What is that on your chest? tourniquet?

So I'm guessing level 3 steel plates are absolute worthless shit since M193 punches right through?

Does anyone know at what distance out of a 20" barrel M193 fails to defeat level 3 steel?

It is a shame since I found a pretty good deal on some level 3 steels with what seems like a very capable anti-spall coating that doesn't separate with 3 shots like AR500 does.

It's all about training and practice.

The only thing that sucks is that I can't speed reload as fast as a practiced right handed person. Otherwise, it's fine. I can shoot and retention reload no problem. The right handed selector switch is usable with my trigger finger; in training it flips on and off every time the rifle raises and lowers, in real life it stays set to 'kill' for the duration of combat and I don't bother with it.

Don't fuck around with AR500 plates. The distance depends because M193 is notorious for wild velocity swings.

AT Armor lowered the price on their level IV ceramics from $189 to $169 since the Dallas shootings. Shellback Tactical is selling a pair of level IV plates for $300.

I found some level 3 plates with a good anti spall coat for $135 shipped...It should consistently stop M855 which is what the military uses right?

Yeah I've found a couple of places that have a pair of level 4 ceramics for $300. I would go with that but I was trying to stick with steel for multi hit capability.

The plate market is fucking stupid. AR500 wants $290 for a pair of level 3+ plates with their shit spall coat that comes off after 3 shots, entirely defeating the purpose of multi hit steel. For $10 more you can get level 4 ceramics that will weigh half as much.

It is like the consumers of these products are stupid hick gun nuts.

I'm going to be boring here.

Coyote Brown

Reason: Practicality. I've seen too many people end up regretting their purchase of black gear because it lacks the concealment properties of coyote. Coyote brown is versatile for all different terrains and seasons.

Gear for fighting should be both practical and versatile.

It will stop M855 which is what some of the military kind of uses. It may not stop M855A1, which is what they are currently transitioning to and is already being issued to deployed units.

Multi-hit from steel is a fucking meme, ceramics still can stop multiple rounds. All the level III ceramic plates have to stop 6 shots of M80 ball. Most any level IV plate will do that even though it's not technically a rating requirement.
>>
>>30633959
Well I appreciate it, I just don't know if Shellback/ TAG ever did any Banshees that didn't have a tag. The one pic he did send before I asked specifically for one didn't have a tag in sight, but the carry handle could have been hiding it.

>>30633876
Coyote, unless you're in Alaska it probably blends in best to must US terrain. Plus it goes well with virtually every camo pattern, the same can't be said for OD IMO.

I'd say no. Greens are specifically geared towards camouflaging you against vegetation which is sparse in different areas and seasons. Browns are mud, grass, bark, sand, etc. which are almost universally omnipresent.

>>
>>30633985
Cool thanks for the info man.

Any idea how many reasonably spaced hits of M193 or M855/M855A1 a level 4 ceramic can stop? Are you just supposed to stock up on multiple sets of plates?
>>
>>30634055
You should never have a plan where you rely on plates. Think of them as your "get out of jail free card" for being too slow or stupid, not something that you should be constantly blowing through.

depends on your budget.
but honestly the Trijicon Accupoint/Accupowers are probably the best for the money with its glass quality and features vs cost.
>>
>>30634055
No real way to say for sure because this isn't a rating requirement. If you are talking about reasonably spaced, probably as many as you can fit on the plate.

As for stocking up on plates, most departments or military units want to have at the very least 10% extra equipment in case of random breakage (eg: Johnny slipped down the stairs and landed on his back plate hard). This is hard to swing for an individual but in a militia context this still holds true.

>>
>>30634301
I would say SFP is okay depending on magnification range and intended purpose. On a long range precision gun with a mag range like 3-15x or 5-25x, FFP is the ticket because the top end magnification is so damn high it may be suboptimal given mirage and other shit. On a short range carbine for 0-500 or 0-600 yards, SFP is acceptable. You likely aren't going to be milling targets with a 1-6x or 1-4x, since in your effective ranges, you are likely going to be using heuristic range estimation methods, and you have 30 rounds on tap if the first round is not on target.

