To put it in a better perspective, there's a 50/50 shot of any fetus being born as a specific gender. In other words, there's a very real chance someone could have been born as an opposite gender. And this means there's a very real possibility for some sort of fuckup to occur - where you get the mind of one gender in the body of another.

Except intersex people exist. While not all transgender people are intersex, the fact that intersex people exist at all tells us that it is possible for the fetus to develop problems with their sex during the womb.
