Something like this>>30547176

Look for PSA Premium uppers, or BCM

Get a lower from PSA or Aero.

Midlength 16" is the easiest, and probably the best for most people.

You don't need an optic right away, so a quality rear sight is very important.

Look at KAC, DD, LMT, and Magpul MBUS(pros too) for rear sights.

typically you save money if you buy things individually.

bare minimum:

get two tourniquets, 2 or 3 israeli bandages, some gauze, gloves (optional), quick clot or celox, trauma shears

more advanced

chest seal, airway device(s), sutures, forceps, chest darts - these things require some training or at the VERY least familiarization.

I guess not but why not just spring the extra $50 to get two highcom SAPI's

maybe. there is a risk of throwing clots but the reason most people dislike it is because it more or less is a chemical cauterization. you dont use quikclot unless you're really bleeding like a stuck pig. bad extremity wound and the TQ should come first.

Pmags are good to go, and USGI aluminums with magpul followers are also good to go. I'd prefer the pmags because the finish on the USGI aluminum mags is a little grainy.

I'm not going to provide an explanation.

You took offense because I lumped in Larue, with other /arg/ shilled favorites when I referred to the whole bunch as "budget build". I could argue, though, that Timney and Geissele exist, but they're not shilled quite so hard on /arg/.

You were angry that I called the surefire useless when it is, except for the dude that uses it to hunt varmints (assuming spotlighting prey is a legal hunting method in his state. It is not in my state). Weaponlights won't do a civilian AR15 much good as much as they would an airsofter.

Are lower parts kits more or less equal for a novice builder/shooter?

Planning to build an AR from parts (no completed upper or lower), wondering what /arg/ thinks about the merits of getting:

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Enhanced-Lower-Parts-Kit-BCM-M4-p/bcm-elpk-semi-blk.htm

over

https://www.stagarms.com/sale-lower-receiver-parts-kit-with-right-handed-selector/

for half the price.

Same question for upper receiver:

http://www.monmouthreloading.com/shop/ar15-upper-receiver-aero-precision/?attribute_options=Assembled%3A+Black
$80 Aero upper

vs.

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XBCM4URM4&name=BCM+M4+Upper+Receiver+Assembly&groupid=2104
$120 BCM upper

I know that ideally they're all built to the same specs, but then the BCM upper description goes ahead and says:
>Diameter of the barrel extension is slightly undersized for a tighter fit to the barrel and a more accurate rifle.

Which confuses me and makes me think they're not all created equal.

I guess generally, can someone advise as to what are the parts (again, building this all from scratch) where I should spring for a higher quality alternative where available?

I imagine barrel is one of those parts, but I haven't opened that can of worms yet - will do research on that soon. I see people talking about the best buffer - I just have no clue about how to tell whether or not the concern is legitimate or something people manufacture to justify their spending.

like an adult, because of the course of my life, ive been wrong many times and thought this might be one of them

gratz on your closing argument being *fingers in ears* "im not responding, and youre a faggot for liking lights" while others are flaming you for the surefire thing

build kits are more or less equal.
The triggers that come with them are miles apart.

The trigger that comes with PSA build kits is garbage compared to almost anything else, even S&W $500 ARs have better triggers. I didn't even realize how bad they were until I shot other peoples' guns.
>>
>>30549512
Bottom rung price usually equals bottom rung quality. I'd build one of those for a cheap house/truck sort of rifle that'd keep a relatively low round count without high expectations of accuracy.
>>
>>30549578
>>30549604
I'm not a poorfag, but a cheapfag, and I'm with this dude. Get whatever LPK then drop in at least an ALG ACT. It's no Timney but you should feel better shooting.
>>
>>30549579
>You're not making any sense
Then follow the conversation.

>The following companies are shilled hard on /arg/
>YOU JUST CAN'T AFFORD THEM!!!!
>Why would you say that? These are budget-build tier items
>WHAT!??!?!!? HOW IS ONE OF THOSE BUDGET BUILD!?!?!?!
Get your panties out of their wad, bro. You're just playing fuck fuck games here.
>>
>>30549577
>If you're home, turn on the fucking lights
What if, in a home defense scenario, there is an armed person in your house? Your plan of action is to go around turning on the lights?
>>
>>30549577
Because a flashlight in a dark room shined at you is more disorienting the lights suddenly coming on.
Would you rather have the intruder disoriented and blind, or briefly blinded and able to see?
>>
>>30549577
>turn on the lights

That's stupid if you're trying to catch someone by surprise, which is the idea if you're trying to ensure your own safety and/or increase the odds of holding them until police arrive.

Turning on the lights basically says 'I'm awake, so either come rape/murder me if that's what you're here for, or just take off if you're spooked with almost no chance of being caught'

That's why a weapon light makes sense for HD.

But I don't expect your 'Don't confuse me with the facts, I've made up my mind' flavor of Ass-burgers to be flexible enough to understand why you're a dumbass.
>>
>>30549644
>HOW IS ONE OF THOSE BUDGET BUILD!?!?!?!
yeah thats my point. larue is commonly accepted as not being budget. im asking you to back up your claim. chill fucking out
>Get your panties out of their wad, bro
they havent been. im not trying to rustle you here, but face it, thats been you this whole time

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

The trigger in this kit already seems pretty similar, compared to the ALG ACT http://algdefense.com/alg-combat-trigger-act.html

What caught my eye is the ALG ACT is nickel-teflon coated and so is the BCM trigger in the kit. Would be slightly cheaper to just get the BCM kit vs the Stag+ALGtrigger but if the ALG ACT is worth it then I'll go for it.

