How do Coast Guard DOG (MSRT, MSST, TACLET, PSU) operators compare in skill level and competence to operators in other branches? How often do these guys see combat and where outside of the Western Hemisphere are these guys most likely operating these days?
>>30400585
Do these units have Officers? How does one join these units as an officer?
>>30400756
USCGA
>>30400806
and OCS of course right? Like what trajectory does their career have to take for them to make it into these units? What is their rate supposed to be? How much time do they have to put in before being assigned to these units? Do they compete for it? Or are they just picked up for it?
>>30400585
in terms of /out/ operating they are probably the best.
/in before USN
//Halsey getting BTFO by a typhoon
>>30400874
hahaahaha. What makes you say this?
>>30400763
High endurance cutters are pretty neat.
>>30400840
You can service select DSF out of USCGA and you get to skip OCS. Then you go through whatever screening process to actually get in to whichever part of DSF they want you in. But USCGA takes 4 years and is hard as shit to get in to.
>>30400931
>>30400840
And you have to be under 23
>>30400756
Academy or OCS.
>>30400874
>in terms of /out/ operating they are probably the best.
But they don't even operate /out/
>>30400914
what makes them neat? How exactly are they high endurance?
>>30400931
>>30400939
I meant how does an officer join these DOG units not the Coast Guard academy. I cant imagine every officer who joins a DOG unit is under 23 at the time they join.
>>30400985
I know fuck all about Coast Guard OCS, but if its similar to any other branch OCS you only get to select your service if you're the very top of your class.
I have friends in the SEAL teams and they say Coast Guard SOF are just as good as SEALs.
>>30400914
They're old. Way past due for replacement. I don't think the Bertholf class is a good replacement for the 378s. If anything, the LCS designs that the Navy is dicking around with would be perfect for CG missions.
>>30401012
interesting. Do they say anything beyond that? Or just their overall competence? Is there anything they described coast guard SOF as being better at than SEAL teams?
>>30401089
I must say, hitting an outboard motor with a barret, rested on a rope, and all from a helicopter is pretty based.
>>30401077
SEALs and Coast Guard SOF are interchangeable since they go through the same training. This is why they allow the Coast Guard to go through BUD/S. They work together a lot overseas. When a SEAL team is short on manpower, they can ask any the Coast Guard for some men to fill any positions on a SEAL team. They see just as much combat as anyone in JSOC.
>>30401142
What... I have literally never read any of this anywhere. They definitely dont go through the same training. Guys in DOG never went through BUDs. I am aware there was a program where coast guard guys could join seal teams at one point. But beyond that I have never heard any of this.
>>30401172
SOF of all branches receive pretty much the same training. SEALs and Coast Guard SOF in particular go through almost the exact same training. People in the Coast Guard don't write books so you won't hear about it. Unless you have friends in the service or you do it yourself, you won't really know.
>>30401231
So these would be predominantly MSRT guys that they speak of?
>>30401252
I'm not sure. My friends said they were "the special forces of the Coast Guard".
Why do these threads keep popping up? CG DOG doesn't even exist any more, you faggots.
>Formerly headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, it was established on 20 July 2007, and was commanded by a captain and was decommissioned by the Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Robert Papp on 1 October 2013.

>>30401270
hmmm
>>30401297
Right, but all of the units that were part of it still do. SO perhaps saying "former DOG" units would work better or something
>>30401304
Maybe but people are talking about it as if the unit still exists and is recruiting. It isn't. It was decomm'd almost 3 years ago. The effectiveness of DOG is 0% because they don't exist.
>>30401322
the units that were still part of it are taking members on though. no? So what is the effectiveness of the still active units that were members of the coast guard then. lol
>>30400999
>exclusively maritime operations
>using a camo pattern designed for blending in to vegetation and dirt
>not using something like MAS grey that's actually designed for what they are doing
Why?
>>30401352
Because camouflage on a boat is fucking retarded.
>>30401333
Well, seeing on how all of those units are specialized and cover different areas, some are even POG units, so the effectiveness depends on the mission.
>>30401012
Shame the CG shut down their CG to Seal program.
>>30401387
WHy did they do it in the first place and why did they shut it down?
>>30401380
ok so how about MSRT and MSST and TACLET? They all seem like they have a relatively similar job
>>30401380
>Because camouflage on a boat is fucking retarded.
That's my point. Camo on a boat is stupid. However a dark grey-green solid color that blends into shadow makes sense.
>>30401387
>>30401402
SEALs were taking away good men from the Coast Guard. It's the same reason why the USMC didn't want a SOCOM unit. The guys in the Coast Guard are top notch and they're hard to replace.
>>30401402
>WHy did they do it in the first place and why did they shut it down?
To my knowledge, they ended it because it cost the Coast Guard too much money and they really didn't get anything out of it since people who made it went to join the Seals. iirc, only ~4 people made it through BUD/s out of 30 some dudes
>>30401429
I hear this a lot. That the Coast Guard guys are top notch. In what ways? Like what in particular makes the coast guard so elite?
>>30401431
ah so it was moreso like a test run thing. it wasnt a regular thing?
Coast Guard looks bad ass.
>>30400985
They just travel farther and longer with more fuel and supplies than other CG cutters do. Theyre still outdated compared to many Navy vessels, and are really only neat because theyre the best place to get stationed (imo). As a single guy you dont get BAH on one, but theyre pretty well stocked. Often enough there will be a full gym, a sort of intranet, and non-rates are the typically only ones getting stuck doing non-rate bitchwork.
>>30401024
>USCG
>getting nicer anything
Right. Ive been hearing all sorts of hearsay, but it stays exactly that.
>>30401134
47 MLBs god tier
>>30403577
how do Officers usually live aboard cutters?
>>30403616
What makes them god tier
>>30403638
They haul ass, wont flip over, and generally have some sort of arsenal aboard that would give /k/ a four hour long hardon.
>>30403894
What kind of arsenal? Small arms mostly?
>>30401134
this boats are pretty much unsinkable right?
>>30403937
Come to think of it, it wasnt the 47 footer thats got all the crazy guns. The otherlaw enforcement smallboats had some heavy shit mounted to them. Most common is the M2 on the bow. If youve never fired a .50bmg machine gun into open water, its a helluva experience.
Ive heard rumors of belt fed 40mm grenade launchers on a few of them in district 7, but afaik theyre just rumors.
I worked on some of what i hope to be the last M60s in service, and FUCK M60s.
>>30401142
Wow. What an amazing amount of bullshit. The CG had something like 5 or 6 members complete the SEAL pipeline, out of 35 applicants.
The CG SEAL program started in 2010, and was shut down the following year.
Please don't talk about the CG anymore. You're not good at it, and you have no knowledge of the subject matter.
>>30403894
Oh, they can flip. They're self righting, just like the 44s that they replaced. Only, they remain fully functional. You flip a 44, it tends to strip the antennas. This kills the nav and comms. It can also kill 75% of the crew, if you do it enough times.
