fuck, just saw your thread, i'll delete mine and just copy paste the info to yours

More info has surfaced about the SyAF airplane downed by ISIL recently, despite speculation from anons here, it was in fact a Mig 23 that was shot down. AMN news has a video of ISIL filming the wreckage of the plane as well of the deceased pilot who appears to be crucified to a pole.

In other (old) news, the SAA has replaced their top commander (General Mohammad Khaddour) for their eastern forces. Major General Hassan Mohammad will be his replacement. It was already rumored that Khaddour would be replaced when Russia sent advisors at the beginning of their intervention in the conflict.

It is possible that Russian (and even SAA) top brass was unimpressed with the way that Khaddour managed the eastern front and was waiting for further confirmation at his inability to produce results (as can be seen in the recent losses and/or slowed advances) in eastern Syria.

Russian and American top diplomats met to discuss both the Donbass war and the Syrian war. This comes as a recent shift in Western outlook towards the war shifts towards to reducing the chance that Syria descends into a situation that is similar to that of Libya (lack of powerful central authority, multiple militias battling each other ect....)

Just in, Russian MFA said that provocation on Russia coming - Rebels will accuse Russia in chemical weapons usage (copy pasted from livemapua).

Lastly, Darayya is about to fall to fall as the SAA's 4th mechanized division has made small but significant advances inside the town, which has put them within striking distance of the strategic Darayya railway. It appears that the SAA advances in East Ghouta are making significant progress, which put the rebels in a desperate position.
>>
>>30621695
All of the Middle East is like that though.

Syria is going through the wringer right now, but in previous generations it could easily have been Iraq or Lebanon.
>>
>>30621753
Israel just recently stopped using their Skyhawks.

They're frugal as fuck man. They probably will have legacy F-35's as far as 2060 if they continue what they've done with all their other aircraft (as in they keep the old frame and upgrade the avionics and tech every so often).

To illustrate the daraya battle, here a video of those 4th MD division up armored tanks rolling around:

Nothing much to add, aside that early today the Rebels ( Fateh Halab) have claimed tha they had regained positions at Sarhil factory on al Khalidiyah. Pro SAA sources reported some minutes that the SAA took control of the al Kornia factory on the Layramoun-Khalidiyah axis.

Yep, they sure looks cool. I imagine if one day Tamiya would release a "Syrian 4th MD Custom T-72" kit. Or even a ISIS caged T-55.

Almost nothing to report, here a photo of the pilot of the downed Syaaf jet near Deirz today; Lieutenant Colonel pilot Maher Jaber Qash'our.

Also a minor stuff that it was ISIS claiming the destruction of a SAA autocannon near the Kweires base. ISIS fighters are still lurking around that base and area in general, and from time to time ISIS release photos of their fighters taking pot shots on SAA positions.

To its defense, this was an experimental budget attire choice for a few special forces in the 70s and early 80s. When they were new tracksuits were thought to be form-fitting enough for tactical gear to be worn seamlessly, like a wetsuit. The point when it became shitty clothing was when they were mass-produced and became so cheap that shitty people started wearing them en masse.
>>
As everyone can tell by the low amount of posts ITT very little is going on in Syria other than airstrikes and artillery at all the usual fronts.

Heavy fighting ongoing at the main hospital in Manbij which is still IS held.

Rebel offensive beginning around Daraa but little ground fighting yet.

Yep, it's really a slow day, but there at least something to post:

- The Southern Front Rebels, probably pressed by other Rebel groups who think SF have been too much inactive these few last months, announced the launch of the "Hayy Allah" offensive against SAA, in the 'Triangle of Death', Daraa-Quneitra countryside.

As a side note on this, all the last Rebel attacks/assaults/offensives in the region resulted in pretty much nothing, generally after some 3 to 5 days.

Also, damn, one anon started a osprey illustration thread, that already reached image limit, with that Lebanon guerrilas image. It was a great thread and I got some new images for my folder. Thanks, anon.

