Do you find many western Europeans in the US military?
I'm getting an internship for a whole year in Georgia which may lead to a full time position within the company afterwards which will give me permanent residency.
Basically I'd like to earn my citizenship through military service.

Nope. But I would have liked to encounter them. The only foreign nationals I met were Mexican, Canadian and one character from the UK.
You only tend to find people who have tenuous links to the USA enough to have residence. So a shitload of Mexicans.
