Extreme communism is almost impposible to implement, it hangs too much on the government willingly giving its power away since the end goal is a society where you don't have any centralized kind of power. If we focus on the end goal a lot of people would prefer the communist anarchy (self government buy the workers) to the liberalist anarchy (complete free market), since in the second case a minority improves their conditions while the majority stays the same. You misunderstand the context of Joan's life.
Virtually everyone in the middle ages would have believed in God, and in the Holy Catholic Church - are you, then, implying that all our ancestors were crazy? No, they lived in different times and could only understand the world through the teachings of the Church. Do we not 'hear voices' of our own? But today, we don't attribute them as God - just our reason. Now, I'm speculating but perhaps Joan, who had grown up amidst a war and seen her country ravaged by the English, was moulded by her experiences and felt the need to see a hero take a stand against the invaders. Perhaps, assuming she was trans, she took this innate desire to transcend her feminine form as a message from God - not because she was a 'crazy bitch' but because that's how she understood her world. Don't forget, all science, all rationality, at this point is intrinsically linked with God - if you want an explanation for how something is, you looked to the Bible. So, to Joan, the only explanation she could possibly have for her desires may have simply been because God wills it. Now I'm speculating, as we've said, she may not even have been trans, but my point here is that you're making a mistake by assuming she's a crazy bitch - you have to acknowledge the world in which she grew up, and how fundamentally different it is to our own.
Secondly, okay, we can't know she is but it is important to consider if she COULD have been. Why? i also don't think that a woman dressing as a man at a time when women were historically extremely repressed in order to do something only men were allowed to do is indicative of that woman being trans... there wasn't the option of "be a woman, dress as a woman, do it anyway" so assuming someone who did what had to be done in order to fulfill what they saw as their purpose was also trans makes little sense... is it absolutely impossible? no, but there isn't a good case to say it was either
