Looking into moving from Based Arizona because I think I'm finally done with this triple digit heat.

I liked the South when I was stationed there. I'm looking for information, both gun related and not about what's good around the South.

>gun culture
>gun laws
>probability of crime
>cheap land for which to shoot on
>availability of jobs and manufacturing type industries (machinist)

Also, no Texas

Let's see it lads!

Mississippi is nice in places.

The Delta is a shooters paradise with miles upon miles of flatland fields that a farmer could be coerced into letting you shoot on his property after the harvest or even pest control for the wild hogs.

I lived in Tupelo for most of my life and it's not terrible. Small for sure compared to bigger cities but some people prefer it that way.

Stay away from Jackson. Stay far away. I live in Vicksburg and it's getting bad in places here too, but not anywhere close to Jackson.

We also have constitutional concealed carry and open carry.
>>
>>30597768
What's so bad about it?

Outside of Tulsa and OKC metros, it's mostly just a lot of empty nothingness.

As someone who grew up in NC, then moved to NM, then back to NC, the South is worse all day erryday. Humidity will suffocate you.

Wouldn't live anywhere else though, I'd suggest NC OP, just stay away from Asheville, Charlotte, and Gastonia. Find you somewhere near Boone to live, up in the Appalachia's. Boone is a little douchey too but it's a college town.

Boy are you in for a surprise, anon. Georgia anon here, lived in Flagstaff for two years. If heat is the reason you're moving, these are not the states you are looking for.

88 degrees F/49% (this is pretty low, by the way)
>>

Wouldn't mind Flagstaff, problem is there aren't many jobs up that way for Machining. Plus I'm getting away from a life time of bad decisions as well.... Fresh start as it were.
>>
Don't do it.

You're moving from a dry heat to a humid heat. It means the humidity, combined with the high heat, prevents you from sweating.

If you're not adapted to the high heat index, you're screwed.

Come up to the mountains, OP. I live in East Tennessee. It's God's country.

- Significantly lower heat/humidity (moved here from Atlanta and originally from SC).

- Low cost of living and cheap, hilly land

- There is a Fortune 500 chemical company here that hires machinists

- Gun friendly culture. I see Glock stickers, etc., everywhere.

I'd be happy to tell you more
>>
>>30597782
>The Delta is a shooters paradise with miles upon miles of flatland fields that a farmer could be coerced into letting you shoot on his property after the harvest or even pest control for the wild hogs.

There's not much in the way of jobs or money in the Delta.

>I lived in Tupelo for most of my life and it's not terrible.

North MS is great.
>>
>>30597878
>prevents you from sweating.
Oh, no, you still sweat like a motherfucker. I was working outside this last weekend replacing facia board on my house. 90+ degrees, 65+% humidity. If I stood in one place for more than 30 seconds, I leave a swimming pool behind. And, no, I am not a ham planet. No, the thing is the sweat doesn't evaporate. So all you get is soaking wet with none of the cooling of the evaporating sweat, making it feel even more muggy and "close". It can get pretty fucking miserable.

>>30597865
>jobs up that way for Machining
I do a lot of side work in welding and forging (four or five hand forged wrought iron railing jobs per year and other miscellaneous stuff). I do it year round. Let me tell you man, you put those leathers on in a non-air conditioned shop for welding and you better set a timer to remind yourself to stop, take the leathers off for 5 minutes and drink a half gallon of water. Every 30 minutes. Then you have to keep multiple pairs of welding gloves around because once they're completely soaked through with sweat you can start getting periodically zapped through the ground path on your Mig/Tig welder if you're not careful. Shit is not fun in the summer.

Winter work is glorious, though.
>>
>>30597946
Hell, tell ME more, I live in SC and was looking for somewhere to move.
>>
>>30597965

Dri-Fit undershirts, socks and underwear should be standard practice in the South. It's too hot to wear much else besides athletic gear.
>>
>>30597950
Yeah that's the downside of the Delta. It's the "old south" part of MS.

North MS has plenty of job opportunities. They also have a nice gun club in Guntown. Some other small ranges around the Golden Triangle but they're pretty small.
>>
>>30597998

Idk, I moved here for a job after graduation and just like the area. I live in Johnson City. The biggest downside is that it's not close to any big cities (with Knoxville coming in at 2h and Charlotte at 3), but on /k/ this might even be considered a plus.

