For those of you who were in the military: is it hard to kill another person?
>>
>>30572186
I got hit with IDF on a near daily basis which desensitized me to explosions. My first few times getting shot at in hit & runs came as I was exhausted from walking with a pack, and I was too tired to really be shocked.

These things happened for a while before I actually got a chance to shoot back at somebody. When the chance came, I was really not getting the shock of combat all at once, and was firmly in the mindset of not giving a fuck. Shooting back and seeing dead insurgents was a nice feeling. It meant fewer attacks for a while and the feeling of a job well done.

>is it hard to kill another person?

the gun does most of the work
>>
>>30572186
I'm not in military but I'd say no. They've done studies about soldiers in WW2 and they found that like 99% didn't shoot to kill people. It wasn't until after WW2 where they started conditioning soldiers to fire immediately when they see an enemy. So it's probably easier nowadays than before. Now they say 95% of soldiers shoot to kill.

Lindy pls, when it comes down to your mates dying or them dying, everybody shoots to kill.

He covered that as well. Soldiers who wanted to protect their men were a minority of those who killed without hesitation

Hardest thing to do is pull the trigger. But with how liberal its getting the fallout would be almost as bad ( airforce). Adrenaline takes care of most of it hardest part is locating the person to shoot at. Thank god we use thermal imaging nowadays.

Putting the shell in the mortar is kinda heavy

>I knew it was going to be the Marshall report
>0:20, Marshall report cited
>In the trash it goes

These reports have been discredited for a long time, and the other big source for fire at the enemy "On Killing" heavily cities the Marshall report as a source.

Sorry m8 but you've been duped by famous plagiarist and faker SLA Marshal, better known through his ideological descendant Grossman.

While it's likely modern soldiers are more into headshots thanks to ACOGs and vidya, it's not nearly such a difference.

Oooh! I remember the story!

But sadly, not the specifics. Can't even say if it was South America or Southeast Asia...

Guy was in charge of Chile from 1973 to 1990.

Some Hugo Chavez type guy had gotten elected in 1970, and Nixon decided to have the CIA destabilize the country until he got booted out of office. After the military coup and the ensuing junta, US policy makers basically shrugged and said good enough.

It was harder watching a friend die, doing everything you can to keep their lung inflated and leg to stop bleeding after getting hit by an IED than it was to pull the trigger and watch someone you never met fall over in the distance and not get back up.

Whut? I heard there were problems with his methodology but that the conclusions were never seriously challenged or invalidated.

Like 1% of the military has ever seen combat.

The standard trigger pull on a US Issued M4/M16 is I would say 5-8 lbs. It can vary a bit depending on wear, lube, etc.

Any chump that has finger strength could pull the trigger.

>elected

No, Allende (the socialist candidate) won only ~34% of the vote, but since a coalition of leftist parties was in charge, the winner had to be picked from their parties, that's how Allende 'won' the election process, by coalition blocking, not by direct election.
>>

Okay, Joshua Graham. Go back to New Canaan.

I shot a guy in Iraq, blew a good portion of his face off, he survived for the timely intervention of a medic. Considering he was ~10 feet away and pointing a gun at my buddy I didn't find it terribly hard at the time and haven't found a reason to regret it since. Can't say I could shoot just anybody for any reason but if they're a legitimate threat I wouldn't hesitate or lose sleep afterward.
>>
>>30572186
No man. After a couple months of humping Afghanistan you'd kill a dude just so you don't have to carry the ammo back. The locals along the border with Pakistan were total trash that actively enabled our enemies.
