The pendulum has probably already begun to swing to less liberal. The beginnings of the LGBT movement: gays and lesbians were leaving marriages to go find themselves. For about 10-20 years, getting married was the thing the straights did, not LGBT. Gays and Lesbians made fun of the normals getting married. The idea of gay marriage in the US originated in right wing think tanks. It was only until the Bush administration abandoned the idea to get the evangelical vote that it became championed by the left. LGBT are becoming more accepted but LGBT are having to become more "normal" ...or more socially conservative in the process. It may be that the new group that gets socially stigmatized are the ones that do not get married and form long term, socially stable relationships. This could be both hets and homos.

We're already kinda seeing the closet homophobes thing, with politicians who want to take away lgbt rights but have 'gay friends' in a weird attempt to gain the lgbt vote. As for the whole no closeted homosexual thing, I honestly do think that while we've made great progress in the last few years, and we're still making progress today, there's always going to be homophobes, and as long as they have kids there will be closeted children.
