Unless you just really have to have a 308, I would get a No4 for a little less in the same condition.
I have an Ishapore 2A and never really cared for it much, it and SMLEs don't really speak to me like No4s do.
In my opinion it is not much better than a Mosin, or Mauser, or Arisaka, and is of course shit compared to God-Tier American made Springfield. Do not worry brother, there are more fish in the sea and more WWII era battle rifles in some crates stowed away in Finland or some shit.

Also the Ishapores have gotten to the price where you may as well save up a bit more for one in .303 which is slightly cooler looking. You are right in ammo availability, part of the reason why I'll probably be getting one as my first Lee Enfield design.

in fairness, that is a known defect in extremely early production rifles and not many ever actually failed catastrophically when used correctly.

mausers were the first of the bubba rifles (after the krag), post ww2 a ton of them came into the us for dirt cheap, not only nazi surplus but also countries upgrading to the FAL, M14, G3, etc that had previously used mausers or other bolt guns.
So then hunters and the like bought them for a quarter of the cost of an american rifle, chopped down the stock and barrel, drilled them for a scope, fitted recoil pads, etc. 8mm mauser had one of the widest varieties of loads availible at one point.
now that surplus mausers are all long gone (save for yugos) that market has also dried up. and not all of the aftermarket for mausers will work with the m48.

but mausers were unique in that many conisdered them at the time to be the most accurate of the surplus actions. the carinco, arasaka, and enfields were considered to not be constructex as well as german rifles. it didnt help that they were often the cheapest.
