Which do you prefer and why?
>>
>>30521522
I prefer having both.

Because Freedom.
>>
>>30521522
I prefer AK so that I don't feel the need to spend thousands on accessories that I'll never be happy with.

AK is good enough by itself, and the rounds are better too.

I have both but I'd say the AK is more fun because the round/action has the most perfect amount of recoil, I love the manual of arms of the AK as it feels much more natural for me, and I enjoy the history of buying surplus for the AK that the AR just doesn't have because older generations bought it all our or it was destroyed.

AK and slav guns in general. A big part of that is just the looks, but it also just feels more natural to me.
ARs are extremely nice rifles, and they have all sorts of things that I "should" love about them, but they just don't get me excited in the least.
Every time I finish shooting one, I just sigh and wish I'd been shooting my 556 ak instead.

AK because aesthetics.

AR15

ak is all "It's a solid platform, indestructible, can't screw it up, bury it in mud for 40 years then dig it up and shoots fine"
then it's all
"Don't buy that brand, or any other available brand, because they all fall apart after 50 rounds, mushrooming problems, finish causing barrels to explode into rust! Don't buy parts kits, don't buy stamped, don't buy milled, don't buy..."

AR15 are the exact opposite
>It's totally unreliable platform
then it's all
>what brand should you get? Pretty much all of them will do just fine for the next 10,000 rounds

>Why reply
>Shitposts
>Etc

Perhaps the internet has ran its course on AR vs AK threads. I'm pretty sure that's been the case since ~1995 or so.

>In addition

Playing this-or-that games when the 'why not both' maymay fully applies is shit-tier retardation of the highest order.

>But just for shits

The AK is a lot of fun to shoot - cheap ammo, very collectible rifles and accessories from a huge range of warsaw pact variants, etc.
Downside - optics aren't as easy and the rainbow trajectory of 7.62x39 takes some practice to master out to 300-400 yards effectively. Can't replace a shot-out barrel without specialized tooling and a hydraulic press.

AR - accessories galore. Build-a-bear simple to make a custom config to your tastes. Low recoil. Flat trajectory. Mind-boggling gear queer options for accessories. Can replace barrels with a vise, torque wrench, and armorer's wrench.
Downside - a 'fun' factor is missing vs the AK. buffer tube CHONG CHONG CHONG noise when firing. Folding stocks + buffer tubes = nogo. 5.56 loses a lot of effectiveness from shorter barrels and requires Gucci ammo to stay kickass. Takes more time to clean. Can hiccup on steel case cheap ammo.
>>
>>30521522
AR-15. Nonexistent recoil and easily suppressed. I can only shoot ~10rds or 30-30 or ~20rds of .308 before I feel injured. With 5.56 I can shoot 600-800 rounds a day and feel nothing. I love it.

I've heard good things about the 5.45 but, there's no benefit for me as I already have an AR-15.

AK.

Because it's a robust work horse. A solid tool, not a sensitive, over-designed gadget that needs to be kept in tip top condition to function.

In general, I tend to prefer simple and reliable things in life. It's already a few small troubles off your shoulders when you know that an AK will almost certainly fire when you pull the trigger, no matter the situation or age.

they laugh at those things because they are cheap or they might increase your groups by 0.5 MOA, not because they'll explode in your hands or catch fire. Their concerns are summed up as closer to "Does my gun get to sit at the cool table?" and not "Is my gun going to work next time I take it to the range?"

The Eotechs, now that's different, but that's an optic, not a gun platform.

Apparently I see that as a much lower bar than you do.

I can somewhat sympathize with antics like his, though. You can only take the time to attempt to inform a willfully ignorant person on the internet and get exactly ZERO success so many times before you simply resort to trolling.

I'm a smod on a rather large car forum that's been active since 1999 and yes, there are days when 'use search you lazy fuck' simply can't convey one's internalized anger at the laziness and ignorance some people have. The spoon-feeding demand is high these days.

So it's easier to simply countertroll and claim bait, BTFO, use search, or give 100% wrong information. Existence is suffering.

Both the AR and the AK are good weapon platforms. AK is a little more rugged and has the S L A V aesthetic, so it wins my love. Of course there is a considerable difference in the cartridges used and the AR is going to be a little more accurate at longer ranges, as 7.62x39 gets a little shaky once it gets around 400 yards. Unfortunately, entry-level/good AKs are more expensive than pretty good ARs due to import bans. If you're looking to become familiar with a modern weapon platform, just get an AR. No matter what, if you invest $500 into an AK or an AR it's going to be pretty shit. I just want a long, sexy VEPR.

That is some sexy wood furniture you have there.

Tell us more about it, is it aftermarket/do it yourself, or did it come with your rifle?
>>
>>30522237
A 2015+ WASR10 is a very good AK that'll hold value thanks to having been an imported rifle.
The C39V2 is okay but overpriced IMO. The original C39 is trash.
Early VZ2008's were a huge deal for the price. I missed out on the $399 w/5 mags deal that was only two years back but feels like an eternity.

