What's a safe bet? Looking for something I can punch paper / remove Bambi with, preferably for under 700 bucks (for the rifle alone).

Tikka T3/T3x.
CZ 550FS.
Ruger American.

and look at the Savage rifles too (i.e. Classic or Hunter series).

If I'm looking for a no-frills, entry-level budget-friendly Savage in 30-06 or .270, which models are the go-tos?

Been looking into this, did a lot of research. Everyone seems to have their own likes and dislikes and gripes about one rifle or another.

As a general consensus apparently Savage makes some really great underrated rifles for a dirt cheap price, they don't follow the low price low quality trend. Couldn't attest to it myself.

I settled on getting a Tikka T3x but I can't find any in stores, about $620 or so.
>>
I was considering getting either the Savage Model 11 Scout or the Mossberg MVP Varmint/Predator.

Which should I get? Or is there another gun I should get instead?
>>
What puts me off of buying a regular old bolt action deer gun are the magazines.

Four rounds? Seriously?

Why don't they make any that can take magpul .308 mags out of the box?
>>
>>30523739
Keep in mind that some things are contradictory.

With a precision rifle, you typically want a heavy barrel like a Medium Palma or something to minimize dispersion over shot strings. Precision stocks and chassis also tend towards the chunky side, especially when you add a bipod or something.

These features aren't necessarily good for a gun you intend to hump around while hunting

Here's the list.

You can get a Savage 111 in .308 or 30-06 bundled with a decent scope for around $650.

>>30525971

The Axis is their decent entry-level rifle, but with the budget you gave you could get one of their better models that you might like more.

Most important thing is to handle them and see what fits and handles well. All these rifles should shoot well, but a lot of what makes a good gun is subjective.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

>>

None of the guns on there have caveats.

I'm not cramming an * in there accompanied by an essay on what years are okay before Remington QC went to shit and how to identify an older rifle from a newer one.

New Remington 700s are iffy that's why its not on there.

Should I spend my money on something like a sauer, like is their really much difference between a sauer and a tikka t3x?
>>
>>30531137
ive shot both.. sauer is good and all, but i bought a 550 american for 1/8 of the price witch is just as fucking good. the trigger is even better with all the adjustments. the sauer is much nicer in stock and finish though. not worth the price if u ask me. tikka is also good
>>
>>30523739
Tikka T3
Howa 1500/weatherby vanguard

best value you're gonna find.

Savage axis is a good shooter too, but they have cut corners everywhere else to bring the price down

This.

4 round mags is just retarded.
Is there any 10 round mag bolt actions in production ?
>>
>>30532792

You can get aftermarket 10 round magazines for most bolt action rifles, just google them for the rifle you're interested in.

Also the Mossberg MVP takes AR mags.
>>
>>30532792
Ruger Gunsite Scout takes 10 round box mags.
>>
>>30526522
unless you have a heavy barrel your accuracy will go to shit after 4-5 rounds anyway from the barrel overheating

also, it's not exactly sporting to be taking 10 potshots at a durr; the durr has to be taken with one shot, possibly two.
>>
>>30532792

you're doing it wrong, son