Really good hiking and outdoor stuff, including two fairly large lakes in the area. You've got part of the AT on the TN/NC border, and a bunch of nice mountains at 6000'+ to summit.

I'm from the hot south so I hate bitterly cold winters, but I gotta say that I like the slightly more moderate climate, and like to get that 4-5 inches of snow every so often. Humidity is definitely lower. Haven't been here in autumn yet but I'm sure it'll be beautiful.

JC itself is cool since it's a college town, and there's actually some decent ..talent in the area. There's good food and beer (plus there's Asheville only one hour away for that kind of stuff too).

Cost of living is overall pretty low - too lazy to look up statistics, but if you're really curious about that, do some research. No state income tax too, but there is a state tax on capital gains.

Anyway, I'm rambling pretty hard right now -- just thinking of things as they come to mind so there's not much formatting going on, but hopefully this tells you a little about the area. glad to answer any questions, although it might not be until 3+ hours from now.

Seconding East TN. Hills, woods, lakes and beauty abound. Super gun friendly state. Cleo is required by law to sign your paperwork for an nfa item within a couple weeks if they can't find a legal reason to deny you. Knoxville is a growing city/suburban sprawl. It's kind of a boring town but decent economy with a little of everything present.

Fishing, one of the most based states for guns laws. Can OC everywhere it actually matters unlike what spergs in other states try to do with their protests, good fishing, blacks and mexicans can be tolerable depending on where you go. Also we're voting on getting that dank kush
>>
>>30598067
>Dri-Fit undershirts, socks and underwear
You go and weld in a dri-fit shirt, you're going to find it melted to your torso in several places inside 15 minutes.

There are times when I just wear a cotton shirt and welding jacket sleeves for work, but most of the time you need at least the apron too. Also, anyone who wears shorts and sneakers in a welding/forge shop deserves the burns, cuts, etc they'll pick up. Drop hot iron on your foot and watch it melt your sneaker to your foot. No fucking bueno.

Duh, it's Florida.

It's ironic because fruit in Florida is quite vulnerable to the cold. And it can get cold in Florida enough to damage its crops.

I also live in East TN and can vouch for it. Mountains are superior to any other biome in the states. Fuck the beach. Lots of woods to oper8 in, very positive gun culture, very low amount of minorities, cheap living expenses, many big name companies like TVA, ALCOA, Berretta, and Barret all make their home in this state. Lived here for all 26 years of my life, and my father before me as well, who is 60 rn. Never had any desire to move. The weather does get kinda hot in the Summer (Pushing the lower 90s very frequently these past few weeks) but not nearly as bad as the rest of the South in the other seasons. One cool thing about mountains is that you can sometimes see over a thunderstorm if you're in the right position. It's cool as fuck. SE GA here.

The gun culture is pretty good. There's a decent mix of fudds, tacticool shitters, niggers with problem solvers and normal gun owners.

Only downside to GA is that you need a weapon license to open carry as well as concealed carry. It's also not guaranteed in the state constitution.

Crime, like most places, is dependent on where you live. I won't bullshit you though, it has been on the rise steadily, with a spike in homicides recently.

Plenty of cheap land if you go out a little from Savannah.

I'm not really sure what machinists do, but Savannah is a pretty big logistics hub thanks to the port. You could probably find work around that area.

The humidity is off the charts man. I guarantee you'll miss the dry heat after having swamp ass any time you go outside.

It's beautiful, there's a ton of watersports related shit to do out on the various intercostal waterways, winter, fall and spring are all nice, Tybee is 35 minutes from most of the city, all the historical shit around town is awesome and SCAD provides enough new cultural turnover to keep the music and art scenes interesting.

On the downside, you've got mosquitoes and gnats, fucking old people EVERYWHERE, downtown and midtown can be a little culturally enriched in areas, the squares can make getting across downtown a chore depending on where you need to commute and for those three weeks of summer when it's 112 degrees and 80% humidity, you really need to just be out at Tybee in the water all day or kill yourself.

