questions that don't deserve their own post

Q: is epipen the same kind of adrinalin that is used in first aid? what can it be used for besides allergic reactions? heart attack? give someone the ability to fight through a broken leg in a life or death situation? tactical medics, thoughts.
>>
>tactical medics

I've tactically applied a bandaid once.

not the person youre replying to, but i was at the range and i got hurted by my ak. i was bleeding out for 2 more hours at the range and the ride home and then i put a bandaid brand bandaid on the cut that already clotted and everything.

I work for a highway department and found a dozen epipens in a household cleanout. I just want to stick someone now lol. Maybe I can use one as an arrowhead?
>>
>>30596615
How the hell does that happen? Did they use the wrong end?
>>
>>30596714
looks like it
also those needles are pretty tough since they're made to punch through clothing.
>>
>>30596493
Pretty much nothings going to let you fight through a broken leg.
EPI pens basically just bring your blood pressure up and help for allergic reactions.
I was pretty sure you needed a prescription though.
If you have a busted leg splint that. Fighting through a broken leg should be the least of your worries, you should really be more concerned about fatal bleeds and stabilizing your patients.

Also, what is a good CCW for my wife? I recommended to her a sig P239, or a compact 1911.
>>
>>30596638
the girl i guess, i already have a bachelors degree in economic though.
>>
>>30596714
Yeah, its easy to use the wrong end if you're a window licker.
Sometimes people use it thinking its the button that deploys the needle. Thats why its important to read the instructions first.

>>30596745
I should also add to my comment, when you break a bone your body releases enough adrenalin, it hurts more hours after the incident. Your best bet for breaking your femur is to get hospitalization as soon as possible. You lose a lot of blood from breaking bones.
>>
>>30596493
Its going to deliver epinephrine in a 1:1000 mix intra muscularly. For hear attacks u need to give a 1:10000 mixture straight into their bloodstream.

The thig to remember er with the the epiphany is that if u cut them up there are actually four does esf of epic inside and it only delivers one of them. If you are exceedingly desperate and have controlled someone's bleeding but heir on shock then I suppose you could hit them a couple times with the epitome pen to get some alpha adrenergic effects from it instead of just he beta effects to raise there blood pressure

I'm thinking about getting more into collecting old/antique firearms.

Not necessarily milsurps.

What is the best way to verify whether a rifle is safe to shoot modern smokeless powder loads or if a shotgun will not be destroyed by steel pellets?
>>
>>30596778
Depending on protocols, yes, 1:10k IV 1mg of Epi while working a code.

Single dose of an epi-pen is 0.3mg. The max one should ever give is 1.2mg. Also, per site, you should only inject 0.5cc IM Max

OPs idea of running around with stim-paks and adrenals comes from too many sci-fi films and video games.
>>
>>30596801
No, It's a trauma alert situation. If they're splinted, TQ'ed, and the PT is given a fluid challenge, they have pretty goddamn good odds of surviving.
>>

>>30596835
>safe to shoot modern smokeless powder loads
pre 1880 it isn't, don't shoot steel in old shotguns, don't shoot smokeless in anything damascus or welded or if you thing you shouldn't.

that date is a little arbitrary, earlier designs were still being made after that, but you can shoot modern stuff in pre 1898 nuggets, maybe gew88s, a couple others. research first.

Sounds like you know your stuff. is there a book you recommend to learn EMT. learn how to treat major wounds and respond to trama
>>
>>30596973
Honestly? Sign up for an emt course, work private ems, get into paramedic school and watch it swallow all your life and free time for the next 12 months. If you survive, suppressor scribe to JEMS and read their monthly front to back while continuing to work ems of the weekends at midnight minimum

>tfw when over halfway thru medic school where were down to 18 of the 30 starting students and no matter how well you do you feel like you could be next
>tfw you work 80 hours per week between school, clinicals and your actual job