I would not be surprised to hear from someone with more experience on the patterns that Tropic was even better.

This is why I actually like multicam in western Oregon. Many people would say go with something darker like MARPAT but imo it's so dark it looks black when it catches shadows. To my eyes at least plain multicam seems to blend with the lighting much more efficiently.

Here's a pic of some of the stuff i grabbed from around the house earlier today, some has been swapped out and some new things added since then. Note though this isnt a bugoutbag What's here is
>7 AR mags (need more 30rders!)
>atlas knee and elbow pads
>face mask(couldn't get it to fit, since removed)
>mechanix gloves
>notepad (been swapped out for a smaller one)
>pen, sharpie, 2 pencils rubber banded

>guppies multitool
>2 pairs of socks
>spare batteries
>cold Steel shanghai shadow (swapped out for crkt hissastu)
>light gun cleaning kit I put together
>2 sets of disposable ear pro
>compass, whistle, thermometer, magnifying glass combo
>duct tape
>bandana
>36ish ft of paracord
>smoke signal grenade
>shit paper&trash bags (for tactical shits)
>dragon ball cap(for that operator look)

Not shown:
>Headlamp
>n95 respirator
>gi mess kit & crkt eatntool
>large GI style folding compass

Things I still need
>Chemlights/flares
>IFAK (will rummage through my medical bin and drawer, see what I can grab)
>monocular
>camelbak/water bladder
>mres/food
>maps
>poncho/shelter (looking for this stuff right now)
>more AR mags (still got mag pouches to fill)

I suspect I'll have to ditch shit/reorganize to make room for water and food, but I still have plenty of space for everything else.

Might want to consider the mini flares you'll find at camping sections as they'll store easier. Should be tan in color.

Tried out the Geiselle super 42 buffer spring in my 10.5 carbine and it works super well. No spring noise and I feel like it cycles a little smoother.

Looking for some suggestions on a starting rig. Typical ar and polymer pistol. Would like plates. I don't think I'd travel much with it (limited by family) and I'm a fairly fit guy (not military though) so weight shouldn't be a limiting factor. Ceramics seem nice though. I make decent money so mid grade would be appropriate. Suggestions?

Why can't any of the steel plate companies develop and anti-spall coating that actually works? or a Kevlar bag that contains the spall effectively over multiple shots?

The level 3+ steel plates honestly wouldn't be that bad if the anti-spall tech were there, and if they made the plates like $75 a pop.

The markup is ridiculous.

That's cool, but sometimes others can't immediately get to you and self aid can be the difference between life and death.

I would recommend either having an insert so you can take out your first aid and have access to gauze/acewrap, or even having these items in a Ziploc bag and keep it in that pouch.

I do see that tourniquet on your shoulder, so that's good.

Just my 2 cents for your r8h8. I was a combat medic for 7 years and the big thing we shoved down peoples throats in CLS/training was self aid.

Also fuck using steel for armor. Where do you think these fly-by-night armor companies source their steel from? They're buying steel from suppliers who may or may not even give a fuck, and then they waterjet it and maybe batch test it to see if it stops rounds. That's how companies like AR500 Armor end up with literally 2 months of plates coming from bad steel that doesn't even stop regular ass M80 ball. The other companies out there aren't doing anything super different, they just haven't been fucked by bad suppliers yet. Emphasis on the word yet.
>>
>>30640213
but level 4 is better than 3?
>>
>>30640367
In terms of pure protective ability, that's a fairly safe bet. The thing is that a well designed level III ceramic plate can provide good protection against common threats while also being light as hell. A 3-4 lb weight reduction per plate adds up to be fairly substantial. The caveat is that level III UHMWPE plates won't stop M855, and that level III steel has the obvious drawbacks of spall, weight, and difficulty stopping certain high velocity rounds.