Generally speaking, the greater the import/demil parts content on an AK, the higher value it'll hold in the long term. The WASR is desirable in this respect because it has a CHF barrel & other parts from ex-commie tooling.

i'm going to back this dude up

assuming suppressed -- to mitigate concerns about blast, flash, report distracting him

(even tho it reduces recoil to a degree)

>flinching is a thing

/k/ suggests RIMFIRE 22 to new shooters so they group well before moving on to bigger shit, and using 9mm instead of "#BigBoy" calibers to sink more hits in potential Defensive Gun Use

i dont like firing my nugget from the bench, but think it is powder puff recoil standing, so i get where dudebro is coming from ... tho AR10 type doesnt shoot nearly as hard, especially with my 762sdn6

here endeth the lesson
>>
>>30521522

Having both like any good gun owner should, I prefer my AK most of all.

Feels easier to manipulate, even as a right handed guy, is actually lighter than my AR (which is a 20" with no accessories), isn't as picky about ammo, doesn't need to be saturated in lubricant, or oiled and cleaned religiously, and I like the small kick of recoil next to the AR's virtually no kick at all.

Also, assembling the AR was a pain in the ass. Fuck all of those little pins and piss-ant springs that try to fly across the room.

You're a cool dude, I don't care what the other anons say about you. Thanks a lot though, seriously.
>>
>>30522857
dude, I mean this kindly, but what the fuck are you talking about?

I don't have a beef on AK, but for full disclosure I prefer AR, probably mostly from being used to it

in fairness, I grant that your AK is prolly lighter and will highlight it is easier to maneuver since you have a 20 inch AR (which I also prefer).

however: I dunno which AR you have that is finnicky about ammo. I shoot an 11.5 BCM -- so, shorties are supposed to be raceguns that run poorly, but I use shiity "maybe low pressure" steel cased Tula outta PMAGs

>only cycling issues I have EVER had were becuase of shitty old GI magazines

saturated in lubricant and religious cleaning are retarded arguments that, based on you being capable of typing full thoughts, I ...think... you are better than

I also grant that AK is much less boring to fire, having at least /some/ muzzle movement

assembly being relative, I never liked AK's big fucking spring, but I also half ass the shit outta cleaning my AR (google BCM's filthy 14) which fucking springs TRY TO FLY ACROSS THE ROOM??
>>
>>30522744
Just mount a rial and get magnified optics then you can just look lower for irons as well. It's much more sturdy and will hold zero better then your current setup
>>
>>30521540
This
>>
>>30522918

Maybe I just have a shitty BCG and charging handle but if that thing isn't lubed up it smells like something is burning after charging it a single time.

As for the spring, those tiny little shitheads for the detent pins, particularly the ones meant to hold in the pivot pins that keep the upper receiver and lower receiver together.

I made the mistake of letting that thing slip while I held it down. Spent the next hour trying to find it in a room with carpet flooring.
>>
>>30523000
trips checked

...are you ... REMOVING the pivot pins?

yeah i mean, if you want that smell gone, you dont need it to float in lube, but i guess its more an art than a science, one i figured out in the army (inb4 thank me/you for my/your service) but it is frustrating as hell

also the sound of the buffer and buffer spring can drive some guys nuts and make them buy the super expensive JP captive unit

im not really an AR fanboi, it defo has its problems, but i am very used to it, and the AK fails to light my fire even moreso

>>

Not at all, those spring were only a problem when assembling the AR, that was the pain in the ass.

My AR is like my prissy capitalist prom queen. My AK is my commie whore that just gets its job done.

I love AKs, but AR15 is the objectively better gun.

AR because of BHO, the controls, Stoner gas is pretty clever, easier to throw optics on, and carry handle aesthetics if you don't want to fuck with red dots.

AKs are fine too though. They put rounds downrange. Bro has one so best of both worlds. It and the AR both are kind of boring to shoot, but that is kind of the point of such guns isn't it?

>>30522857
>is actually lighter than my AR (which is a 20" with no accessories)
How the fuck did you manage this?

>assembling the AR was a pain in the ass
As opposed to the ezmode build that is an AK am I right?
>>
>>30523297

I suspect the barrel may be an Hbar, but the AK is only a 16" green mountain barrel on a stamped receiver.

Building an AK is time consuming but not exactly difficult if you have the tools. Rivet crushing is the worst part.

ARs are not difficult to assemble either, just tedious. All of the little pins and springs are a pain.

Needless to say the AR is inherently easier because it is normally -assembled- as opposed to built like an AK. That's if you buy a pre-machined upper and lower anyway.

>>30521522

Ar15, because that's the platform I'm used to and prefer. Find it reliable, I know what to do if it ever jams, I'm drilled with it, so it goes automatically. Prefer the varieties of set ups you can have with it and the several uses it can have.

I own an AR-15, an AK-74 (Tantal to be more specific), and a Century All-Murican build milled AK47. I prefer the 74.

More experience with it, more accessories for it that are cheaper. I'd probably have wound up preferring the AR if I have been around them longer, but shit happens and 5.45 is based.

AR because I prefer the ergonomics, weight, and modability. I like AKs also, but I feel they're overpriced these days. Maybe it's only because I remember 8 years ago when WASRs were 300 bucks.
>>
>>30523682
Even with the wire stock, I can rek things at a hundred+ yards no problem. I used to have a Maadi crutch stock on it and switched it out for a fixed RPK-style stock last week.
>>
>>30523127
Referring to the most recent production batch that is virtually devoid of the canted FSB/RSB's and other issues often found on earlier WASR-10's.

Ususally avoided if you find a WASR 10/63 since those were built from demil'd Romy G AK's and other Romy AK's.