BTW you won't learn he epicenter trick in medice school. There are a shitload of improvisations you learn to do in the field, such as bp cuffs to squeeze iv bags, ked boardo for pelvis fractures (only time you'll probably use them). Even then it's still a lot of improv. I've never used a pre-made splint, I've only ever cut slings from bedsheets. The best way to use a chests ealing is to throw it out and use the wrapper it came in instead. To make matters worse national standard lag behind reality ie capnography or the back boards are good meme. Lastly. These are all tools. The real skill is being able to tell a medical problem from simply looking at someone. I know when someone has a throat problem by their posture, when their heart is bad by looking at their feet. Lung problems by looking at fingertips etc
>>
>>30596493

No for trauma there's a few simple things to teach. First of all you do not save save trauma victims, only trauma surgeons do

But there are a lot of things you can do.
The proper order of thingS is bleeding airway breathing circulation. So if you run up to someone hurt and you see spurting blood, IMMEDIATELY STOP IT. This can be as simple as covering it with your hand. Of course this assumes you have a partner to come to your aid with a dressing or tourniquet ie anything to replace your hand if not do your best.
Don't use belts as tourniqets, use fabric, ie short or bedsheets in a strip about 3 to four inches wide at minimum and twist it tight using a stick or pemcil. If u have a purpose built tourniquet use that.

Thenot stabilize the head with your hands. If there just you theneed don't move the head. If he hasn't responded check if he responds to pain and open his airway to see of he breaths if he hasn't already. Then check a pulse on his neck. For us, we would check bp and stuff like that, but you can't and I doubt you'll have a partner with a backboard. This is he part where you call for EMS and then return to stabilizing the head

Remember, the most important thing you can do do is stop bleeding and stabilize the head while keeping the airway patent. Stop the bleeding stop the bleeding stop the bleeding.

HOWEVER if he has no pulse, he's fucking dead. Some places have you work cpr on trauma arrests but it never works. It's more of a liability thing. If someone trauma arrests end route, or lyrics some very complicated series of events leaf to them being resucitated. But if you yourselves find someone with no pulse in a puddle of blood, they're fucking dead.

I'm a surgery resident and I have life-threatening food allergies so I carry an EpiPen (in a fanny pack if I'm wearing scrubs... don't fucking laugh at me!)

I've had to stick myself a few times, it wears off after 10-15 minutes, you want EMS there right after you stick yourself or you'll just die anyway if your throat closes up.

Trust me there is nothing scarier than finding out you have a previously unknown food allergy w/ an anaphylactic rxn. I'd rather get shot in the leg than have it happen again.

But uh.. OP it is useless for you or anyone else unless you're allergic to bees when SHTF.

How does one into suppressors? What type of funs can accept suppressors? Do tilting barrel guns like all the 45 handguns have any issue with the extra mass when pivoting? I found a website awhile ago that was a 'tactical' style medic site. It had a bunch of medical supplies and 'tactical' gear for sale, but it also had a GREAT video how to selection.

The videos had real injuries and people in them (or atleast so realistic that I was grossed right the fuck out).

I saw one about flail chest and it looked very real.

I was wondering if anyone has the name of that site? I lost that bookmark somehow and I've been looking ever since.

if you've ever had a panic attack, thats exactly how you will feel. Maybe if you are running away for your life but you are out of energy, besides that i can't see a reason anybody would ever use it other than that. (besides allergy i guess) Also i think they are very expensive. If you are seriously considering ever having to use one for tactical situation maybe you should use one first to see how much of a mistake it is.

Wait, what? There's 4 doses inside? I was given pic related last year. After a lifetime of random accidental mild peanut allergy reactions, I finally had one bad enough to send me to the ER, where I was prescribed these (~$260 WITH insurance, close to $600 without, btw)

Are you telling me if after the initial jab, where the needle deploys, my throat is still swelling shut, that I can stab again and more comes out? How does that work?

I don't recall anything about that in the instructions that came with it, though I fully understand it's important to hit a muscle, not a vein, as that can kill you, which makes me wonder about how >>30596615 faired

epipen is only helpful in anaphylaxis and will not help for cardiac arrest

>>30596778

as important as the concentration and route is the dose. an adult epipen is 0.3mg IM while a single dose of epi for cardiac arrest is 1mg IV. I'm sure you know this, just including it for others reading.

