gets me down to 60usd a month. If I went to walmart instead of wallgreens I could probably drop it another 15.
In the USA

Thank you very much, this is very encouraging news. For some reason I assumed it would be terribly pricey, but I think it may actually be doable.

As for insurance. Depends on the policy and it's exclusions. Except fro surgeries, my transition costs are fully covered by mine. I just have to pay copays. I was paying $15 a month for my meds, but getting my doc to make the prescriptions for 90 days now means i pay $15 for three months.
This is a 90 day supply for me:
5mg/day - Finasteride 5mg 90p pills $23.99 list, $5 my cost.
2mg morning, 2 mg evening - Estradiol 2mg tabs 180 pills $20.00 list, $5 my cost.
100mg morning, 100mg evening - Spironolactone 100mg 180 pills $238.99 list, $5 my cost.
I recently switched from Spiro to Medroxyprogesterone Acetate Injectable, USP. It's a generic for Depo Provera birth control shot and works as an AA. I don't have the price here, but it was $90ish list and $5 for my cost. Each injection is for 91 days. I have to do the injection myself, but I know how to do them. It came in a prefilled single use syringe.
I don't know what your copays for doctor's visits and testing will cost you. You should have your hormones, liver, and a couple other things tested to track how well the meds are working, and if bad side effects har happening.

Holy fuck spiro is what's expensive over here in the US. Estradiol is like 10 bucks for us.

They're coupons your pharmacist puts in for a discount.

Just use Goodrx instead.

Oh fuck I'm retarded I meant goodrx. I've been looking at laser stuff all day so I've had groupon stuck in my mind.

about $2.4k a year and my liver
I have United Health Insurance.
Spiro: $5
Estradiol: $5
Both are generic. So $10 in total for a month's supply. Without insurance, both would be $30, and it would be $60 a month.
