When I got started I was considering Police work but I discovered that I can do a lot of the things I would've enjoyed about Police work in the private sector so avoiding the Police bureaucracy problems was a plus. I'm glad I realized early on that training would be paramount. I spent as much time and money on training in the beginning as possible. I kissed a lot of ass. I did a lot of free work at the training school I attended a lot so that I can be around more often and meet people. That turned in to a regular paid job at the school plus doing uniformed armed security. I hen became a Private Investigator which was also a good selling point to get hired doing close protection work. Security teams need licensed PIs to do surveillance work which goes along with advance work. I stayed away from companies like G4S, Allied, Securitas, etc. They have nearly nothing to offer and to get ahead with them is almost impossible because they're clicky and play favorites. Their buddies always get the promotions. Instead I worked with smaller newer companies. The good thing about the security industry is that there are a lot of dumb asses, especially on the uniform side. So if you perform you will stick out. I basically outgrew every job I had and I trained. Being with smaller organizations allowed me flexibility not having to worry about X amount of Paid time off, or leave, etc. When it was time for a week long training class, I took a week off and came back.

If I need something, either the company or the protectee will gladly provide it.