What are some higher end triggers, out of curiosity? I've heard of Geissele (250$ range from what I can tell) and you mentioned Timney (looks like the same price range).
>>
>>30549667
You don't "sneak up" on home invaders, Kyle. And you sure as fuck aren't sneaky if you've got a flashlight whipping around showing him exactly how close to the end of the hallway you are.
>>30549669
>Because a flashlight in a dark room shined at you is more disorienting the lights suddenly coming on.
oh? really?

>would you rather have the armed bad guy look up in surprise at the light, look around and find you, while temporarily blinded?
>or would you rather have him know exactly where you are, because you're holding the only source of light in the whole house?
I'll take my chances with "not being a fucking retard"

Besides, home invaders are rarely there for a firefight. Only 1/100 aren't going to shit themselves and run just due to the fact you're home and armed.

i restore, not spoerterize or bubba cheapr mosins that other people have pre-wrecked for me (as truck guns for example) ... one recently was completely inop because of some shit that scared me with the trigger, so for shits and giggles i dropped in the timney unit where you screw it in place where the trigger bar had gone, and keep the trigger pin, shootsgoodmang.jpeg

I have $1500 to spend on an AR, not counting optic. Spec me a build PLS. BTW, what is winning, M-LOK or Keymod?
>>
>>30549686
>Larue isn't budget build! IT COSTS ALMOST $200 DOLLARS!
That means it will fit in a gun under $700. That qualifies. Even if you like it, sweetheart.

Compare it to uppers that go for $1800.

this is a great budget trigger upgrade.
http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/ALG_Defense_Combat_Trigger_ACT_Tuned_By_Geissele_p/alg-act.htm

turned my AR15 from my least favorite gun to shoot into my top 3.

>actually taking a class from larry snickers

I agreed with you until then.

Would sbr'ing my lower as a 5" 9mm be the best thing to do, the shortest barrel I have is 10.3, but I heard you can put any upper as long as it's the same length or longer
>>
>>30549774
Oh, you're going to have the bad guy in your sights (sneaking up on him, no less) and then, when you've got him dead to rights, you'll turn on the flashlight and BOOM, now that your light is on, you finally have the tactical advantage!

Fucking retard.

Guys, I'm not a /k/ommando but I've been intending to buy an AR-15 for a while. Recent events indicate that now is the time.

I shot one every year for 6 years in the Air Force, but that is the extent of my experience. Here's the local store I've been considering purchasing from:

http://www.nwarmory.com/

I bought a Springfield XD .45 from there a few years back. I don't know anything about different gun manufacturers or parts or accessories, and I don't want to get ripped off. Budget is not an issue, but I only want something reliable with useful features - I don't care about gimmicks. $1000-2000 would be a reasonable range for me.

Any advice?
>>
Anyone ever bought from 80-lower.com? Can't find much about them.
>>
>>30549799

>anon

what you described could be 100 different rifles for 100 different people
>>
>>30549784
citation for what?

The price of Larue parts?
That "budget builds" can have a budget of $700?
That many companies make uppers that are way more expensive than Larue parts?

Did you link the right post?
>>
>>30549836
the S&W Sport 2 for 599 is reasonable. Get $300 optic and $100 mount and you're g2g.
>>
>>30549836
Hey Oregonfag, Oregonfag reporting

Northwest Armory is legit, but Curt's Discount Shooter Supply is best place in Portland to get your AR shit.

http://curtsdiscountguns.com/

The site seems a little gimmicky but they know their shit, I promise
>>
>>30549843

>if it's more expensive it's better
>>
>>30549865
You don't even know what you're arguing, dumb shit.

"Budget Build" doesn't mean "Terrible"
it means "cheap" or at least "reasonably priced for a newcomer"
>>
>>30549843
you're stretching my credulity that you, personally, could build a larue for sportical cost
>>
>>30549841
You tell me then, what am I supposed to ask? For fucks sake, a good rifle at $1500 for most scenarios. By that logic, because there are millions of ways to build an AR, no one can ever recommend anything. Sure, you could spec it a million ways, so how would YOU spec YOUR rifle. Just the rifle, I already have mags, ammo and will buy an optic. Here is one specific detain: 16" barrel. There.
>>
>>30549878

Not even the guy you're arguing with, but your whole argument is there are more expensive things so something like Larue isn't Gucci. I bet you don't have a full V7 build so by your logic your rifle is poorfag junk
>>
>>30549878
except that's what you've been fucking implying this whole time
>>30549889
> 16 before or after muzzle device?
> which length gas?
> which style handguard
>> if rail, covering the gas block?
>>> if covering gas block, covering how much of barrel?
>>
>>30549889

>16"

Was that so hard? What do you want it for by "SHTF"? Urban combat? HD? Do you expect to be bugging out? Do you want to build or buy some completed parts?
>>
>>30549839
Not sure what your timeline or budget is like, but if you want anything premium look into custom or high-end billet 80s. There are numerous small outfits producing them (Black Rain, BRS, etc)

If your timeline is tight or you're looking to save money, basic forged lowers are very similarly functionally.
>>
>>30549839
To anyone looking to do an 80 make sure your do your homework because it's much more expensive, time consuming, and nervewracking than buying a completed lower.
>>
>>30549889
No need to get angry that people aren't giving you the sort of advice you want - maybe start asking more targeted questions that show that you aren't lazy and have done a modicum of research yourself. Someone already answered your post above anyways.

>>30549786
Thanks, that makes the second recommendation for the ALG ACT so I'll definitely get it. Notably, the ALG ACT has a 5.5 lb pull, and on the same site, there are some rave reviews about Hipertouch EDT, which is apparently advantageous for having a 4.5 lb pull while maintaining the hammer fall energy.

http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Hiperfire_AR15_Hipertouch_EDT_Enhanced_Duty_Trigge_p/hf-edt.htm

For someone who has never shot an AR before, would I even know/appreciate the difference?