They are sized off the plate size, which is the case for most PCs. So medium will hold medium SAPIs, large holds large SAPIs, etc. So size the plate first, then choose the size of carrier. The plate should be wide enough to cover both nipples completely when worn.

I found this molle pistol holster on amazon. Is it good or is it airsoft tier? The ratings are good for what its worth.

Why cant I find genuine milsurp molle holsters? Am I searching wrong? I know the military uses pistols, and presumably keeps them in a holster. Why cant I find them online?
>>
>>30643368
Don't buy nylon holsters. They're pretty much all shit compared to a real holster. It's like carrying a gun in a floppy sack. Most everyone in the military is issued some kind of rigid holster, and if they get issued the good stuff that means a Safariland.

If you need a pistol for a backup weapon and you actually have to use it, odds are it's because you don't have time to reload a rifle, or because your rifle is really fucked from a serious malfunction. Just because it's fine for carrying the pistol around doesn't mean it's actually beneficial if you have to use the pistol. The M12 isn't even that cheap, you can buy an ALS from Safariland for like $10 or $20 more.

I'm a lefty, so it's not on my firing shoulder. It's held with rubberbands so it can be removed quickly. Here is the contents of said pouch. There is also a trijicon lens pen in there.

It is mediocre and not worth the money unfortunately. I bought it for $90 and it has been just ever so slightly disappointing.

Yukon Tactical Stokeridge if you're still interested.

I've had two plastic clip things break and two sections of stitching come undone. It isn't tall enough to fit a 16"+Muzzle device AR upper in, and the main compartment is too large relative to the other compartments. You get the duffle bag effect.

I'm still looking for a large pack capable of doing 7 days.

Also still looking for a large pack that can do 3 days.

Very comfy so far, haven't worn it too much though so I don't want to lead you down the wrong path. But I'm sure happy with it.

Oh believe me, I know. I did a few air assault missions in Iraq, made me have to figure out what was needed and what wasn't real quick.

I always reach for the fresh mag before ejecting the old one. It's a conservation of movement thing. I'm not saying it's not quick, just slightly less quick than a well practiced right hand speed reload.

A notebook and decent pen are often overlooked, but highly important pieces of gear.
>>
>>30643475
I used this to get qualed on the M9, its really not that bad. That being said, I've never seen someone use this for actually carrying daily/being secfo.
>>
Soooo what's a good pen to carry? I've always thought the rite in the rain pens where overpriced garbage
>>
I just dropped 650 dollars this week on gear, and I feel fine.

You are going to cause serious autism by saying this but generally
>Quickclot/Celox gauze (not the powder)
>tourniquet
>gauze pads
>comfort shit (lip balm, aspirin, electrolytes, bandaid)
More important than the kit is the training that goes into it and working as part of a team that can provide buddy aid
>>
>>30647859
I myself have pretty severe autism. Please, be polite.

Tiger stripe
>>
>>30647830
>6 inch Israeli bandage
>nitrite gloves (several pairs)
>1 to 4 tourniquets
>quickclot/celox impregnated gauze (never the powder)
>non-impregnated gauze z fold packages
>shears

if you know what you are doing you add shit to it
>chest seals
>tape
>airways
>ect

and ifak doesn't have ">comfort shit (lip balm, aspirin, electrolytes, bandaid)"

that shit goes in a gp pouch. thats a booboo kit.
>>
>>30647900
it's holding his flash light's pressure pad to the gun. he also has his cleaning rod attached tot he gun with rubber bands sometimes.
>>
>>30647859
>comfort shit in an ifak
No. Trauma items only. Otherwise you're right.
>>30647830
>pressure/Israeli bandage
>Gauze (take what you think you need and double it)
>quick clot
>Tourniquet
>chest seal (half an MRE wrapper duct taped down works in a pinch)
>duct tape/100mph tape
>sharpie
If you have more advanced training
>Naso tube and lube
>chest decompression needle
