Daewoo is a large manufacturer that makes just about everything.
It was founded when South Korea was just starting to industrialize, and along with Hyundai, LG, and Samsung, it controls just about all manufacturing whatsoever in the country.
So when the Korean military needed a homegrown rifle to replace the M16, they had to choose a company with a lot of machinery.

In regard to the military stuff, yes. Iraq, Mexico, and a few other places bought K2s, and a handful of other countries bought K1s as well.
As far as I know, nobody imports them anymore, but there are civilian K2s (DR200, i think?) floating around still.

Nailed it. Daewoo makes a shit ton of things. Guns, cars, cargo ships, electronics. I'm not sure if it's still the case but Daewoo motors was owned by GM for a time. When I was in Korea in 04/05 all of the dealerships said "GM Daewoo" on the signs. Daewoo even sold cars in the US for about 5 years. It is really a massive conglomerate.
