It was useless at the time. It also didn't handle the non-standardized ammunition well, which contributed to the problem. It was favored by snipers for its accuracy but the average soldier found the constant jamming and the fact that putting it back together with a small mistake meant that the bolt flew back and put your eye out a tad inconvenient. It simply wasn't a good wartime weapon and was in fact considered so fucking terrible that the Canadian soldiers to whom it was issued usually ditched it immediately in favor of the more reliable Enfield rifles that took the same ammunition but didn't stop firing at the worst possible time. Accuracy, range and power don't mean shit when you can't get thay pretty little .303 slug down the bore to begin with.

The shit rebounded like it did in the first strikes and then differently in the second set of "correct" strikes not because of his followthrough or lack thereof, but because of where on the weapon he contacted the dummy. Notice in the first strikes, he hits the dummy with more than half of the striking portion of the chucks. Then with the later strikes, he uses only the very end. This changes the point of rotation and reduces the rotational velocity imparted to the chucks.

Vastly exaggerated problem:
1) Grunts weren't supposed to take the bolt apart on their own.
2) When improperly assembled, it's extremely obvious that it is because the gun won't close properly and a quick glance at the now partially exposed lugs tells you that it is (as well as tactile feeling)
3) There's enough support still that the bolt actually will probably not break free of the frame when fired in this state

Excellent for it's time and remained in use for decades on account of being good enough. It was basically a much better take on the concept of the BAR
High capacity drums were eventually put in place to better facilitate sustained fire and cover fire, the Bren also featured a quick change barrel system which the American BAR never had.

They were good, ammo and magazines were dogshit, no cleaning supplies or cleaning procedure. Any other rifle would have failed under these conditions.
Put a new buffer in an XM16E1, and feed it modern M855 ball through current aluminum mags and PMags and it'll run like a charm.
The M16A1 had solved near all problems and new rules and supplies were mostly in place to go with it. The A1 also featured a cleaning kit in the stock and was supplied with instructions on it's use.

Yeah but its not JUST because of self defense. Again, i am not the most well versed in blunt weapons since my martial arts master would mostly teach me hand to hand combat.
A small wooden stick can do a lot of damage, maybe slightly less than a nunchuck, but there is virtually no way that it fucks you over due to being dumb. Once you get good with a stick, you can do some serious damage if you know how to hit.
He also teached me some light Bo stick techniques. Not many, just the very basics, but once you get the hang of it its easily a really good weapon.

But if we have to pair an expert in the bo stick against an expert with the nunchucks, the Bo stick user would win just because of the range. I can hit some one in sparring with a stick on a chain. I can shoot a target at the range. If I have said stick and need to hit a target with said stick I will. If I had gun next to said stick I'd pick the gun. But if i only had said stick I'd use them over some random object ive never used before to strike someone. So 3 year old level for you training + sticks (or) training + gun= training +gun.

I do agree that nunchucks are too hard to learn, but someone who DOES spend the time to learn them will seriously wreck serious shit. Someone who knows how to use them will:
1- know how to keep them always in motion
2- will not let you see where he keeps them, so you cant really be ready against an attack from X side
3- his motion of the nunchucks gives him a lot of vectors of attack against several parts of your body that change in fractions of a second
4- depending on his weapon, they can fuck you up.
I trained with a rubber one, my martials arts teacher had a big wide wood one, a ceramic one, and i know that there are metallic ones.
