Why did the brits issue this helmet during ww2? Other helmets were more some shaped, so why did the brits use this dinner plate thing?

What advantage did it have?
>>
>>30392143
The dyes in the machines that stamped a circular plate of steel into a helmet didn't need to be changed
>>
>>30392143
Shade
Brits fought tons in hot places like Africa or Burma, so it was important to prevent sunburn and heatstroke.

>>
>>30392165
Then why did they use it in France and Germany?
>>
>>30392169
Did they choose a paki to represent Britain? kek

That's why they attacked in the summer.
>>
>>30392183
He looks tanned like an 8th army veteran.
>>
>>30392198
Europe only gets like 85 degrees in the summer. What the fug bro
>>
>>30392212
Brits are pale gingers they get sunburned easily.
>>
Good overhead protection for trench warfare, also looks like a medieval kettle helm which was particularly popular in England.
>>
>>30392222
I am a pasty aryan in SC and I don't need a hat.
>>
>>30392181
cause it was mass produced
and would have taken more effort for no improvements
>>
>>30392256
>SC
You probably have a small amount of negro or cherokee blood in you.
>>
>>30392309
I live in SC, family moved to Michigan in 1920 times. Literally 0 chance.
>>
>>30392143
It was to offer more protection to the neck from falling debris and shrapnel. It was issued in ww2 because we had millions of them and there was nothing that offered more protection. Helmets back then all had more or less identical protection.

From my understanding it was quite comfortable too.
>>
>>30392321
You get the negro through osmosis by being in SC. Literally the blackest state ever.
>>
>>30392197
You OK?
>>
>>30392143
British Paras got more conventional helmets.

The rest were stuck with the Brodie because they already had them and already had the means to make them. Resources were already stretched thin as it was.
>>
>>30392143

British resources were in short supply, no reason to pump out new helmets when you already have a good working one.

Christ, they kept war rationing until 1954.
>>
Shitload left over
Machinery needed to make them isn't complicated
About as cheap as it gets for a helmet
Given the minimal amount of tooling to make it (no multiple stages of work and what have you) the helmet retains a lot of strength
>>
>>30392437
They kept war rationing until 1954 so they could feed the rest of Europe, including Germany, to which they were providing food aid.

Also they did design a helmet with a deeper dome called the Zuckerman, it was issued to civil defense units. The brodie helmet was replaced by the turtle helmet just prior to the D-day landings.
>>
>>30392464

Yes, their resources were in short supply.

Eh, I kinda like it, if only because of that scene at the end of Threads where they're rocking Turtle Mk.5's, OD MOPP suits and SLR's.
>>
>>30392181
why were us troops in the desert wearing woodland?
>>
>>30392573
>Except when they would scrim it like in the Falklands War

it is almost always scrimmed
>>
Off topic but where would a good place to buy a ww2 helmet be?
>Hardmode: for a porrfag
>>
>>30393687
Amazon and Ebay have military surplus helmets for 50-60$.
>>
>>30392143

Lowest bidder.
>>
>>30393687
try Simpson Ltd, they actually have pretty cheap helmets, think there's a Dutch Brody clone for like 20 bucks.
>>
>>30393687

IMA-USA.
>>
>>30393687
Amazon. Or ebay. Your local milsurp store as well, but it would likely be overpriced
>>
>>30392467
Kek israel civil cervix still use them until mid 2000s
>>
>>30392183

Gurkhas were some of the best soldiers of the war desu.
>>
>>30392143
A few things, some said in thread.
>It's important to remember they were preparing for another trench warfare
>Easy of production
>Shade
>Increased eye protection from falling ground due to shelling
>Easy of removal for gas mask use
>Easy of removal by another to place your gas mask incase of injury
>Greater amount of secondary uses than 'bowl' helmet
>A seeming understanding that helmets don't really stop bullets, so comfort, light weight, and cooling aspects were more important
>>
>>30392256
you probably spend a lot of time in buildings and vehicles.
>>
>>30392183

Why did they draw a twelve year old boy representing America?
>>
>>30397870
To accurately represent the capabilities of the average american soldier I suppose.
>>
>>30394418
Yeah, helmets were there to stop shrapnel, debris, and ricochets, not direct hits.
>>
>>30392183
I believe thats sean connery
>>
>>30394418
Thanks for the good answer man.
sage
>>
>>30397899
Heh.
Good bants my British friend.
>>
>>30392143
Because it worked like every other steel helmed, little bit heavier than adrian(french) and little bit better protection wise.

Other than that it was for identification purposes.
>>
>>30397975
Don't call me that you fucking cunt I'm a kiwi, not treating us like we're special and unique is about the most offensive thing you could do short of calling rugby shit.
