The Management is pushing rollbacks on wages and a bunch of other shit, the union is unhappy and they can't make a deal... so the workers will (probably) be locked out as of the 2nd. I actually missed the 3pm deadline to overnight my paperwork by like five fucking minutes, I almost made it.

I wholeheartedly agree. We have the same problem with the Teachers Union. I'm sick of being held hostage by these fags reaching into my wallet.

To keep this /k/ related though..

If you were going to buy one pistol and one bolt action rifle good for target shooting and maybe killing deer if you didn't suck at hitting paper targets, and you had ~$2k to spend, what would you get?

I handled a lot of random stuff at the course and I really liked playing with the semi-auto pistols, something really satisfying about it.
>>
>>30446925
i dunno man, do you value historical items? generally nice hunting rifles are bad target rifles, because they are very light and dont hold exceptional accuracy for long because the barrel heats up too easily.

being american, i would say the first rifle i would get as a canadian is a surplus russian SVT-40. but thats because you guys have them for $300 or so and we cant get them cheaper than $1200 here

i dont know what pistol laws are like there, but its hard to go wrong with a 9mm glock

bolt action rifle...how about looking at surplus british enfields? .303 should still be pretty easy to get up there right? not exactly a light hunting rifle, but plenty accurate and 10 round magazine as opposed to a lot of modern hunting rifles which only hold 5
>>
>>30446826
same thing we strike about here in the states. they want to kill pensions.
>>
>>30446925
>>30447004
maybe a nice compromise between target and hunting rifle from the factory is something like a savage 10 in .308. usually gets about 1 inch groups or less at 100yrds straight out of the box, nice adjustable trigger. and you can trick them out to look tactical. they are usually only around $5-600 too, so pretty affordable. at least over here, not sure how much they go for there since they are US made rifles.

>generally nice hunting rifles are bad target rifles, because they are very light and dont hold exceptional accuracy for long because the barrel heats up too easily

I hadn't thought about that, makes sense. I guess I could always get something else later if I decide to start hunting. I want something that's going to be accurate so I can learn to hit targets and have fun at the range. I haven't decided if I'm too much of a pussy to kill a deer. I don't have any qualms about hunting birds, but that adds a shotgun into the mix I assume.

I've noticed a lot of the rifles available online have cheap looking plastic stocks. I know this is autistic but I'd prefer something made of wood if possible.

I'm not really sure what's available as I'm very new to this, but I will look into that stuff. Thanks for the tips anon.

Pistol magazines are limited to 10 rounds but other than that I'm not aware of any really restrictive regulations. I did handle a Glock 9mm and it felt nice. Also a Smith & Wesson 9mm that looked like pic related. I liked the way it felt.

>>30447039

Is this the one you're talking about? $899 CAD so not far off.

>>
>>30447086
used cop 59 series is one of the best bargains out there and will last until the heat death of the universe.
>>
>>30447123

The instructor (former RCMP obviously) did refer to it as a "cop gun" and said it was easy to use if you had bloody hands. Kind of grim but a good endorsement I guess.
>>
>>30447086
>http://www.cabelas.ca/product/75922/savage-arms-10fcp-sr-tactical-bolt-action-rifle
yeah thats the one, read up about them they have great reviews. i just price checked the cabelas in US and they sell for $699 here, i think this model is maybe a bit fancier

not sure how new to shooting you are, but generally, heavier barrels will be less prone to accuracy being affected by temperature. if you shoot a few high velocity rifle rounds in quick succession, the barrel can heat up fast. thicker barrels allow you more shots before temperature is increased, and also stay stiffer when hotter. they take longer to cool down though.

that old S&W is a nice pistol, long since discontinued but they have a reputation of being sturdy and durable. biggest complaint is the safety on the slide, like a beretta. you have to practice proper loading to prevent accidentally engaging the safety when racking the slide. in a combat pistol, that can be a key consideration. in a target pistol, its not really important because your life isnt on the line if you dont shoot the round off immediately and have to flick off the safety
>>
do you have limits on how many rifles you can have? if not, maybe get a 22 rimfire as your first rifle. its hard to beat the fun and economy of a little 22 for target shooting
>>
>>30446878
I recommend stopping by Houston in the autumn or winter. Coming by in the next few months will probably melt you
>>
>>30447191
and they are usually cheap, less than a couple hundred bucks. lots of times exempt from laws too, because they use a tiny caliber that isnt seen as "military". here in california for instance, .22s are exempt from our "assault weapon laws" which restrict detachable magazine rifles with folding stocks and pistol grips, etc
>>
>>30446797
Is it possible to drive there and deliver it yourself?
>>
>>30447191
Only limit is money, though people get a little jumpy around and past the 100 mark, guy had something like 140 guns, people got concerned and ERU hit his house, turns out he was an honest business man. Whoops.
>>
>>30447295
well you can get a nice little collection for a lot less than $2,000! just depends on what you want

