It's kinda like with TT33 - you can load Mauser C96 rounds inside of it and it WILL shoot and cycler properly, but for what purpose? The gun is engineered to survive much, much stronger loads, if they'd want to use Mauser 7.62x25 they would just thin and weaken many parts to make this shit cheaper and lighter, but no - they wanted huge stopping power so they've made a handgun that was rugged as fuck so it could actually survive the loads it used.
Same goes with MG34 - it was designed to fire full-sized rifle round, you can turn it into 5.56 but something built purposefully for 5.56 will be simply better.

PPS-43 really wasn't better. It didn't had folding stock until later models(it LOOKED like it was supposed to fold but was welded shut) and faced similar problems with magazines as PPSH had - shitty mag mount + shitty springs + shitty mag quality = tons of jams - if you consider PPSH to be jamomatic then so is PPS.
