What are some good guns to consider getting for possible future disaster prepping?
Considering Yellowstone has a considerably high chance of erupting any time within the next few decades, a volcanic winter across the whole country while not probable, it is completely possible.
I cant imagine AR style rifles or other more complicated modern rifles would hold up well.

do you have any idea how an ar works
>>30472858
its like 30,000 years overdue for a major eruption
>>30472858
I think the numbers were around 10% chance within the next 80 years, while not big enough for immediate panic its still worth thinking about.

A lot of small precise parts that would be worn down very quickly by the corrosive volcanic ash, acid rain and snow mixed with the corrosive ash.

>what is a dust cover
do you have any idea how well protected the innards of an AR are from the elements

m8, if yellowstone supererupts, guns will not be the issue
read The Road, it sets a pretty good showing of how fucked things would be

I think you underestimate how corrosive volcanic ash really is, especially when mixed with water.
>>30473129
at that point i think you might have more to worry about besides if you have a gun or not

I know anyone who doesnt live in the south east would be immediately fucked, but you would need guns to hunt what animals are left if you dont get evacuated in time since the highly corrosive ash and gases in the atmosphere would make air travel impossible.

you'll be ok if you have full body covering and something to keep ash or ash water out of your mouth and eyes, but the precision machined parts of your favorite AR 15 or other modern sports rifle arent going to hold up well, you would need something with bulkier parts that can handle it easier.
Even if you take out the corrosive ash the AR 15 and other modern rifles perform poorly in cold weather, which is why the Canadian Rangers arctic reserve used Enfields as their standard rifle until at least 2012.

you'd want a gun with large parts
AK comes to mind simply because of huge bearing surfaces on all parts
>>30473658
A bolt gun wouldn't be good because of the sear
If that wore out, it'd be done
If yellowstone goes big, its game over. If you live in the far south, you might get to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R for a few months but the ash cloud will change global climate and most likely kill off 90% of earths food supply
the resulting panic/riots/food wars will do the rest
then again yellowstone will probably just have a small eruption to let off pressure and go back to being stable

I just wish that the rest of the world was like Japan in the sense of when a huge natural disaster happens everyone comes out to help anyone in need, even the damn Yakuza, but everywhere else and especially here here in the states everyone has a "me first" mentality which leads to riots and violence.

it's because of the niffers

My Wife's Japanese, and having spent a little time in Japan, this is amazing to see.
The Govt issues adequate resouces, and people stick within the allowances. If individuals save a little and have excess, they share.
I'm not aware of any group of 500 randoms who could coexist in a local school gym for 2 months and not strangle each other.
It was interesting on Jap TV during the Tsunami/fallout scare in 2010. All product ads were cancelled on most stations, as the companies were ashamed to peddle wares at the time. Only AC Community service / NGO ads remained.
Inb4 weeb - find anoth group who could pull this off and remain civilised.
