I've got a place. I have the coordinates saved to a shit GPS I got at a yard sale, it will get me close enough then I remember what the area looked like. And yes, it is in a nature preserve. Quite a sizeable one near me.
I have a couple 40mm ammo cans I have completely sealed with that flex seal stuff. They are totally water tight and with everything being coated I assume that they shouldn't rust. I have some really big desiccant packs in with them too. It's contents is not for you to know.
Also the Dale Gribble within me is getting really fucking on edge. Like about to eat a pack of cigs and rush out the window kabar in hand.

Lock welded onto the box would be best. I just know the area well enough to know no one will ever go out there. I can almost guarantee that I have been the only human out there in 60+ years. I have rock in my area, I can't dig deeper than would be practical with an entrenching tool. If you have stuff you need really deep then look for a small rock outcrop or fallen tree, but then if someone is looking for something you have buried it makes it pretty obvious.
Welding a lock onto an ammo box would be easy as shit. or using a steel cable and wrapping it, or plenty of easier ways for tamper. But I have mine innawoods so I can just cover it in leaves so the dig site isn't obvious, and a depression from the dirt collapsing isn't anything unusual innawoods. If anyone goes out there it would take work to find. I intentionally choose a spot that has some logical spots for hiding it I have ignored so that the area may be over looked as the best spots aren't used.

That is why I said small. If you have a truck to drag it with, or a trailer with winch all you need is a shovel and pickaxe and you should be good. Dig a good square hole and rig up some ropes to the container, shove it back till the weight is on the ropes and back up as it tilts and falls through. Pile up as much dirt as possible and use some long 2x4s to reinforce the sides of the container. Built some kind of seal on the door and weld or seal the bottom one. Put in wood planks on the bottom and build shelves up the entire hight of it. Ladder on the side for access to all the shelves.

Don't do shipping containers. If you have a lot to hide, get a plastic septic tank. Those are designed to be buried.
If you don't quite have that much, use plastic pickle barrels. No metal parts on those, so corrosion isn't an issue.

What you want is to ge like 120mm pipe and endcaps that seal up well. Then pack your stored items with grease. Like literally fill them with it.
Some items cant be filled with grease i.e ammo. These should be zip locked bags in zip lock bags with some of those silicon dehumidifiers thrown in.
Get some large vacuum and throw everything in those before putting them in the pvc tubes. Fill the tubes with grease and silicon seal around the eendcaps
For people that own their own rural properties then thats the best place to bury.
For cityfags most places here at least have large national parks within a couple of hours drive. Find a super remote place and bury it deep.
