Thought's and opinion's on the Marlin 1895 in .45-70?
>>
Best lever gun caliber, best brush/trail gun, best wilderness bet your life on it gun.

10/10 would recommend.
>>
>>30379576
Good enough for NA game.
Not enough gas for africa

Not a fan of its rainbow ballistics
>>
>>30379576
I would use it to hunt everything that currently lives on the planet.

Not many guns or rounds I would trust to save me from a Gorilla, and a group of Guerrillas alike.
>>
>>30379576
Learn to use apostrophes properly.
>>
>>30379594
What are you on about, 45-70 is a great round for the African big 5. Tons of people have done it, and the people who say it can't are usually the same people who can't hit the broad side of a barn with it.
>>
>>30379605
>people with literal autism don't understand that sometimes human error happens

Anyhow....gonna get one seen, and a reloading kit...gonna target practice it with my .45 LC for fun + hunting deer and elk
>>
>>30379640
>sometimes human error happens
Twice in one sentence and it wasn't even a situation that could ever be a little confusing.

I bet you use apostrophes on "AK-47", like "I have two AK-47's" even if it should be "two AK-74s".
>>
>>30379640
Who are you going to get to see it?
>>
>>30379664
technically it would be "two AKs-47" like attorneys general or grands prix.
>>
>>30379664
Better to have them and not need them
>>
>>30379690
Can anyone confirm if an acronym hyphenated with a number is under the same grammatical rule as "attorneys general"?

Because I'm not sure it is.
>>
>>30379576

My brother has one.
The edges of the lever are kind of sharp, so they dig into your hand in an annoying way when you cock it.
But aside from that, it's great.
Extremely powerful, too.

Sorry to butt in OP but while we are on the subject of lever guns

.357 carbine y/n
>>
I'm gonna get a lever carbine in the near future. I'm gonna go with 44mag.
>>
>>30379721
Fuck off faggots this is /k/ not the 6th grade
>>
>>30379576
It's kind of pricey for what it is i think. But I've always wanted a .45-70
>>
>>30379776
I wouldn't bother with it, go up a step and get a .44 mag
>>
>>30379837
>properly expressing yourself
>6th grade

Well we can all see when you stopped going to school.
>>
Is it worth $1200 CAD? That's what it goes for.
>>
>>30379950
Nope
>>
>>30379950

You can get the non-stainless GBL with the full-length mag for like $860-$900
>>
>>30379700
Just don't confuse its and it's.
>>
>>30379776
For fun? Because you want it/like it? Sure go for it.

For any real serious defensive use? I vote no.
>>
>>30379828
Do it. It's fun. I like my 1894.
>>
Would hunt dinosaurs with/10
>>
>>30379576
Good enough for velociraptors, good enough for you
>>
>>30379576
I have exactly the model in the pic.

Great brush gun. I carry instead of my .44 while backpacking now. AK interior.

Since Pratt likes to shoot shit in real life, he probably owns one too.

I guess this is a lever action thread now.
Anyone have thoughts on the 30-30?
>>
>>30383210
my thoughts are that lever guns in 30-30 are far and away the most common caliber
>>
>>30383210
Had a savage 340 in 30-30. perfect cartridge for anything deer sized.

Still got a couple of boxes come to think of it.

Love my 1895 GS . With how short it is a great pack gun

Afordable most reliable levergun? in either .357, .44, 30-30, or 45-70? black finish? no brass.
>>
>>30383210
>>30383292

30-30 is the most boring cartridge on the planet. Get a 336 in 35rem. Same gun, same recoil, larger bullet, faster bullet.

>>30379640
Do not try to shoot 45 colt out of a 45-70. 45colt is .452 diameter. 45-70 is .458 diameter. Not to mention they won't feed or extract, and your case life will be more or less one shot.
>>
>>30383739
>is the most boring cartridge on the planet
oh yeah? well you're gay. i bet you shove ghost peppers up your ass to stave off boredom too.

also,
>paying well over a buck a cartridge for something that's only marginally better and you're normally only going to find online.

may as well get a win 1876 in 45-75 while we're at it.
>>
>>30381435

He probably supplied that rifle.
>>
>>30383919

I suppose that would be a problem, if I was poor, or didn't know how to reload.

So I guess it'd only be a problem if I was a fuckboy using my dad's rifle because I was too useless to make money or learn skills.