Go to a store that sells suppressors and they walk you through the very very very very long and pain in the ass process of submitting fingertips an i.d. and passport photo.
All guns that have a threaded barrel can accept suppressors
Not a problem at all if i understand what you're saying, the weight of the suppressor won't effect non stationary barrels.
You gotta go to a store that sells them to acquire them and the legal process is long.
Muzzle devices and threaded barrels are not considered nfa items that you need a tax stamp for. You need a $200 tax stamp for each suppressor you own and the batfe has to accept your application and send you the stamp, usually about 6 months later, then you go to the store you purchased the suppressor and they let you take it home.
>>
>>30601770
in south carolina "firearm" does not exclude black powder guns so you can't have one legally. *unless you were convicted of a non-violent felony, then maybe you can have one.

otherwise try to get it expunged, or make friends with a hasguns in case the happening happens

I was in shitty county jail with a former marine who went to iraq at the beginning in 03, was at Fallujah the first time, batshit crazy... ANYWAY he told me that they couldn't get weed easily over there so they'd break open epipens, drain the liquid onto foil, let it dry, then smoke it off "chasing the dragon" style. Try at your own risk. He also told me about getting a care package from a buddy with a qtr of mushrooms in a jar of peanut butter. Long story short, started peaking right before a rocket attack. Cool thanks anon. Just a few more qqs.
Is it really 6months though? Is this for each suppressor? Are most suppressors able to be used on multiple guns of similar caliber? Would it be a viable idea to just purchase a few suppressors for a few common calibers and throw them between the guns?
>>
>>30603463

No, its not an AR it has the full toprail and no collapsible stock/tube
>>
>>30603706
Yeah or more.
Yes, each suppressor or aow the wait time is around 6 months with a $200 tax stamp plus the cost of the suppressor.
They are interchangeable from gun to gun provided that you've got the same thread on each gun, you can shoot smaller calibers out of larger suppressors, if you have a 9mm, you can use a suppressor meant for a 45, they aren't as effective but still make a difference, i feel i should note that obviously you can't put a 308 through a 5.56 suppressor, they only scale down. It is certainly viable to get 2 or 3 suppressors and use them on a wide range of platforms, a lot of people do because nfa items tend to drain the bank very quickly. If you have deep pockets, buy 10 if you want and file for all at the same time, ~6 months later you'll have 10 cans to have fun with. If not, the waiting is the hardest part but well worth it if you ask me.

Taking an epipen dose is very painful. Huge needle with lots of force behind it. Once taken, you get some of the benefits of adrenaline like vasodilation, bronchodilation, pupil dilation, and possibly some restart after cardiac arrest.

Give it a minute and you're not going to be a super-soldier, but a panic-attack victim who is puking his guts out. Unless tachycardia gets you first I guess.

Epinephrine is a bronchi dilator and a vaso constrictor. Helps you breath should your throat begin to swell shut. Other than that benadryl is fine. Also good if you're having trouble sleeping.
As for heart attacks. What kind of heart attack are we talkin here? If it's v-fib you're probably fucked without an aed. A lil field trick that can be done is dunking the patients face in freezing ice cold water or just slapping the ever living piss out of them.
And ontop of that what kind of break? Compound?simple? Moving with that shit has potential to cause internal bleeding which can cause compartment syndrome and then you're seriously fucked without real medical help.

Before I turned 21 I often showed up at my local range with my nugget but maybe only shot a clip or two out of it before turning to my 1911 and feeding it 200 or so rounds before leaving.

I had to do that shit because the the chickenshit range girls who don't know anything about firearms besides what their managers, who they probably slept with it, told them and assumed I had my 1911 illegally at age 19...in TEXAS.

>SAR aircrewman here

When I was still in the Navy, back in the stone age when we still had bases in the PI, Marines would routinely run exercises on Red Beach.

One day, in about 1987, a marine somehow managed to break his fucking leg on a FLAT BEACH WITH NO OBSTACLES ON IT. Somehow, he did infact have a epipine or its equivalent, and injected because in his limited reading ability saw 'ADRENALINE' and assumed he could run on it for while before telling his CO how much of a fuck-up he is.

I'll let you guess how that went.

Still deciding on first handgun.

Between Glock 19 and several other guns.

