Gotta go with the other guy on this -- back in the 90s I fired a 500rd brick of .22LR every Sunday when the weather was nice for a couple years, sometimes a brick-and-a-half. I have thousands of rounds under my belt. I've probably encountered 2-3 dozen rimfire failures in my life and have seen another 10 or so in the guns of others (not counting defective/broken guns that needed gunsmithing to work reliably again). Cheap Chinese .22 and the cheapest US-made stuff seems to have produced the most FTFs, IIRC. I think new .22 rimfire ammo is as reliable as good military surplus ammo.
