Hey /k/,

Live with wonderful and loving parents who are anti gun but also understanding.

I've shot rifles/shotguns for several years but they have always been adamant against handguns until this year. They have decided to allow me to have one handgun in the home.

If you could only have one handgun for range shooting and fun purposes what would you buy?

15 rd limit.

I live in NJ so no CC.

I sorta want a Glock 19 due to good reputation and reliability plus magsize.

Something inside me is calling towards a John Browning invention of some kind though (Cz75, Hipower or 1911)

What do you guys recommend? Whatever I buy will also be grabbing a 22lr conversion slide if possible.

(inb4 move. Can't atm but working on it.)
>>
If you want to conceal carry then buy the smallest one possible.
>>
>>30515406
Can't CC or carry at all. Thanks NJ.
>>
>>30515411

then move to America
>>
>>30515384
>Whatever I buy will also be grabbing a 22lr conversion slide if possible.
glock and dont do this
conversion slides suck and the mags they come with suck hard
youd be better off spending 300ish on a base model mkiii or buckmark than 250-300 on a finicky pos
>>
>>30515411
Just pick the one that looks the best to you. With your restrictions, any minor difference in weight or capacity won't matter. Personally I like the look of the Beretta 92 and CZ-75 and their variants. Fine fine guns.

I only own 3 handguns and if I could only keep one, it would definitely be the Beretta. No question.
>>
Fnx. 15 rounds of 45 acp.
>>
Glock 19
>>
>>30515567
I like cz75 but only compact model comes with 15 rounders.
>>
>>30515411

>>
>>30515551
Once again can't have more than one handgun. Im willing to deal with finickiness if it means variety.
>>
OP I have a glock 19. Its shootable and easy to use. If u could only have one psitol its definetly in the top three. You might want to look at the 40 cal compact glock and get a 9x19 barrel just to allow more versatility.

Having said that try and shoot different guns before you buy, glocks don't have safeties which is a big issue with me, its regularly hot AF where I live and I Mexican carry Inna house in basketball shorts, can't do that with my glock.
>>
>>30515642
no really conversion kits are that bad. theres no point considering the price of 22lr. please dont. or go ahead and do it but you were warned.
>>
>>30515686
I heard the advantage arms ones were servicable as long as you used cci or goldenbullet.
>>
>>30515675
>glocks don't have safeties which is a big issue with me

Why do you absolutely need a safety? Are you afraid your boogerhook will magically gravitate towards the bang switch and fire against your will? Stop drinking the fud lore koolaid.

HOw much easier to maintain are striker fired vs steel framed hammer guns?
>>
1911.
>>
>>30515384
Conventional wisdom would say glock 19. My personal opinion would be the compact cz75 of your choosing with a manual safety. And, of course, the best self defense ammo you can buy.

Sounds like you have the same mindset, but are waiting to pull the trigger. Get the CZ.
>>
>>30515993
significantly easier but maintaining a steel framed gun isnt hard at all just needs more oil
>>
As much as I love 1911's, for your first handgun you should get the glock. Much easier maintenance and more versatile.

Sig p320 compact is a good all-rounded

little heavier and bulkier than a g19, but not by much, and it's reliable, easy to maintain, and comes with an above-average default trigger
>>
>>30515384
Sig p226 buy once cry once...?

1911 is tits though

Cz75 if poorfag

Beretta 92FS if you want something to throw after it runs out of bullets & it goes wop instead of bang when you pull the trigger

Glock or M&P if you like generic idiot proof guns

>>
>>30516158
Only thing I dislike about ruger is stainless finish.

Wish they did park or blue.
>>
Cover the basics first, get the boring, reliable & widespread G19
>>
>>30516183
Agreed. Talo offers them blued but I'm not sure how much they are.
>>
>>30516084
I agree, SIG P320. The ability to swap frames and slides will effectively give you multiple pistols while really only having one. Plus they're great pistols anyways.
>>
>>30516153
Sig P250 compact is a 15 rounder.
>>
I guess ill go feel them all up and see how they feel in my hand.

Honestly rental shit is expensive as fuck in my area so I may not get a chance to shoot them. I will definately be trying to find a HI-power, 1911, cz75, glock 19 and beretta 92 to molest soon.
>>
>>30516143
Rock Island is good for an entry level. They have blued GI models for ~$450, all the way to their moderately tricked out models for $7-800 with night sights, ambi safety, adjustable trigger and speed hammer. Not a bad option if you don't like stainless. Just buy better mags than what it comes with.
>>
>>30515384
About to get a bunch of hate from the mall ninjaz; but get something metal.

