/lgbt/, how do you feel about having a roommate of the opposite sex?
I'm a lesbian, in college, and have been looking for a roommate. My best applicant is a guy.
It's not that I necessarily have an issue with the fact that he's male. It's just I don't have a lot of experience with men. I was raised without a dad, all sisters, always had female friends. Honestly my total exposure to men has been almost entirely business, at work or dealing with teachers/authority figures. I've never really dealt with a guy for any extended amount of time.
Because of this I don't really know what to expect. I'm gonna end up choosing him as my roommate because I need the money every month, and unless a good female applicant comes up soon I don't have a choice. Don't know if he's straight or gay, didn't feel right to ask him.
I dunno, what should I expect? He seems like a decent person but for some reason I'm on edge about it. Like, I don't know how to behave around a guy at all. I just want this to work?

From what I've seen, guy roommates usually see female roommates as prey they see themselves hooking up with somewhere in the future. He might be vocal about it and openly flirt with you, or keep it to himself. I'd bet on the latter, but maybe that's just me being inexperienced and optimistic.
Bottom line, if he makes it awkward, just be upfront about it.
Guy here, I can understand where you're coming from and all I can really say is he'll either be shy enough to leave you alone or a good enough person to respect your space. There is of course a slight chance that you'll majorly conflict but it's unlikely enough that if I were you I wouldn't worry.
My experience could be different, of course, being male myself so feel free to disregard what I say if better advice comes along

Personally I would not want to live with a guy, but it has nothing to do with being gay.