Minor if any ground fighting news today but I am looking at Syracuse's new map of Syria.

http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/fr/map/desyracuse-syria-civil-war-15-july-2016_94438#9/34.9771/38.2681

If you look north of Palmyra in the IS badlands between Hama and Homs is the general location where I have a personal theory IS has a large base, mainly underground and spread out above in the hill sides. This is where the Palmyra IS fled too and of course east of Palmyra as well.

I think they started building up this area as the Russians entered the war. They had to find places to hide before the shit started raining on them. IS more than anyone in Syria spreads out under heavy air threats.

http://www.agathocledesyracuse.com/archives/799
This is a link to the map. As far as any other front's you can draw your own conclusions.

Picture is leaflets dropped into northern Homs telling the rebels to surrender or die.
>>
If the SAA can crush the Darya pocket and cut Aleppo off, this war will be starkly in their favor.

I personally think the next move should be against East Homs where ISIS controls a bunch of villages. It would help secure the SAA connections to Aleppo via Khannaser. While also securing Palmyra from the north.

Talked to a friend that lives in Turkey and he said that Erdogans last known location was in Bodrum, which is in the south of Turkey. He was on the news via facetime. >>30634804
blasts have been reported in the Taksim district (or is it the area?) in Istanbul. Erdogan is asking his supporters to go out into the streets and protest the coup.

Istanbul prosecutors office just ordered the arrest of all military forces who are partaking in the coup.

Lastly US government sources state that Erdogan is seeking asylum in Germany as we speak. He was in an airplane and was refused landing in Istanbul, he is supposedly headed to Germany right now.
>>
>>30634953

>>30634953
I was about to post earlier where is he going to land anyway? Germany sounds about right for a Turkish man.
>>
>>30634793
Interdasting, can I have a source on that?

>>30634804
It's an attempted coup, for all we know it could end up as a huge fuck up or it could be an actual success.
No one right now could possibly know and the men behind it aren't going to say "well we don't really control the country just yet", they will most certainly boast that they have everything under control.
>>
>>30634953
Dead loyalists already, trying to attack the military checkpoints.
One of them went down yelling allahu ackbar
>>
>>30635047
lol nope, he was denied landing permits in Istanbul and a US gov official stated that he is trying to seek asylum in Germany.

Plus tanks (armored vehicles in general, my source in Turkey isn't a military autists like us) are reportedly headed towards the PM's house. This last bit is unconfirmed and my source is just relaying me info that his friends have received.
>>
>>30635094
Turkish military helicopters have reportedly fired at unknown targets while flying over Ankara, plus footage has surfaced of civilians forcefully taking over a tank. Riot police confronting the army in Taksim square asking them to leave. shit is getting serious.
>>
>>30635094
Most of the tanks in the streets seem to be Pattons.
Also lots of BMPs.

Where are the leopards, I think? In kurd regions and in the south. Are those troops fucking up the kurds loyalists? They may very well be. Same for the ones at the syrian border.
>>
>>30635094>>30635127
ok, received a video update, if true there are tanks headed to the PM's house. Source sent me a four second video of an Altay tank heading down the street. Again, this is second hand info from his friend who lives in Ankara. I doubt he would lie to me but these are unverified reports by civilians
>>
Syrian Civil War Part II: Turkey Rising.
I wonder if this ends up being a civil war, how it'd go. Especially since it's a NATO country.
>>
>>30635157

>>
>>30635157
Shit gets even more serious, an F16 was reported to have fired on the Ankara police headquarters. Police have apparently taken Erdogans side as police have attempted to arrest pro coup soldiers, and it appears that more civilians area attempting to seize army vehicles

https://twitter.com/ragipsoylu/status/754074568784908288

Erdogan's plane landed recently in Istanbul, Coup plotters also have had their soldiers storm other media centers such as the CNN building and the Turkish Satellite TV center, which controls all tv connections inside Turkey. Clashes continue near Turkish parliament and near the Army headquarters in Ankara. Under increasing pressure, coup soldiers have retreated from Taksim square, just now fighters have flown over Taksim square, either in an attempt to bomb it or to buzz the place. The military helicopter that was supposedly shot down is still active around Ankara and any news that the coup have been suppressed appear to be fake as the coup plotters continue to make significant moves in both major cities.

