How viable would this thing be in combat?
Also, retrofuture thread I guess.
>>30443647
I honestly don't even know.
I feel like the Freedom Bus would be very effective based on sheer confusion and terror alone, but once you figured out what to do it may become a non-issue. Also a tank would turn that into an actual tin can filled with human paste.
Everything this bus does a tank does 100x better.

What's not to love about a soft skinned wheeled motor carriage with no protection?

That's dumb.

I could see it working in some kind of Mad Max scenario where it's all small arms combat and the occasional vehicular manslaughter.

It drops bombs?
If it was built off of the everything from a duece and a half it would be fucking awesome. Drop down steel plates from front windows, turret bubble on top, m1919 every other window with a partner in between. It could work with some expansion.
>>30443647
This better be a fucking joke... It's like those dipshit zombie flicks where they weld shit to a fucking bus for a "ultimate getaway vehicle"

Because of this video I was thinking that I need to play more missions in Arma 2 than I already do. Usually I play wasteland. Then I realized that this is a five year old video. I feel l've missed out on so much. My computer runs Arma 3, but not as well as other computers. I feel so lost.
>>30443647
Just imagine if we did this shit with the MRAP. It is big enough, already has am MG turret, it fucking armored out the ass, is built for modern combat, has the crew was capacity.
Why isn't this a thing already?
>>30445943
I'm guessing because the casualties would far outweigh the usefulness of this slow-moving RPG magnet. I'm sure everybody would be having a good time riding it until they got smeared all over the flaming bus and desert road.
This is a serious reply to a post that was probably mostly joking. I need less beer.

For anything besides rear echelon movement, its retarded.

I'm not talking about just a gun truck. I'm talking a fully enclosed driving fortress bristling with medium machine guns.

>>30447389
I've never understood the walking vehicle obsession. We have roads absolutely everywhere on the globe, and where there aren't, all-terrain vehicles can find a way. Legs give an even easier failure point.
>>30447465
I like mecha but I think it's more reasonable to assume that powered exoskeletons will be walking combat units of the future.
Here's a lovely little tank.
>>30447265
nice idea but they simply be zeroed in by artillery
>>30447524
True, but what about if they had super armor like this awesome weapon of war?!
>>30447549
I...Is there a reason we don't do this for APC's?
Nothing can stand up to this weapon!
>>30447592
Presumably because it's shit against modern anti-tank weapons.
>>30447389
Metal gear?
>>30447545
I'm not sure about that placement of the exhaust vent. It seems like any shell the struck the side would end up piercing the vent and flooding the engines.
>>30447592
this >>30447624 and the realization that sloped armor is a meme.
think they use some kind of composite now.
>>30447592
the only thing I can think of is, depending on the angles of the corrugation it effectly doubles the amount of metal needed and might over complicate production. Idk i'm just spit ballin'.

this shit could actually work at least for sf and paratroopers, having a birgade of troops appear through terrain that should be impassible is a pretty big advantage
>>30447563
This one's a bit more what you'd expect.
Does anyone have the "combat testicles armored vehicles" from the best of /k/ threads?
IIRC this one was completely made up.
>>30447697
This is actually one of the more "viable" things that's here.
Ye Olde Raile Gunne
>>30447283
The answer is it's more cost effective to dig out a foxhole or use sandbags to dig in rather than manufacture/haul these moving targets around.
If you're too dumb to see this you're too dumb
>>30447951
It's kind of surprising that we're only just now putting this to use.
>>30448143
Well yeah, a lot of these are fancy nonsense or people correctly coming up with an idea that might be sensible but exaggerating it to the point of overdoing it.
>>30448167
materials science wasn't there, components not efficient enough, too much friction killed barrels.

Panzer magnet, land mine magnet, bomber magnet.
>>30448167
>It's kind of surprising that we're only just now putting this to use.
Not really.
The ideas for many weapons are extremely old, it just takes a certain level of technology to realize them.
The ultimate bomber!

>>30447933
Russians fielded these in the winter war against finland. using T-26 tanks with flamethrowers so you didn't have to really aim rather the controlling tank guided them in then signaled the teletank to arc in gouts of flame.
>>30447662
>it effectly doubles the amount of metal needed
I mean, this armor is retarded, but do you really think that the DoD would be like "Well, the armor works, but fuck it, we have to spend a little more on this vehicle, so nevermind"?
>>30447731

Seems like it could basically be a very large APC with poor off-road mobility. Could be useful for moving troops around on roads in rear areas where there is some possibility of ambush. And there's no reason why it couldn't be armored to resist small arms, and that's all APCs are generally resistant to anyway. Saying it would be wrecked by a tank isn't really a flaw, since pretty much anything that isn't a tank is vulnerable to tanks as well.
>>30446168
Tosses them out the sides/rear
>>30445978
With enough slat armor (which can potentially be very lightweight, with the right materials) RPGs would basically become a non-issue.
>>30448383
No matter how tiny the plane is, the bomb is still 2 tons, and that's about four times the weight of the typical dirigible-launched fighter. The USS Los Angeles (which the airship pictured here appears to be) could only carry one such fighter; the Akron and Macon could carry 4-5, which is to say they could probably carry one of these planes and a single 4,000 bomb. Also, 25,000 feet is pushing it - WWI dirigibles did reach that kind of altitude, but only after losing all ballast, payload and most of their fuel. One carrying planes almost certainly couldn't get that high (especially considering the Americans used helium).
It would probably be more practical to use radio-controlled torpedoes dropped with parachutes. Or simply use dirigibles for what they're good at (reconaissance) and leave strike missions to aircraft based off of normal carriers.
>>30443681
Idk man, depends if it's actually uparmored or simply painted green and filled with dudes. It may be like shooting a sheet, just passing through
>>30447731
Speed so amazing and impressive that it would be like a RTS game. It would get destroyed by enemy construction / engineer units walking along side it, taking it apart bolt by bolt.
>>30448746
Project Horizon was a seriously-considered plan to build a military moon base in the '50s, never underestimate Cold War insanity. These were the people who nearly put Project Pluto SLAMs into production, and developed shit that's still beyond classified today (Casaba-Howitzer, SDI bomb-pumped laser weapons, etc).
