It's higher than 1-2% if you group LGT people together.
Also it's probably nothing to do with "control" and could be more to do with effective raising of children. Lots of animals have social circles where a significant portion don't reproduce and instead focus effort on raising other's children.
One hypothesis is homosexuality evolved related to this although it's questionable if they can actually prove this.