On a lesser note, it looks like the ISF and PMF are in the process of closing the gap on both sides of the Tigris between Makhmur to the east and Qayyarah Airfield West to the west. We aint gonna get news on Manbij so soon, because the majority of the pro Kurds twitters posters that reports them are also busy posting about the Turkish attempt coup; posting pics of the civil populars beating and killing the surrendered coup soldiers and saying how this a human win(turkish killing turkish). Only news that I can find about Manbij is that the SDF/YPG destroyed four enemy vehicles, and that ISIS is reporting that US coalition aircraft bombed and destroyed a briedge on the Jarabulus road, north of Manbji.

>>30642798
It's more in the lines of taking precautions during the situation, I think; they are, after all, dealing with a coup attempt, so all precautions should be little. They also can use later the excuse that they did it for their own safety.

Read on twitter someone commenting that Erdogan was blaming the US/CIA/Pentagon for the coup attempt, but didnt find anything over that.

Anyway, its seems that the whole coup is already calming down, the current count is more or less the following:

- ~265 dead (161 civilians and police, and 104 coup supporters)
- ~1,400 injured
- ~3,000 soldiers arrested (which 490 are soldiers in Sirnak, deployed to fight PKK)
- ~2,700 Judges arrested (from which: 11 Supreme Court members, 4 members of Judges Committee, 140 Constitutional Court members and 48 members of the Council of State)

There is also that Turkish military heli that landed in Greece, and his 8 man crew is asking for asylum.

Given their easy access to the media IS would had caught wind of the news quickly. IS is reporting to be capitalizing on the situation with pushes from the north of Manbij and from Raqqa (although I've yet to see any progress on those pushes for now). Also, RT is unsurprisingly headlining on the fact that the Ä°ncirlik base houses US nukes. I like their warped priority.

The Sham Legion and Nusra Front are also making claims that they took back Kinsibba and Shillif Castle at Latakia governorate.

>>30650940
Sarifah has been under SAA control since IS was pushed back last year, and fairly out of the reach of non-IS rebels. The helicopter crash scenario sounds plausible, given that if it did carry explosives materials itself, it could had caused a chain reaction that spread throughout the complex.

It could be speculated that the helicopter had been damaged en route, but there has been barely any mention of the helicopter's condition before the crash either and there has been no claims of responsibility by the rebels. For all I know this could just be a case of poor pilot training or poor helicopter maintenance on the SAA's part.
>>
>>30650940

It was an error in handling the ammunitions stored within the complex. Hezbollah's fault, they've already come clean.

Bringing gear on a plane can be difficult due to laws etc. You can however buy most kinds of gear in Iraq before you enter Rojava. But dont bring too much, a patrol pack is more than enough. Bring an IFAK, tourniquet, multitool and flashlight, boots and some thermo underwear/clothing and a gore-tex jacket. If you want quality socks, underwear etc, bring that too. They will arm you. In Rojava, obtaining things/gear/clothes etc is very, very difficult.

All the reports on North Aleppo current situation are convergent, as the Pro SAA are reporting still holding the part of the Castillo road that they took, while the Rebels are claiming that they retook the majoraty of what they lost on the region, be as may be, clashes are still ongoing. Clashes also ongoing in the Khaldiyah district, with the SAA still trying to advance.

In Latakia, Rebels took the Ayn Ghazal village, and posted photos proving that they retook Kinsaba, as well claiming the capture of Ein Qantara, Tal Touban, Shalaf, Shir Qubou and Hamrat.

Video of Rebels in Ayn Ghazal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFbcgyrPyIc

More to the north in Aleppo, ISIS is shelling, with rockets, Mare since early this morning, a assault could be expected.

In the Israeli and Syrian border region of the Golan heights, two Patriot missiles fired from Tzfat intercepted a drone coming from Syria. Also, reports that 2 IDF soldiers were killed and 3 were wounded by a grenade blast near army outpost on Mount Hermon.

Pic is the explosion in Safira.

