Alright lads, after a couple week break, I'm back. Today I have a special treat, live tests of the flamethrower, conducted this morning. WEBM on the way.

So when can we expect you at the Calais jungle?

Fucking awesome

This place looks familiar. Is it in northern Illinois?
>>

maybe

NICE
>>
>>30414648
have you tried increasing the viscosity of the diesel by using additives?

>>30414648
i thought flamethrowers had a much longer range
>>
>>30414978
they do if you can make napalm and squirt it out of a hose
>>
>>30414978
That's when using napalm and napalm like materials. The viscous fuels are able to be propelled further and burn longer.
>>
>>30414933
Where at?
>>
>>30414967
Not yet. Soon
>>30414978
Nozzle is too turbulent and seems to be atomizing the fuel too much toward the end of the stream. Redesigning later for more laminar flow. Increasing viscosity should help too.
Also the film angle makes it look shorter than it really was. That first burst was about 15 yards or so based on it being more than twice as long as my truck.
>>
>>30415017
Somewhere in Barrington area. Not giving any more details since I'm not sure if I was trespassing or not
>>
>>30415020
a stop gap would be to cool the diesel before firing to increase the viscosity.
>>
>>30415020
Last thread I posted the blueprint for the M2 wand. with the tapered rod end it's almost perfectly laminar and needs the atomizer hole to be able to be lit.

Remember, OP.

Gas + Polystyrene + Acetone = fun
>>
>>30415088
It was hot as fuck today. I just need to figure out how to put four gallons of diesel in the fridge without pissing anyone off
>>30415089
I saved it. Unfortunately no lathe available so I'm gonna have to sort of improvise something
>>
>>30415133
I've done the gas/polystyrene mix 100 times, I use it as fire starter.
What does acetone do to the mix to make it fun?
>>
>>30415042
i hope you at least did this in the part of barrington that isn't in crook county.
>>
>>30415158
It dissolves the polystyrene so you get more of a gel and less of a colloid.
>>
>>30415120
No one was there but me and it was pretty far from the street. Still though, I bugged out pretty fast when I finished filming.

I looked for dirt fields but they are hard to find in the asphalt jungle of suburban chicago
>>
>>30415133
This nigga knows what is up. I have always made in small batches but have always wanted to buy a 55 gallon drum, fill it with 95/5 gas/acetone and put all the styrofoam I ever get into it.
>>
>>30415174
Interesting, might try that and add it to the couple gallons I have on hand to soften them up a bit... after I look it up because this is 4chan after all.
>>
>>30415164
Um....
>>
>>30415202
mix acetone with an oxidizer to get high explosives
>>
>>30415208
Not interested, I just wouldn't mind my fire starter being more pliable and easier to wrap around a stick so I can light it and throw it onto whatever I want burnt.
>>
>>30415202
Military mix for Napalm B was 40% gas, 10% benzene, and the rest styrene.
>>
>>30415232
>10% benzene
sounds extra toxic for no good reason
>>
>>30415226
I was partly warning partly recommending doing it. I know some of you fuckers have had the great idea to make your fire starting more reliable by introducing some kind of peroxide to the drink.
>>
>>30415239
well its a flamethrower, not exactly using it to cure cancer here

Welcome to the good ol' days of weaponized chemistry.
>>
>>30415239
Benzene was the solvent.

I've heard that you can use acetone or toluene to take its place.
>>
>>30415089
Would you be able to repost the blueprint? I am interested. Thanks anon.
>>
>>30415145
dry ice and a cooler/garbage bag
>>
Well lads I have a 5 am tee time tomorrow so I'm off to bed. Keep this bumped and I'll answer all questions in the morning. Or don't. Whatever
>>
I wonder if introducing an antioxidant would negatively effect the burning. It would certainly make it safer.
>>
>>30415483
if he makes the nozzle a small enough diameter or puts a fine enough mesh in it that will prevent the possibility of flashback.
>>
What if you had a garden hose intersecting the flamethrower?
Would the water make the oil spread and form globules and more fire, like how you're not supposed to put water on greasefires?

fire extinguisher flamethrower conversion kit + tutorial when?
>>
Now that I think about it you should be able to get a more stable flow by storing the diesel in a bladder and using the CO2 to create pressure on it. The trigger would be hooked to two valves: one between the diesel bladder and the nozzle and another between the external CO2 tank and the diesel storage container.
the strength of the fluid stream would weaken slowly but the CO2 wouldn't cause turbulence to the diesel.

2nd'd.

No better way to burn some mutherfucker's post box when you're young, edgy, and they probably didn't deserve it.
>>
>>30414978
As others have jumped in they do. The m2 had a range of ~50m. The typical propane only flamethrower gets around 20ft. If I was to do this I would use the 3 tank designs. They look safer and more reliable, and I'd look for good dispersal unit designs using the propane and an electric lighter.
>>
>>30418910
I was thinking of making styrene based napalm and then thinning it with diesel till I hit a viscosity sweet spot.

Diesel because it's cheaper than gasoline in Illinois, because it's a decent lubricant, and because it makes that delicious sooty black smoke

ABS dissolves in acetone, I have a mason jar of sludge right now for my next fun batch of fixing delamination issues.
PLA would melt from the heat.
ABS would do fine then fail, then seal (It expands when combusting), then burn and explode.

Now there are plastic metal composite filaments, but the plastic matrix is still an issue.
OTOH, science is never done by grabbing your dick and saying something shit when you can set stuff on fire, explode it, or in other ways cause an exothermic event.

So somebody should test this, and collect money for filament.

If you want to make the flamethrower go farther, you need a thickening agent. My grandpa worked for DOW in the 60's and 70's, and would make napalm for personal use on the weekend, usually to make little flame traps for pests.

Anyway, he swore by a mixture of 2/3 diesel, 1/3 polyethelene (plastic thickening agent, you can get it from styrofoam plates). Stir it with all up in a metal tub, then let it set for a while. Come back, dump the tub down a hillside or something, and BAM, instant fourth of July.

He also showed me how to make ANFO by mixing diesel with loose ammonia pellets from fertilizer, and again adding some polyethelene to thicken it. You should end up with a rich slurry that smells like cat piss and diesel fuel, and has the consistency of marshmallow paste. You need blasting caps to actually detonate it, or you can cheat with firecrackers or model rocket engines. Be wary of ANFO, it looks cool, but it actually has a really low brisance, so it will just kind of make a big THUMP and move a bunch of dirt, instead of making a huge explosion.

>not sure if trespassing or not

Yeah no I'm sure testing a homemade flamethrower is totally cool in someone's parking lot.

Cool as hell op
>>
>>30424521
I'm gonna have to experiment a lot with these. But I want to make a base from gasoline, toluene, and styrene and then thin it with various solvents from there so that it is thin enough to pump efficiently but thick enough to form a stream