But other than that, yeah, Mississippi is nice in some places. From what I've heard, it's easier to buy a lot of land than other places, tons of people stay to themselves (where I live at) and are friendly too. Gotcha. I'm actually moving out to Oxford at the end of this month to attend law school at Ole Miss.

Are you familiar with how the constitutional carry laws work? I was reading a concealed carry permit application and it said that I needed to be a resident for at least a year before I could get one. Do you know if this also applies for the state constitutional carry? I can't find any information anywhere on the subject, and I don't want to get fucked for making a mistake made due to insufficient evidence being available to make an accurate determination of the law.

I come from a land full of gun grabbers, so I'm extremely excited to finally have fucking rights that I can exercise. How long does law school usually last? 2-3years? Let's see...

Page five of
>http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/mississippi.pdf
and
>http://www.dps.state.ms.us/firearms/firearms-permit-unit/firearms-permits-faqs/
says
>MISSISSIPPI DOES NOT HAVE NON-RESIDENT PERMITS. Mississippi Law 45-9-101 (2) (a) states “The Department of Public Safety shall issue a license if the applicant: is a resident of the state and has been a resident for twelve (12) months or longer immediately preceding the filing of the application”.

But you're going to law school so you should be over 21 (unless you're a genius) so you could probably get the residency requirement waived. Unfortunately, you come from Commiefornia and Mississippi doesn't honor licenses from there. I don't see much more. Hopefully some of these other fat motherfuckers could help out if they're not too busy eating mayonnaise out the jar.
>>
>>30602729
3 years of law school.

And my intention would be to get a Mississippi DL and establish my residency because I have zero intention of returning to Commiefornistan. So perhaps they'll be less shitty and waive the 1 year residency requirement. I guess I'll ask the local sheriff what the deal is when I arrive and after I get my new DL.
>>
>>30602729
>>30602798
But worst case scenario, I'll just apply for an Arizona non-resident permit or something that has non-residency reciprocity in Mississippi.

Louisiana here, here's what's up in the Southeast region:

>gun culture
Wildly varies, it's 50/50 fudd and tactifag. You might see an average gun owner or collector but it's rare. It's either a fudd with his trusty bolt gun or a kid new to guns with a tacpco SKS or fagpul AR.

>gun laws
Really chillax, open carry is available right off the get go and the CCL is eh. It's not the best CCL applicaiton but it's not the worst. When I went to college we were also allowed to keep firearms stored in our cars on campus. No carry allowed on campus though, which made no sense.

>probability of crime
Avoid BR, NOLA, the North Shore, and Livingston parish really. Anywhere that has poor whites and blacks has high chances of crime. BR has gotten worse and the traffic there sucks chode. NOLA is hip and cool and all but the darkies really put a damper on the fun with their crime shennagians, and that 65% black population ain't helping that citys cause.

>cheap land for which to shoot on
Most of the cheap land to shoot on and own is up north near Shreveport or Alexandria. Majority of the shit down here is already owned by farmers or private enterprises. You're best off shooting at Honey Island and risk getting snatched by the swamp monster.

>availability of jobs and manufacturing type industries
BR has a few jobs if I recall and we have BAE systems in Slidell who does DoD shit. I've seen guys get good jobs at some other businesses but BR and Slidell are ones that stand out in my memory.

Side note, you're moving from dry heat to wet heat. Also our bugs will eat you alive.

Different Anon, but still mississippian, have been to oxford several times. Ole Miss territory is literally amazing, nice architecture, old antebellum homes EVERYWHERE. Good mix of forest/city. The people there are why MS has a hospitality reputation.

>hunt/shoot
>is Mississippi big on this
Holy shit anon, if there's one thing sippifags do the most, it's hunting. Shooting mostly gets done on private property since everyone and their fucking brother owns a deer camp or has a range built in. But damn, do we hunt. It's weirder for you to not have shot a gun by 15 than to have.

Stay away from Jackson though. The closest you should come is Richland/Madison, because there's some pretty "cool" stuff in those cities.

Oxford life revolves around Ole Miss, weekend traffic on a gameday is arguably worse than commuting in Atlanta. Bars are always filled with topgrade southern sloots and you're stereotypical chads.