AKA: You

Also,
>implying 45-75 isn't a pretty excellent BP cartridge

Also, Git Gud
>>
>>30384186
lel. calm your tits, bitch.

But seriously only a fuckboi daddie's slut spends money like a teenage girl or thinks any cartridge is "boring" for that matter. especially if they use the "muh poorfags" argument.

AKA: You.

>implying what i said meant 45-75 was particularly bad
>implying the '86 wasn't a bad design for non pistol calibers
>implying the other big bore calibers didn't overtake the chode of a cartridge that is 45-75 in lever action rifles because of later improvements in how the leverguns handled high pressure loads
>implying it wasn't to be needlessly snowflake and contrarian
>>
45-70 is less of a snowflake than the similar Marlin .450 .

45-70 FTW.
>>
>>30384446

It's pretty clear one of two things is true, my man.

You are the dullest nigga alive, with no soul for art, interested only in what is cheap and available because you lack a single interesting bone in your body.

Or

You've only ever fired 12 bullets in your entire life, and think a thuddy thuddy is anything other than a functional but uninteresting round, used only for killing your yearly dear at 50yrds.
>>
>>30383999
he probably had to. Chances are the director tried to give him a future rifle chambred in .32 future piddlypop

Nice theories. but i'm afraid i have to shoot (pun not intended) both down. I burn powder almost every weekend, and i don't have a trust fund to keep my hobbies alive. I may be cheap, but at least i don't have some complex about shooting non boutique calibers.

Though i mostly focus on black powder.
>>
>>30384592
Well, to each their own, I suppose.

You have a ball mill for your BP?

In fact, here it is.
>>
>>30384609
I usually don't need one because of the places i usually buy from come already in a real damn fine powder. Hobby Chemists are some of the most autistic people when it comes to this kinda stuff.

Though i have had stock that needed to get ground down. the deer antler usually makes a good pestle though. it's just a bit slower.

I do plan on getting a half ton press however. so far I've been corning my green powder by stacking heavy shit on top to compress it.

I kinda hate myself. I originally ordered a Magnum Research BFR in .45-70 from the factory. The day it came in, I saw what would become my 1895 on the shelf while I was doing the background check. I asked the fun store guy what it was, he just smiled and said, "Its your BFR's companion gun!" Next thing I know, I've got another gun on layaway and I'm another $700 in the hole. God damn it.

That being said, I have a lot of fun with it. Ammo's pricey, but I'm saving my casings. One day, I'll be a real boy and stop buying factory ammo....

One thing that was pointed out and I agree with is that yes, the loop is a bit sharp. Not sharp enough to cut, but enough to irritate. Meh. I still like having a pistol and rifle in .45-70 Gov't.
>>
>>30379776
Only if you've got a .357 pistol you like and have a fucktonne of ammo for it.

I did an action job on one of these for a friend about 3 years ago. The example I worked on was from the bad batch of "marlingtons" that came out after Remington took over production and totally cocked it all up. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have seen better workmanship on most shit coming out of china, just an utter lack of any fucks given on the part of the guy assembling it. before you buy one of these, inspect it thoroughly, open the action, look for burrs on the sharp corners, see if the action feels gritty like there's sand in it, see if the sights are cocked off at an angle, check the stock to metal fit, look for loose screws. if you can, check the bore and make sure you don't see any chatter marks. There are bad ones out there, make sure you don't buy one. Honestly I'd be looking for an older used one if you can find it rather then try my luck with new production, though I've heard they've fixed their shit in the last few years, but I haven't taken a look at one since then to confirm. anyway, you've been warned, might want to make sure you've got some needle files and India stones just to be safe.

>>30379776
.357 is really nice out of a carbine, and I especially love it because it's dirt cheap to handload for, and quite accurate even with cheap magtech 158 FP's
it's actually my go-to gun for when I take newbies to the range and they want to try something that's a step up from a .22
Full octagonal heavy barrel kinda makes you feel like you're shooting a baby sharps, it's pretty great

Just got one. Going to shoot it this weekend if I don't fuck my schedule up. I have yet to check the year of manufacture (not quite sure how to with modern serial numbers), but I hope it's after the shitty period. The stock to receiver fit isn't the best :(
>>
>>30383210
They're fun and common.

30-30 is still a bit pricey though, in spite of its commonality. I don't know why.
