That's possible for a spinner because they have more strength (kinetic energy and potential energy) than any other legal bot design.

The flipper bots don't possess even 1/10th the total energy, so they have to rely on an out-of-bounds win or a well-built steel robot could be flipped 10,000 times without dying.
The hammer-bots also have only a tiny amount of energy in their hammer compared to a spinner's weapon, but they can use a really small surface area pointy-spike to penetrate into the steel and get to the more vulnerable internal stuff.
A spinner-bot is the one and only variety from battlebots or robot-wars that would actually be scary for a human who was placed into the arena. It's in such a big area and such a non-stop attack that one missed jump and your foot gets separated from the rest of you and a 2nd jump is no longer possible.
The hammer bots and ramp/flip bots would be a harmless joke for a person to beat.
Protip: All spinning robots are fucking cheesy and overpowered as fuck.

People have put their own spin on it a couple times. There was one kid that tried it with a double ended design, but he didn't build it strong enough to take the hits. The blades hit something solid and it ripped them clean off their motors.

100% agree on spinner superiority.
Comparing tombstone against minotaur, though, I think minotaur is much less vulnerable to breaking itself due to the width of the barrel, and the short radius.
Minotaur also has much more comprehensive armor than tombstone, and I think tombstone would be pretty vulnerable if a good driver could get at the backside.

Spinners would certainly be the scariest, but I'm fairly confident that a good flipper like Bronco or an half decent hammer would be pretty scary as well; Bronco can lift 1500lb in an instant; the force exerted would be more than that, but just 1500lbf lifting a typical 180lb person would be like falling 280 feet onto something quite hard. Those hammers would also be strong enough to rip flesh and break bones.

The competition invites people (AFAIK) not just for being good, but for being good TV entertainment. Duplicates of robots as simple as Tombstone would probably get ignored / blocked from coming on the show. Also, imagine if 2 Tombstones with opposing rotation in their blades hit blade-to-blade; I'm not sure those lexan walls would be strong enough to handle the carnage.