Any suggestions?

I am leaning towards glock due to reputation and cheap magazines at the cap that my state has. (15rds)

Noticed today p320 has a config with compact 15rd frame and full length slide. Anyone own this config? p320-9-FLS

Is it off balance? I thought regular compact version looked disgusting but this looks okay.

What are pros and cons of Glock 19 vs P320C?

Or should I just buy a metal framed gun. (CZ75) and deal with expensive mags.

I am in NJ so 15rd limit, no CC or OC and this is a range/learning gun only. I have small hands.

A lot of their data is. Their forums are actually a decent resource for tank history. The game itself, well, it's a game and one where a lot of things are fudged for the sake of playability, balance and tiering, it's not realistic in any sense though the models are pretty good.

Adrenaline in cardiac arrest is very disputed at the minute, there's a very controversial trial going on here in the UK where people are being trialed without it (Ethics nightmare).

Adrenaline given with a broken leg would be very bad, increased compartment syndrome risk and also in small, constant doses it makes pain worse.

Are these the same bow, or are they two different manufacturers that happened to use the same name for their bows?

Can somebody spoonfeed me on the facts about 7.62x51 NATO and .308 Winchester?

Some sources say that a cartridge of one should not go into a rifle for the other, while others say that they're similar enough to be shot out of either one. Then there are some that say that a .308 rifle can shoot both, but a 7.62x51 rifle can only shoot 7.62x51.

So, which is it?

There's also a LGS around here that almost exclusively deals with military surplus, and they're advertising their Mausers as .308. That's part of the reason I'm asking; to see if they're right, or if they're grossly misadvertising.
>>
>>30625324
The cartridges are the same. They are the same pressure just measured in different ways. vMilitary brass for machine guns does tend to have a thicker web so is more resistant to strecthing from poor headspace.
The difference is the chamber dimensions. SAAMI spec is tighter headspace then military spec. A rifle that fails SAAMI no-go can still pass the military spec and will also probably pass a field gage.
Doesn't matter what is marked on the barrel, if it passes SAAMI it will fire either with no issues. Even if it doesn't as long as it passes the milspec no-go it should be perfectly fine.
>>
>>30625324
.308 vs 7.62x51 is not like .223 vs 5.56x45

.308 and 7.62x51 are completely interchangeable as far as shooting one in a firearm marked as the other

it was a minor break, not like the bone was poking through the skin or something like that. bones can't feel pain, it hurt like a shitty bruise but with more tingling and nerve damage. most things that people say hurt a lot don't hurt much. the worst part about a broken bone is being a cripple for a month and having to be extra careful for 6 months

According to research, epipens are good for many years after being expired. Decades if stored properly. As long as the solution isn't clouded or milky, it's safe to inject, and a lower than optimal epinephrine dose is still a lot better than none at all.

Also, expired dates are 20% liability insurance and 80% a way to make more money off the product by forcing everyone to buy loads more of your shit earlier than they realistically need to.

can I return a gun while still on the waiting period in California without jumping through a bunch of hoops?

I realized I wanted a different gun more

Depends on your gun store's policy on returns and exchanges, they're probably not going to just let you return it without a restocking fee of some sort, if they let you return it at all.

People typically lose the digit when this happens, the epi constricts the blood vessels and stops blood flow to the digit

What round's good for a Glock 22 if I mainly want it for home defense and have mostly brick walls?

Not going to use it for target practice or whatever so somewhat more expensive novelty rounds should be in order.

Jose Marquez was able to disable an attacking nignog's gun with an incredibly lucky shot that went straight down the barrel of the attackers weapon.
How many other incredibly lucky shots have ya'll heard about? Only other one i can think of that comes to mind is the sniper kill in vietnam that perfectly pierced a vietcong scope without destroying it and shooting out the gooks eye.

The biggest problem, I think, is that shaped charges aren't made of foam. You'd need something more powerful and it's probably not gonna be a nerfgun anymore.

Shaped chares also work much better with a larger caliber. No one uses HEAT in autocannons or smaller.

If you have a broken leg your body is releasing a shit ton adrenaline already, using an epipen at that point could be very dangerous.
