I think it's the name. Masc is something feminine gay men can't stand, they foam at the mouth in anger when ever they hear the word. I was an autistic child and didn't get therapy to reduce the impact so I had to figure this shit out on my own (I'm doing waaaay better and people don't even notice I'm asperger's unless it's explicitly pointed out to them OR they're looking for it).
It's all about naming your emotions. There are 2 kinds of emotional expression, direct and indirect. As an autismlord, I learned to communicate emotions indirectly through music. Men are expected to express emotion through body language and such much more than people think; the issue is that if a man doesn't express emotion, then it's not considered to be weird and is occasionally even praised (very rarely though). More of a negative-space thing than a "MEN DON'T EMOTE."
All you have to do is name an emotion you feel. For instance, if you feel like this post is too long, say, "I'm bored. This post is really long and boring. It makes me feel like I want to go whack off to gay midget porn instead." Say it aloud. You're like a baby when it comes to these things, you have to start slow.
Once you've practiced expressing emotions verbally, you'll start being more aware of the way you feel. After a while emotions will come more naturally to you and you'll be able to have a better control over the kinds of emotions you express using your body language or words.

Yeah. A lot of the time guys don't get any good "sexy" options, or they're just shirtless and manly and there's no sex appeal for them. While sometimes a "boring" character can let me self-insert (I am 6'8", blond, with green eyes, and have a mod for Skyrim installed that lets me change my POV so that my blond green-eyed Nord gets a realistic field of vision after I use console commands to change him to 1.3x normal size), I also play games to try on different "hats" and male characters don't always offer the kinds of hats a female character could provide.
With that said if there was a game that let me play as sexy, handsome, elegant, a catty bitch, or a regal prince without me making up basically every part of their character in my head, I would never need to play a female character. And honestly, isn't that how it should be? :P

My advice:
Set the tone at minute one by making sure you touch him somehow right when you meet him. Not just a handshake either. Hand on the shoulder. Hug. Make eye contact, too. Even if you're a total bottom boi bitch slut, being assertive and showing interest is still a good idea.
