Property value?

Why the fuck would i do that

They are in the walls.
>>

Hmmmm...not sure if my sarcasm detector needs recalibrazion.

Yes.
>>
>>30636039
Because if an object enters my property at a speed greater than 600fps, my house automatically withdraws into the ground like stubby penis in an ice fishing accident. My slanted Chobham roof deflects any incoming fire away, and the turrets I've made from Mini-14's and old lawnmowers don't rely on the power grid. Vehicles and infantry would be held up by the Roman fossam encircling the property, which I have thickly planted with giant hogweed and poison ivy. I've run drainage tiling out from the house in every direction, to be used for improvised Bangalore torpedoes.

Why the fuck would I need sandbags?
>>
but my house is made of reinforced concrete? why would i need more protection?

Yes. They eat sand.

You coat it in concrete and paint it to add property value through improvement. Best way to build a car stopping front fence too.

Sandbag house? Heh.

Meet HESCO house.

I would be hard to wire, for one, unless you want a false wall on the inside too, with a good amount of space inbetween it, cutting down on your useable square footage.

Also, what are you going to do about your roof?

These things have gotten quite popular here in euroland. At various heights, full fence to knee height, these can be found commonly around town.

Not as good as hesco or sandbags, these don't tend to negatively affect property value. It'd still take a significant amount of fire to get through them. If you do shoot through them, the top rocks just spill down to cover the hole.

>>30641388
A sandbag roof, to be effective, would be too heavy because it wont be able to bear loads at an angle.

You would have to go with good ole steel.

More than bags, I skimp where I can to have money when it matters.

>too heavy
You're probably right. I might be able to use cheap roofing steel (that corrugated shit), sandwich a thin layer of sand and put another layer of roofing steel. Would be likely light enough, and the two layers of steel would provide some protection while being cheap.

It's for a house, not a fortress.
Get yourself a Flak tower if you want real defense capability. So strong that the allied forces couldn't even bring it down effectively after the germans surrendered.
>>
>>30641442
I feel like a sand layer that thin would not be effective at all and be a waste of time.

Better to just use steel, imo.

>saveing money on your life

That money you saved can be put towards your casket, fucboi.

Ha, that's the one in Vienna that the allies tried tearing down in '46 but couldn't so they left it a lone and the city turned it into a zoo.

I don't remember how much explosives they used up trying to dent those things, but it just wasn't effective at all.

Directly above? Probably a good bit of damage.

Near miss (in nuclear terms)? Not much. It'd burn the shit out of people inside of course, but the structure would remain standing.

Direct hit = gone, just like any fortress.

Other than that, I think they do have plans for it and what kind of forces it can take from different directions - basic construction engineering, really - if the blast wave is larger than those, it will fall, if not, then it stands.

Heat wave wouldn't probably matter much as concrete is very hard to burn.

Flak towers had windows and the rooftop doors were not that thick either. Most windows were filled up after the war to keep animals out.

The fire & heat would've penetrated the structure, not because of the walls letting it in, but because the windows & the (rooftop) doors.

>>30641551

That is also a very likely possibility.

I think some cold-war era ICBM launch complexes were so well protected that they could survive very, very near hits from nukes.

Disabling them more likely meant that the silo was tilted or moved by the blast wave moving ground - instead of being destroyed.

So, keeping this in mind, a nuclear detonation somewhere ABOVE the flak tower probably would not bring it down. A hit directly on it would destroy it and a hit close enough to move the foundations might cause indirect damage.

The structure would be sound, if not badly damaged from Little Boy as long as it was no closer than 300 Meters. Any closer than that and collapse becomes an increasing probability.

However, the tower was not sealed against blast effects, and at that distance, the overpressure would find its way into the structure and kill or seriously wound most inside.
I am not 100% but I would imagine that this lack of protection would show that the Flak Tower is no better than any other reinforced concrete building at protection from nuclear weapons when it comes to the survivability of the occupants.
>>
>>30642271
Howdy Oppenheimer.

What do you think that would an above ground structure have to look like in order to withstand a point-blank blast from a Little Boy?

And what would one have to look like for modern thermonuclear weapons?
