So I shot a shoulder protector from a IOTV with a .45 and a 7.62x25 mm the 7.62 tore a huge chunk of Kevlar out the exit while the .45 left a clean hole and small amount of Kevlar what caused this? hydrostatic shock? is that a thing in Kevlar? I'm curious as to /k/s thoughts on the results of this (I also recovered the slugs from another shoulder protector that I had up agents a better back stop)

velosity vs. weigt vs. shape vs. rigidity
Difficult to say what will happen without testing it.

Speed beats armor. The Tok is hauling ass and the .45 is just taking a jog.
>>
>>30530767
what caused the huge exit wound like that? also yes I relies that hydrostatic shot is unlikely in a non-fluid material using pistol calibers (even surplus tokarev ammo) but its about the only think I can think of I figure both rounds were tumbling so I doubt that's what caused the difference

I would have figured that the tokarev would have had the small exit and the .45 would have the bigger exit it just seems to me that the results are turned around that's all they both got though the tokarev sides all kinds of fucked up and the .45 is not just a through and through

underrated post

Probably just shitty ammo through shitty rifling, because I expected the opposite too
>>
>>30530849
So more energy was transferred by the tok? I'm guessing that's because of the lighter weight?
>>
>>30530816

are you sure that's not what happened?

did you look at it after each shot?
>>
>>30530869
that makes sense too though my riffling is not great but its not really bad... and I use that red army surplus ammo
>>
>>30530884
yes I looked between shots
>>

Fast projectile means the armor gets raped. Speed kills.

It applies from the lowliest steel core rifle bullets all the way to the $10,000 depleted uranium penetrators used to kill tanks.
>>
>>30530984
do you think the results would be similar on a human body? or does the armor simply create more resistance thus higher energy transfer?