CC is kinda weird. I'd say 30% of any MS cops will ask a white person for their permit. So I'd advise just carrying it anyways until you get it, unless you care. But yeah I think it's a year.

Do you need to have the 1 year of residency in order to constitutionally carry in Mississippi? I intend to get my DL and shit right when I get in state so I can shred my Commiefornia DL and bask in a land of freedom while I simultaneously switch from a dry 100+ weather to humid as fuck 80-90 degree weather. That's pretty much the only part I'm not looking forward to, but I'll adapt eventually.

Man I am so fucking pumped to get out and hunt. Finding good, reliable hunting people (especially people in their mid-to-late 20's) out in Cuckifornia is nearly impossible.

Also, any good outdoor shooting ranges that venture out beyond 100 yards? Or is that still mostly just done on people's private land?

And finally, have you ever gone to/shopped at Mississippi Auto Arms? They get good reviews, but obviously someone with personal knowledge about the gun stores in the area would be nice.

Come on down to Georgia! In between being from Dunwoody, then living in Statesboro. Also currently have a place in downtown Atlanta and on lake jackson. May I say avoid Atlanta at all cost. Go for the Savannah area. So much cheap land. Also if your a machinist, daniel defense is near by. Just whatever you do stay out of the dark zones :Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, and macon. If you stay out of all those cities and their metro areas it is the most gun friendly state. You can open carry everywhere and no one will look twice. I would say savannah is pretty gun friendly as long as you don't bump into a SJW SCAD student.

I'm not just talking low-income white trash, either. One was a small business owner, another one of the larger new-build GCs in the area and yet another was joking about how he'd find ways to kick back "nigger" loan applications at the bank branch he was managing.

Didn't run across a single one in southern Ohio or Indiana. Don't know what it is about Kentucky.

Most of the folks that regularly come out to my farm to shoot are SCAD students. I think you'd be surprised how many of them get down to Savannah from up north/out west and get into hunting or just shooting. There are definitely a few SJWs running around, but don't mistake an artist with an anti-war or even liberal artistic theme as an automatic SJW. Whole lot of those folks come out and shoot and then get fucked up on moonshine.

Kentuckybro checking in and vouching for Lexington. Can confirm Lexington is not that bad. Maybe a little liberal by most tastes, but I came from LA area of Ca, and it was a pretty good transition.

Became a CC instructor out here because the program is honeslty very good. Teaches real world stuff that will get you thrown in jail. Doesn't pull punches. Ky has a Concealed Carry Deadly Weapon permit, which allows you to carry basically any weapon banned from conceal carry, instead of just pistols. So where other states ban concealed carry of guns, some knives, ninja stuff, clubs/saps, etc, Kentucky bans them too, but if you get the permit, you are allowed to carry all the banned stuff. Wanna carry a Microtech OTF auto knife? Conceal nunchucks or ninja death stars (actually called that, check KRS 500.080(4))? Sure, why not?

OC is legal at the state level and gun rights are protected by a state preemption law which prevents localities from making laws that abridge anything firearm-related. Signs don't carry the weight of law, and the worst you can get if you get "made" carrying on private property where they don't want you to carry is asked to leave and a tresspassing charge if you don't. You can't even get charged for carrying while not actively carrying your permit. It's like a $5 fine. Ky is also considering constitutional carry while maintaining the permit process for official reciprocity with other states.

cont...
>>
>>30614371
Not sure about racism here in Lexington because this has been literally the only place I've lived where blacks smile warmly at you and hold the door for you at the gas station. There's still a share of trash, but trash is trash irrespective of color. From the way I've heard it described by folks in Louisville and my fellow /k/entuckians in this thread, it seems to be isolated to Lexington. Which is alright, I guess. I know that if you get outside Lexington things can go downhill pretty quickly, meth-wise, but that's most of appalachia anyways. Lots of boom and bust towns full of whites that didn't leave on the "bust" because uncle sugar was happy to pay for them to stay dirt poor. Ky has a bad welfare problem, and it's mostly white. But they're country folk and can probably fend for themselves if the EBT system goes down.

Gun culture out here is great. There are more bubbas and fudds than shooters, but it's not that bad. It's just weird to hear people talking about guns without getting HR called on them or fired. It's just normal here.

