So I just purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 (84207). I've been browsing around for a good replacement short action stock, and have been leaning towards the Magpul Hunter 700. Was hoping to see if anyone is familiar with this stock. If not, what would be some other good recommendations?

Is that the short barreled one OP? I've got one coming in next week with the upgraded trigger and all.
>>
>>30384678
>he's still falling for a decade old meme

They've gotten much better.
>>
I've got one, but have yet to go out and shoot it after dropping it into the Magpul stock.
>>
>>30384697
It has a 20" barrel
>>
>>30384713
Any initial thoughts? How was the installation?
>>
>>30384726
Not bad. Took me a little bit to figure out how to get the mag well installed properly, but the stock itself installs like any other with just a few set screws. You have to drill your own holes for the sling studs, but they mark where you should drill to install them. Just be careful not to go too deep or you can damage the stock.

Picture of it. I do wish the mag release was a bit larger.

Do you want a stock or a chassis? What is your price range?

You sly motherfucker. My rifle looks exactly the same. You're okay in my book.

I was between a few different stocks and chassis for my Remington 700

> Tactical Works Inc (cheapest) ~$450 chassis
http://www.tacticalworks.com/Remington-Chassis-System/

> MDT Tac (cheapest) ~$400 chassis
http://mdttac.com/

I ended up with the Magpul Hunter 700 for the simple reason it was cheap as hell. Got the Stock from Primary Arms for $190 (some sale), got the Magwell for $60, so stock, magwell and 5 round mag for ~$250 (not a bad deal).

Pic related my former Remington 700 ADL Varmint with Magpul goodies, (Vortex scope comes in tomorrow)

What gun mat?
>>
>>30385304
I'd like one as well.

I guess though if Marlin is "improving" and getting better rem would too no?

Sorry forgot to mention
> Removable Accessory pocket with Velcro backing;
> Removable Folded ammo pouch holds 20 individual rounds of most centerfire rifle calibers with Ballistic cheat sheet window
> Pocket to safely protect barrel from sliding out of case.

I love it
>>
>>30386786
Either or, or any combination of the two. Not looking to spend more than, say, 600USD.
>>
>>30388057
McMillan might be the answer then.
>>
>>30389071
I'm interested in their tactical A-TH model. I like the thumb hole in the stock, but can't say I've held one in person.
>>
>>30384670
Since this seems to be the thread, opinions on a Howa 1500 .308 with a heavy profile barrel in a Boyd's pro varmint stock for a beginners precision field rifle?
>>
HS Precision full bedding block.
>>
So if i were looking for a good 308 bolt gun, are the 700's good now? What about a tikka t3 or a ruger?
>>
>>30384700
>They've gotten much better.
lel, when the old standard was a bucket of shit a polished turd is indeed technically better, that doesnt make it good though.
>>
>>30390495
The complete rifle from Remington? Stay Away! It's shit.

No experience with the other two, CZ makes a damn fine bolt gun though

>>30390495
Depends on what your budget is and how much gunsmithing you want to have done on the rifle.
>>
>>30390644
I'd like to get something decent in the 500-800 range honestly
>>
>>30390715
>decent in the 500-800 range
Ahh, cant help you then, if you want to expand your budget a bit you could get a PT&G blueprinted action and build a rifle around that if you want to pay gunsmithing fees but that would be around 2k all set and done without optics.

Usually I just save money for awhile to get something better than bottom of the barrel but far from the best. Generally I find the middle ground the best as you dont have to overcome too many rifle issues while also being able to practice your technique with substandard equipment.
>>
>>30390715
See >>30390635
Reviews list it as a sub MOA gun (to 100m at least)
>>
>>30390635
>Remington 700 is shit
Now now, anon, that's going a bit far.

It's overrated, but it's far from "shit"
>>
>>30384670
Should have bought a savage hog hunter or scout rifle - lel
>>
>>30391523
Mine had chatter marks in the fucking barrel.

IN the barrel
>>
>>30391594
then return it. That's a result of bad QC, not a bad rifle platform.
>>
>>30391594
>I am mad that paid bottom dollar for a rifle with button rifling that was done poorly
I bet the fact that the sky is blue is surprising to you too.
>>
>>30384670
I've got a rem 700 sps in 223. I almost went with the hunter stock, but opted for the mdt tactical hs3 stock.

Much, much better IMO. You can customize it much more than the hunter stock, and can fit AICS mags no problem.
>>
>>30391611
The modern 700 is synonymous with bad QC and shit components gramps.

>And going off without touching the trigger

>>30391622
I was warning people away from a new production 700, what's your issue?
>>
>>30391732
Mine's new production and is fine. What bad QC are you talking of?
>>
>>30391775
Remington churned out some shit a few years ago. Real shit. Cutting costs and cutting corners caused issues with the machining, rifling, bluing etc.

but you could get that fixed/replaced by them with an angry-worded letter and then have one of the best bolt actions on the planet.
>>
>>30391732
>I was warning people away from a new production 700, what's your issue?
>Why is it that the rifle I paid the minimum amount of money for, as I cannot save up, is so bad?

The rifle would be fine if you paid for it, paying 600 dollars for a rifle wont get you sub moa accuracy usually, you people need to stop pretending that it will.

Furthermore being surprised that button rifling is shit is laughable. Either you get a cut barrel or you dont complain, you did this to yourself by conducting little or poor research and being unable to save up for something better than bottom quality.
>>
>>30391826
>Brand loyal Remfudd
>>
>>30391906
>I except the same quality out of a 600 dollar starter rifle as a 5k ELR rifle.

Are you retarded? You do everything wrong and expect things to work out and then insult others when they point out 1 + 1 ≠ 3.
>>
>>30384678
Meh, the 700 is one of the better guns they make. I want one, would be fun to plink at the 300+ ranges.
>>
>>30391966
Where did I make that claim? God you're a dipshit.

>I am arguing it's a shit rifle for any price.
>>
McMillan A5
>>
>>30384670
Save up and spend the money on either a McMillan or HS Precision.
>>
So let's say I want to spend around 1000 to 1100 dollars on a rifle and or chassis system in 308. I really like the lss chassis. Would I be better off grabbing a savage 10 fcp variant and dropping it in or buying the tikka ctr and saving up for the chassis at a later date?
>>
>>30392054
>>30392126
I think I might do this. How is installation though?
