It has come to my attention that you can get a Remington Model 11 for around $300-400 on gunbroker. I need a shotgun for home defense, and my understanding is that the Model 11 is a really good semi-auto shotgun. My plan is to cut one down to 18in and use an aimtech scope mount to mount a reflex or red dot sight. Is this a good idea?

Bubba pls no
>>
>>30586922
No, get a modern semi.
>>
>>30586922

cut off the stock too and knurl the fore end to improve your grip. gotta hold on tight.
>>

Would it be better to have a gunsmith put on a set of rifle sights? I just fucking hate bead sights, and they really aren't the best for dark hallways,
>>
They're great guns, just get a common model if you want to bubba it.

Also stick to drill/tap scope mounts for your optics, don't be stupid.

>>30586966
What else is there at that price range? Mossberg 930? I've heard mixed things.
>>
>>30586993
Guess I would take it to a gunsmith. And Gunbroker has loads of cheap old model 11s. I would never do this to an original Auto-5.
>>
>>30586979

...it's a fucking shotgun. If you do shorten the barrel sights won't be an issue since your spread will be huge. Also you're inside. It's not like you're shooting very far.
>>
Also, synthetic stock set worth it?

Retard detected.
>>
>>30587251

He's a retard, but at HD ranges point-shooting essentially what he'll be doing anyways and a bead sight will do. And a bead sight takes like seven seconds to install yourself.

Cheap import stuff like this.

save up for something better or get a good pump.

Seems like bubba-ing the shit out of a Model 11 is my best choice then.

>thinking a 16" barrel will have any spread at HD ranges
>>
>>30586922
No, it's not.

The Auto 5 was revolutionary at the time. Now it's outdated. Very outdated. Have you even fired one? The entire barrel flings back for each shot. Yes, a serviceable hunting-grade Auto 5 can be found for $350 if you look around, but to do all of your retarded shit you mentioned would cost enough money that you'd be far better off getting a Mossberg 590, something that was purpose built for the job.

If it's just a gun for fun and style then do whatever you want, but if you need a home defense weapon then just stop. It's not meant for that task. It's a sporting shotgun first and foremost.

in all honesty there is nothing more mechanically sound or reliable than a double-barrel breach-loading shotgun. it will not fail to load, it will not jam. it will not misfire. and if you need more than two shots when aiming at a target, let alone something as unwise as a person (given all the legal ramifications you're being silly enough to embroil yourself in so you can go to sleep feeling 'cool' because you have a semi-auto shotgun on hand that you're probably going to alter and thus make wildly illegal) than more than 2 rounds won't help. save money, move to a safer neighborhood. you're inexperienced OP. but you're not hopeless. just get on a better level than desiring what looks cool from that one movie you're mom took you to because you were under 18
>>
>>30586922

Have fun trying to keep it on target. Those things recoil worse than a pump thanks to that large mass flinging itself back at you.

If you want a semi for working, get a gas operated and not a long recoil operated. Hell, get a Remington 1100 or 11-87 or a Mossberg 930. Lots of aftermarket for your tacticooling desires and are good reliable shotguns.

Set the friction ring properly, dipshit.
>>
>>30587609
You mean 18"

>>30587251
It depends on if OP uses cheap buckshot and doesn't get a choke or threads for a choke put in. The wadded self defense stuff holds together pretty nicely, but the loose cheap shit and no choke might have quite the spread.
>>
>>30587211

Like fuck anon. I had a 12" 870 with ghost ring sights.