i highly recommend getting a cheap .22 rifle though, it is an essential in any collection

can you have semi auto 22 rifles?

something like this is a must have for anyone getting into shooting: http://www.basspro.com/Marlin-60-Rifle/product/10217878/

i have higher caliber rifles but tend to still shoot my 22 the most. doesnt hurt your shoulder, can shoot it for hours, cheap bullets so easy on the wallet, which equals more practice and better marksmanship skills

these can be had for $250-$400

what about an SKS? shoots a nice cheap round, you can get full russian ones in canada for dirt cheap, again in the US these are like a $500-$800 rifle because of our bans on russian imports

savage does make good cheap .22s, so does marlin. ruger is a little more but also equally good.

sks have 10 round fixed internal magazine, so im guessing these canadian versions have some sort of block in them?https://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/product.jsp?productid=85529

either way, 7.62x39 is cheap, and the SKS is a decently accurate rifle and basically bomb proof. cheap and highly reliable and recommend for a new guns

No but anything over 25 non-restricted guns (most rifles and shotguns), or a single restricted gun (mostly handguns or AR-15s) mean police don't need a warrant to search your house which is total bullshit. The good news is that shotguns and rifles aren't registered anymore so noone can prove you have more than 25 if you only own non-restricted stuff.
>>
>>30448240

Do you know what you got wrong? How long did it take to get your license?

I was nervous, I thought I was going to fuck it up. I felt like I wasn't absorbing all the information after a few hours.
>>
>>30448334

Interesting, thanks for the info anon! I hope the mail isn't held up for too fucking long and it comes soon. I'd like to get to a range for the first time before winter.

>>30448405

Interesting, I didn't know that. I plan on getting a safe and doing everything legit, but I'd still rather not have the cops popping by to snoop around. I've never even had a speeding ticket.

I also learned that if you report that you feel unsafe about your spouse having guns (or anyone I presume) they roll up in black Suburbans and take them away immediately and then investigate. I was told that's the only time they don't need a warrant.
>>
>>30448590
I don't know what I got wrong, I don't really care though only wanted to get it done

Wish I could help you, but I haven't applied yet. I don't think I'll be getting my license until 2020 because the PAL application form requires that I involve my psychiatrist because I had a depression diagnosis in 2014. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I have a feeling he could say something that would prevent me from ever getting a license
>>
>>30448405
Maybe you should go learn about the laws.
RCMP always need a warrant or probable cause. Firearms officers under the jurisdiction of the CFO can schedule an appointment to inspect your papers and storage if you are a collector or have more than 10 restricted firearms.
>>
>>30446878
>>30446908

Any impotent asswad who votes for either of those jackasses deserves a large, rusty, metal pipe up the pooper.

Our forefathers didn't identify as Liberal, or Convservative, or Progressive. They were Libertarians. They believed in the right to make their own choices free of government oppression (aka, laws). It's time that this country returned to its Libertarian roots.

You think you're free? Tell me about this freedom exercised when you applied for and paid for a permit to own a firearm. Or when you had to take a CCDW class. Tell me about that freedom you have when you are required to partake in state and/or federally mandated education, registration, and taxation in order to have your privileges like driving and the such. Tell yourself that you're free while Uncle Sam takes his cuts directly from your pay check before you ever see a dime (payroll taxes are actually unconstitutional - look it up).

Government is supposed to be comprised of and run by the people, not full time politicians. If you vote for Trump ONLY due to "muh guns", you're an idiot. He's famous for flip flopping. You think he cares about "the people"? If so you're an idiot.
>>
>>30448627
One useful fact, if you're under a temporary (or permanent) firearm ban, the guns do NOT have to go to the police. You can lend them to a trusted friend with a PAL or have a gunstore store them for a small fee. The only stipulation is that you do not get access to them until the ban is lifted. This can even happen after the popo has confiscated them.