Lots of manufacturing jobs out here, Toyota is in a hiring bump right now because most of the folks that started when the factory opened 30 years ago are retiring. It's great work from what I hear, but a little menial. Not that they don't have jobs for more complicated stuff, there's just fewer.

Guess I can't speak for the rest of KY for much, but gun-wise it's awesome.

Only have one 30-round magazine for my Hi-Power and that was a lemon someone sold to me at a gunshow. Probably for a Beretta 92.

Not mine, but my brother's. Here's your "extendo".

10/10 post. I've never lived in Lexington but I've been there many times since I live in between Berea and Richmond and this pretty accurately reflects what my experiences with Lexington and the state have been.

As far as the racism point goes, I do know redneck kids who I knew in high school who just hated all black people, but they were a minority even in redneck circles and were basically the socially retarded outcasts of the redneck circle. Most rednecks I know are like anyone else, and treat black people on a case by case basis just like they do other races. Also agree that black people seem to be just as friendly as white people here, with a minor exception on young black dudes. Most of them are still from the country and carry country values, some of the younger black generation has the prevalent thug culture though. Generally though, you can tell if a black guy here is a thug just like you can tell if a white dude is one. Race and all the cultural and racial issues with it are pretty simple here.

Just as much meth in appalachia here as there is in other parts. That said, you can tell which areas have a problem with it and which ones do not.

Also have an uncle who has been at the Toyota plant in Georgetown for at least a decade, he holds a fairly decent position there. They make you work a whole lot of hours, but the money is good and as long as you aren't a complete and total fuck up, you'll get hired. Job isn't that hard, pay and benefits are really nice. There are a lot of hours but it isn't 7 days a week like some places are here, Hitachi being the biggest offender. And if you can't get on at Toyota, guarantee you that Hitachi will take you. They don't turn away anyone really. That said, that job pays good money but it's a 7 day a week affair. Good short term but fucking everyone burns out long term, and if you don't burn out, they'll fuck you out of retirement if they get the opportunity.

>tfw my friend caught pnemonia at Ft Sill in basic

He ended up getting chaptered out because he was a dumbass that didn't go to the doctor when he first got sick and ended up letting it get so bad he thought about killing himself. But he went to see the doctors and told them that bit, next thing he knows he's getting booted out.

The north shore is great and has very little crime. I don't know what you are thinking of. It's the rich white area.
>>

It's a paved road and then gravel. Floods rarely and if your just using the range you don't need a permit anymore. Stupid RO's but not bad.

South east Louisiana here. Great except for land.
Great gun culture, nearly everyone hunts. No bad gun laws at all. Can carry in car, etc. No constitutional CC though.

Low crime except for NOLA east.

Land isn't too bad but it won't be close to a job. Good thing is that as long as you own 5acres you can shoot as much as you want no matter where it is, even in city limits.

Ship building is fucking huge, and oil.

Plus the lake is right there which leads to Cyprus swamps and a ton of other outdoors activities including offshore fishing.

>These cucks are libtards who are afraid of anything that goes bang.
C'mon now. How many medium-sized cities give so few fucks that they'll give you a "rodent permit" to fire 410 (7 1/2 shot or smaller) or .22 shot shells within city limits on your property? And give you these on the spot for 10 bucks?

You can blow a squirrel out of your tree or a rat out of your basement with a .410 right on Washington street if that's where your property is.

If you hate the heat here, you will grow to despise the heat there.
Lived in GA, and the only reason I did not hate it is because I was too young to know any better. I believe the mosquitoes are the sole reason the N refused to include the S in trade route formation.

Lived in a medium sized city in Alabama for 22 years.
>gun culture
Guns are pretty common, no one is scared of guns like they are in Cali, NY, etc.
>gun laws
Open carry
>probability of crime
Population is about 50% black, but they stay mostly in their self-segregated ghettos. White neighborhoods are safe.
>Cheap land to shoot on
20 miles outside of the city you can get a comfy house and enough land to where your property is separated by woods from your neighbors
>availability of jobs and manufacturing
There's always construction, welding, etc.
>>
>>30597535
Really though, there is nowhere near the supply of cheap land in the south as there are in the southwest or midwest.