If I could only own one handgun, and I am not allowed to carry it, I would get a full size range toy and I just like the feel of a full metal gun. I would either go with a Sig P226, or a custom 1911. But, what I like is not the same as what you may like, so instead you should go to the local gun stores and feel as many different guns as you can. Anything you like a lot, write down the model and do some research on it; quality control, reliability, aftermarket support, etc.
>>
A Glock 19 is like the Toyota Corolla of guns. Personally, I don't care for them, but they're idiot-proof, reliable, and have a sizable aftermarket.
>>
>>30516846
I will do the feeling guns up thing.

I probably will just end up getting a glock for now though. I already have one gun in 9mm. I figure in the future I can get a nice 1911 to play with after I learn some fundamentals on glock or another 9mm.

I just hope NJ stores arent too uptight about me groping their guns.
>>
>>30515384
The Hi-Power was my first, and is still my favorite. The problem is that new ones are stupid expensive, but some of the FEG's or surplus are excellent if they haven't been shot to death.

I agree about avoiding a conversion slide. It's better to just get a dedicated .22 pistol. I have a Browning Buckmark and really like it.

Many think that CZ75's are kind of overpriced for what they are.
If I were to get a Glock that's not for CC, I'd go for a G34 Gen4. It can support optics, looks very cool, and would be real delight to shoot for target or competition shooting.

>I've heard finish/fit on cz handguns has been shit lately. How much truth is there to that?
The truth is it's always been the same. More of like a heavy paint than a chemical reaction finish. I personally like it, but it really doesn't matter. Holds up well, and oiling prevents corrosion.

To be honest, I carry my CZ 82 with buffalo bore "+p+" (quotation marks because there is no standard, it's more akin to the original military loads) more than my 9mm luger CZ 2075 RAMI.

It seems like you want a one-and-done modern handgun, but I can't recommend that double stack makarov enough.
>>
>>30517374
Trying to avoid using blocked/pinned mags as they are dubiously legal in my state.

Hmm ill have to read up more on 22lr shit then.

I love 1911 browning style handguns but the glock seems like the most practical choice.
>>
>>30515384
I don't understand the "only one" thing, like two guns would be more dangerous? They think if you have too many you won't be able to pay enough attention and one will sneak off to shoot a baby while you aren't looking?

Seems to me like that if you trust someone with one gun you should trust them with a dozen.
>>
>>30516084
>>30516247

this and this

Seriously consider purchasing the 320.
I ended up choosing it over the g19 after a couple months of research and deliberation.

P226 is still my fav pistol in 9mm and 15rds.

FNX45 is 15rds of 45acp. That is pretty sweet.
>>
p320 and p226 seem neat but 50 dollars a magazine is really really steep.
>>
If you're not going to carry it, then you want something full sized. Don't fuck around with anything plastic or polymer, since you're not carrying it, it doesn't need to be light weight.

If money isn't a problem, get a sig p226 for around $900. If you're on a budget, get a CZ-75 for $500.

You're welcome.

I am worreid about buying a Hi-Power or 1911 that I will fuck it up appearance wise by running shitty ammo or messing up the takedown.

I love John Browning designs but the idea of having a gun like a glock that is brainless to takedown/maintain kind of appeals to me.
>>
>>30515551
cz kadet is meant to be pretty good, on par with the ruger 22s.
>>

>>
>>30515384
Glocks are the best

You can shoot them, or toss them as explosives
>>

don't you have to disassemble the slide itself when cleaning a Glock though? that doesn't sound easier
>>
>>30520253
Lol you only take apart a gun on rare occasions for a deep cleaning. Generally you slide a patch down the barrel a few times, lubricate moving surfaces, and wipe down the exterior with an oily rag.
>>
get a Sphinx.
>>
>>30520253
Striker slides break down in about 10 seconds without any tools. It's much easier to clean and lube with the barrel out of the slide. You don't actually tear down the firing mechanisms unless you have a problem.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

What kind of features do you want in a gun? If you want basic, go with glock or s&w m&p. If you want basic+unnecessary safety, get a Ruger SR9 or Springfield XD. Steyr pistols are as simple as glocks but are cooler. Beretta, CZ, HK, and Sig are all good guns. But just so you know, getting a Sig, HK, or Sphinx over a Glock won't make you a better shot even though you paid more. So my advice is just get what you really want. The gun you want the most is going to be the gun you will want to go out and shoot. But if you get something you may not like at the recommendation of someone else it will probably gather dust.

Not that I'm trying to talk you out of the glock, they're good guns. I just think you'd have a lot more fun with a full sized full steel pistol if it's just gonna be a range gun.
