More foot pounds is always better especially when talking penetration, but bushing windshields AND retaining mass and penetration into the shooter is something better reserved for a rifle.
I do recall the 50 Beowulf being suggested by the military for windshield punching purposes, but pretty much anything pistol is iffy. Yeah 10mm would have been better, but don't think it would have stopped it cold.