Because of rule .303

Most of you common wealth chaps have to reload anyways so no excuse about .303 ammo.

pistol? Probably something more modern. Not sure of your used dbl action revolver market in the Queendom but If i couldn't get cheap ass prelocks or nice colts revovlers would probably just get a modern semi auto in a modern caliber.
>>
>>30448681
Ah, I knew I bungled the specifics, thank you for the correction. But it's more than 10 firearms of any type, not just restricted. See here:

Subject to section 104, for the purpose of ensuring compliance with this Act and the regulations, an inspector may at any reasonable time enter and inspect any place where the inspector believes on reasonable grounds a business is being carried on or there is a record of a business, any place in which the inspector believes on reasonable grounds there is a gun collection or a record in relation to a gun collection or any place in which the inspector believes on reasonable grounds there is a prohibited firearm or there are more than 10 firearms...

No mention of restricted. Text found here:
http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/F%2D11.6/page-11.html#h-39
>>
>>30448679

Ahh I see. That sucks man. FWIW the instructor talked openly about how he had to see a shrink after being shot at and having to shoot people, etc, and how stuff like that isn't game over for getting licensed. Obviously you know your situation better though, hope you're well and are able to get it all sorted. My old man disclosed that he had depression when he got his years ago, and the cops grilled him about being a suicide risk. He said he'd never do that to his family (and he wouldn't.) and was approved.

>>30448703

As a Canadian from a rural Canada I can explain to you the deal with canadian firearms(in the central west). People here have owned used and not givin a fuck about guns since the 20's. the old timers think new laws are dumb.

I know older guys (adults pre 90s) who own several long guns they will never care to get registered, farmers that dont even own gun safes and keep shotguns near their doors.

I thought until I went on /k/ magazine regs where a joke because I shot buddys bannana clip 100 round 22. mag when I was 12. I have played as a young child with a 45. cowboy pistol, a beretta of sorts, and multiple long guns, with and without parent permission, held in closets, and unlocked safes with ammunition inside. That is the culture of rural canada. My cousins from the country got their "license" in gr 8. Hicks and rednecks, and oldtimers, and anyone not from the city, doesnt apply to these rules.

I work with farm kids who drive into the city with loaded guns under their backseat. hell in kindergarten me and my friends would hang with this janitor, and one time while grabbing tools from his car I noticed a rifle under his truck seat, and he said it was for gophers on his drive home, neither me or my buddy batted a eye at this because we knew what was up. at 5 years old in the middle of a city.

Now shit in the citys getting gay, and its because of you fucking amerifags and your cuck corporations (cabelas) and fags like trudeu wrecking everthing for people who actually understand the culture of firearms. Fucking neckbeard faggots
>>
>>30450318
Wrong on that last point. Even in the city people think mag regs are jokes, know the loopholes, and don't bother with pinning. anyone with a gun will gladly tell you that they just remove the pins to go anywhere that isn't specifically a range, or have something with a non-detachable magazine with a higher capacity.

Even in rural areas where they're easily avoided, everyone hates them. Anytime anyone wants to use resources or actually do something with the land, it is conveniently "sacred tribal land" or some bullshit- a.k.a. usable for a price.

You should have seen the shitshow when seemingly every bit of surface water was traditional tribal land during the drought and the farms wanted to use it for irrigation.

there's a pin in the magazine that prevents it from depressing past 5 rounds. most people just remove them, or get weapons that don't use STANAG mags (because it only applies to REPLACEABLE magazines, so basically anything that requires tools to remove the mag, however simple, can just be refitted with something that holds more than 5. ofc, anything that naturally takes more than 5 and can't easily be retooled is also fine, like Enfields with their 8 round en-blocs)

>>30450678
ill take your word for it
f u c k n a t i v e s
>>
>>30450677
we can have any AR magazine but they are pinned to 5, though we used to be able to own .50 beowulf mags that held eleven .223 rounds I believe

OP get a 1911. naturally only 7 round capacity, so you dont feel cucked for only having 10 rounds in a 15+ capable gun
>>
>>30450463
you are technically licensed and are allowed to buy the gun

you just can't possess it without the card

the court documents I've read suggest that in general judges are pretty based in this country
