So Troy is selling their XM177E2 clone true to spec.
This means it has a 12.5 inch barrel, and a 1/12 twist in their rifling.
Assuming you use 55gr 193, what kind of impact would they have in combat?
>tearing through limbs Nam folk lore originated with this specification
Is this true?
>>
it should destablize and fragment the second it hits anything. stuff like brush would stop it

>supporting troy in any capacity

How about no

So completely shit at barriers, but devastating to anything soft ?
>>
>>30611040
Well sure, but having your projectiles keyholing and disintegrating is still a massive flaw.
>>
>>30611005
m193 is good to fragment out to ~50 yards.

>>30611040
It is apparently dogshit against intermediate barriers yes.

How is this a flaw? It's accurate until it hits something, at which point it should destroy whatever fucking thing it hits safe for a barrier to which 5.56 is naturally shit through anyways.
The Nam operators loved them apparently because it tore the VC up.

What did Troy do wrong?

>>30611005
>believing bullshit

There is nothing appealing about a 1 in 12" twist rate and a lower rotational velocity most definitely does not improve tissue damage.
>>
>>30612047
They hired Lon Horiuchi's spotter.

Pretty sure the shit about 1/12 twist affecting terminal ballistics has actually been studied by the army and largely debunked but I can't find it anymore.
>>
>>30612047
lower rotational velocity ensures the bullet keyholes while disintegrating since it was barely stable to begin with
>>
Wait so are you guys telling me that if I intentionally used under stabilized rounds, they would do more damage to soft targets within effective range?

The troy gun is painted gray, watch this for a new perspective on 55 grain

Al spitzer bullets tend to keyhole hitting soft media- the wight of the bullet is largely to the rear. When the bullet turns sideways it can tend to break at the cannelure- so now you've got two wound tracks.

My understanding is some of the ammo produced by the South Africans in the 70's had a similar issue due to a steel penetrator in front of a lead core.
>>
>>30612992
yo look up Peter Hathaway Cspstick's adventures in Ethiopia. fuckers killed a bull elephant with a 12 Guage loaded with bird shot and a 270 rifle loaded with reversed soft points (removed from the casing WITH THEIR TEETH AS THE ELEPHANT WAS BLUFFING THEM)
>>
>>30611112
Because fragging foliage sucks dick when you're trying to kill people. Some 30-06 was cooked up that was drag after 2 to 4 inches of penetration and that's not a good thing
>>
>>30615055
I remember reading about some Brit (eventually) taking down an elephant with a .303

It was a rough read
>>

Last Horizons
hunthing, fishing, and shooting on 5 continents.

>>
>>30615279
this story involves them crashing their jeep in the remote Ethiopian bush in the early 70s. with no gear besides a canteen or two, a can of beer, a few cigs, and what was loaded in the two guns, they tracked back to their base camp. Chapstick was later berated by his New York based editor for getting the story in late due to the week he spent hiking back to the camp
>>
>>30615279
Karamojo Bell, the man who almost single handedly drove elephants extinct, mostly used 7x57 mauser FMJ. If you've got enough penetration to reach the brain, you don't need expansion. Just shoot them in the brain.
>>
>>30615349
That sounds rad

>>30615409
Well aware of W.D.M Bell's exploits. The poor bastard I'm talking about was some officer that had to put down a rogue elephant in either Africa or India. By the end of it, it was more of a mercy kill than trying to stop a threat
>>
>>30612664
later A2 grip
A2 flash hider
nigga, what are you doing?
>>
>>30611005
From a 20" barrel, where you are getting the 3200 fps that M193 was designed for, yes. Yawing and fragmentation out to about 150 yards.

12.5" barrel? KEK, no. It's a meme rifle.
