Steel, Ceramic, Titanium, Polyethylene, Boron carbide.

What are your thoughts /k/. I missed the whole ar500 is shit threads. And rumors are that the russians are trying to switch over to boron carbide for their armor.

>must wear soft backing armor

how come ive never seen literally anybody use that though?

everybody i know just puts in the stand alone lvl 4s in their plate carrier
>>
>>30584400
If it's a level 4 standalone it cannot be AR-500.
>>
>>30584412

make sure people know you are referring to ar500 steel not ar500 the company.

Thier lvl 4 is still good

>8 lbs per plate

Better you than me anon.

Layers of Carbon nano tubes and Graphine. If only we could get more labs dedicated to producing both.
>>
>>30584505
ikr

but good featherweight lvl 4 plates cost a fortune in canada and im on a student budget
>>
lol

body armor is fucking retarded

here's what happens:

> first bullet penetrates, loses velocity
> goes through body & bounces off back plate because of reduced velocity
> bounces back to front plate, ricochet around causing ten times as much internal damage as a regular bullet wound.

You are literally better off going into battle shirtless. Like wearing plate carriers in your chest so that if you get shot and the bullet hos another bullet it will set it off and shoot you in the chest twice. Or even catch your chest on fire from the sparks abd cook off all of the bullets at once.

Fuckin retards....

Being that majority of people don't know that ar500 is a steel rating I doubt that most people would think that when they see "ar500". They would instantly assume the company.

As for who the op is referencing, I'd guess the company first. But let's educate him
>>
>>30584499
AR500 armor the company is also the one with the most egregious recall situation. From the returns horror stories I've been hearing, I wouldn't buy any armor from them.
>>
>>30584608
Is this your theory or is this through practice
>>
>>30584642
The recalls and the shipping period. The comments made against the company taking 8 weeks or more for some things is whats concerning
>>
I've always kinda wondered why plate carriers don't have a Kevlar layers on the front/back. Seems like the plates could be made thinner and lighter then while still being able to absorb the same amount of energy. Since the plates wight more than the Kevlar overall the whole thing would be lighter.

Ceramic is cool, Boron carbide is a type of ceramic and it's the tits. Steel is cheap, better than nothing I guess, but if the rounds doesn't strike the plate at a perfectly perpendicular angle you can expect a ricochet, probably into another part of your body, or the round with disintegrate like a drop of water and spill outward (spalling) and will fly up in your your face or in your arms or legs. We shot an AR500 plate for target practice and when we went to pick it up the spalling had dug a nice little ditch in the ground in front of it.

>>
>>30584891
do you want information about body armor or not? what do you have to contribute to the thread? what body armor do you have?
>>
>>30584753
They're plate carriers. They're just to carry ceramic armor plates. If you want Kevlar behind that then get an armor carrier like a CIRAS or IOTV
>>
>>30584819
>>30584821
The soft armor coverage is shit with the KDH plate carrier. This is the garbage you get when you only specify the sq. inches of soft armor coverage and don't have any requirements for cummerbund rigidity or armor placement.

While I agree on the principle, their retail store has shelves filled with every size plate they carry. They have stock they could ship out earlier.

That article was terrible. Blunt force trauma? It's literally dispersed over 120 square inches.
>>
>>30584352
>From Mr. Wolf

What a shit article.

>The truth of the matter is line-X is added to the plates because they are metal and guess what? Metal will corrode and or rust, which in turn can and will weaken it over time.

> Again, as I stated, If you wear AR500 plates with no soft armor backers you very well may not have a penetration of the plate but the blunt force trauma that your body absorbs will likely be enough to cause you serious internal injury and or death

>Wearing AR500 plates without a soft armor backer is not recommended and potentially dangerous to your health/life if you are shot in the plate.

>GETTING SHOT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS

My face when
Now this is shitposting. I don't think anyone could trust someone this stupid. Who the fuck is this guy? He's just writing bullshit. Of course, only an idiot would read anything on 'survival bug out.com' lol.
>>
>>30585024
also

>rust WILL corrode and render the plate ineffective

mfw my car is 15 years old and didn't rust and fall apart. Autistic level shitposting, let alone a thick plate. That would take literally years of sea-spray exposure to rust away. This guy is King Autismo for even mentioning this shit.