It's a very ironic, but not unexpected, as when you work with explosives for too much time it is expected that will be part of your obituary. What really kills me, is thinking that this happend in a cartoon like chain reaction accident, where a chopper full of explosives have fallen right into the explosives factory.

Last minute news from Syria; ISIS is claiming more 64 YPG fighters killed in clashes with "Commando Units" in east Of the Faruq Dam, after those said commandos had infiltrated in some villages.

Also, here's a photo of the arrested Generals accused of leading the failed coup in Turkey.

The coup had failed, but there are still many reports of gun fights and explosions, with resistant military rebels forces. However many they are, its very difficult to imagine that those remaining Rebels will likely surrender without a fight, now that is becoming almost certain that all the participants of the failed coup will get the death sentence.
>>
>>30655953
they deserve death for the sheer incompetence of this coup.
I still cant get my head around the idea, that they thought letting Erdogan room freely around, making television appeals or just letting him fly into the capital unoppsed was a bright plan. Especially with their small numbers and most of the army and command structure being loyal, their only chance would have been to get Erdogan as fast as possible. And his whereabouts were known, he was staying in a hotel, so not even particularly heavily protected.

I just cant imagine how they thought that whole fiasco would play out.
>>
>>30655794
>the Mayor of Ankara seems to be saying that the Turkish pilot who shot down the Russian Su-24 last year in Syria was part of coup and has been killed.

So, from 650k military personal just 100 got killed during the coup, and at the time when Erdogan tries desparately to mend ties with russia the guy who shot down the russian jet just happens to be among them.
I'm sure its just a coincidence.

Ha ha, missed most of the weekend. Might as well start off where i left off.

As i went to catch up on what i missed apparently IS is still fighting in eastern Hama near where i believe is a large stockpile of IS men and weapons spread out in hidden bases near the area.
I can't tell yet if IS is advancing but being they started this attack late Friday and there is still reported fighting late Sunday they are serious about it. If it was just a raid on checkpoints they would have already left.

If a large group of military personnel failed in the coup no doubt some are still at large and still serious about overthrowing the government.

At this point they should give up any large battles and go full "PKK" on Erdogan. I am sure the real PKK wouldn't mind.

This.
I expected all major opposition players to throw all their marbles now because later they will slowly but surely get purged by erdogan who will have pretty much unlimited support, at least for a while, its now or never.

In reality, it was already confirmed for some time that the Rebels retook Kinsaba, they posted photos of the city early today. Now, the latest reports on the matter are that the SAA is trying to retake it, with ongoing clashes.

Is being difficult to trace what's the real situation in Turkey right now, with many news sources closed down and the majority of what we receive being from pro government sources; there reports right now of 3 undentified choppers over Istanbul. Pro government news draw a scenario where almost all the situation is back to normal, with a few rebel militaries still at large, fighting more to survive than other thing. If the there are still many pro coup forces fighting over the country, then, we got a "silent civil war"; with the factions fighting each other but without news on it and we without the knowledge that it is happening.

The SAA advanced in the Khalediyya region of Aleppo on of a number of fronts toward the terrorists in Duwar al-Liramun. As the army advanced from the north toward the Beni Thyda factions. The plans of SAA operations for the Battle of Aleppo call for [taking the area's wealth] while exerting control over new strategic areas. [Interview]: "The SAA, the al-Radifi forces, and friends: a distinguished success has been achieved in all directions in Aleppo and its countryside. The Army, the al-Radifi forces, and very vaunted friendly forces won against militants because they are [punks]; they were killed [?] and their fortresses were defeated; all types of missiles, gas bombs, various mortars, and various ammo belts. The army pushed toward the Khalediyyah and Liramun fronts. The strategy [?] and form of the attacks were quick and surprising; took a wide swathe of the region.

It's a bit imperfect, I'm sorry.

There are some reports that I can't say if they are trustworthy that ISIS launched some big assaults against SDF/YPG held Ayn Issa and the Tishrin Dam.

In Tunis, there are talks aiming to form a "unified Libyan army under the command of the presidential council":

The pic is some ISIS fighter with a captured SAA tank, as they claim another SAA attack repelled near Palmyra.
