Some airsofter recently put wood on a M60, and damn does it look good.
>pic related
Why the fuck don't WE put wood on more REAL guns?
>>30372021
Because polymer exists and is superior in every way that matters.
>>30372021
You know when I got this assignment I was hoping there would be more gambling
>>30372072
Goddamn that looks so fucking good.
>>30372045
not really, however it is easier to manufacture, and more cost effective.
>>30372021
Wood is heavier than polymer, lamination is additional money, carving the wood is additional money, less insulated, susceptible to elements
Polymer while I agree is kind of bland does serve a purpose for being the opposite of things
TL;DR
Wood: looks cool
Polymer: functionally better
>pic unrelated
>>30372021
plastic doesn't get termites
>>30372045
Fpbp. Wood only looks good.

>>30372021
All my guns have wood on them.
I can't love a weapon without wood. Wood is life. Polymer is soul-less
>>30372105
>not really
>heavier
>swells when it gets wet
>more prone to cracking
I swear 4chan turned me into a fudd.
I used to be a major mall ninja who only liked guns if it was black and had rails on every single surface, but now the only guns that appeal to me have wood and blued steel.
>>30372199
Wouldn't the weight be good for recoil?
>>30372114
>Caring about function over form
>>30372250
In a practical-use scenario, the amount of time spent carrying a weapon far outweighs the amount of time firing it.
>>30372199
You forget the part where it handles recoil better; most polymer stocks are too flimsy for precision
>>30372250
As if the M60 isn't heavy enough.
>>30372389
>what is synthetic wood alex.
modern world. ik right?
>>30372429
>synthetic wood
So instead of looking nice, your gun looks tacky like the inside of a mid-2000s Subaru? Wonderful.
>>30372221
4chan just gave me a desire to stick my dick in everything
>>30372429
>I'll take things that aren't cost effective for $500 Alex
if military:
what costs more a pattern or a solid color
if civilian:
do whatever the fuck you want it's your money, keep in mind you'll pay more than just plastic and have the only benefit of looking good (which is fine).

hahaha tactifaggot

wood is life wood is love
>>30372199
drop a polymer stock in cold weather tacticool boy
>>30372812
the only issue I can find is on the folding ones and some of Magpul's AK line of stocks
>>30372812
Great idea, scum up the logistical chain with multiple stocks, some of which are needlessly perishable. Ive got nothing against wood on civ guns, but from the military perspective wood has gone the way of the dodo for a very good reason.
>>30372897
>That MAC video
>tries to rack AK
>slams stock down on ground
>stock cracks right off
>throws the AK off camera
>>30372072
Forget the wood, that charging handle is pretty fucking aesthetic.
>>30373183

>>30372109
This.
OP literally BTFO
>>30374311
???
How am I " BTFO "?
I argued that we should use it for aesthetics like the M60, never once did I even imply wood was superior to polymer.
>>30372812
A/K/ here
I do. Don't repeatedly expose the weapon to extremes of hot and cold and you'll be fine.
I.e. once the weapon goes outside, it stays outside until oper8an is done.
>>30372021
there are problem with wood
#1 it has to be selected to be free off knots then dyed
#2 on most rifle and shot gun stocks some hand finishing is required on top of the normal lathing and milling\
#3 as seen in Vietnam and some other places wood does badly around moisture
it warms and snaps ( you may not have ever seen a wooden tennis racket and there is good reason for that
>>30372045
polymer needs larger metal backing to stop it from over heating
wood takes a little longer to over heat but in some cases leaks varnish
>>30374182
This. Anyone know what model that is?
>>30377173
Nodak Spud makes it NDS-34

>>30372357
>disregarding every small arms weapons system in the US inventory
I like wood on my guns too, but come on now.
>>30372812
Soviet army literally replaced the wood of their AKs as soon as they reach the point of capable of mass produce polymer furniture.
Because of how ahitty wood perform in cold or wet environment.
>Once upon a time you can have practicality in mind without being called a fag.
Because I don't want to own a meme gun.
was the M-16 the first gun to use polymer in its construction?
>>30377187
66.80 shipped
>>30372021
Because while wood furniture looks nice, it's heavy, not very water or heat resistant, hard to keep clean, and not as sturdy as some polymers for combat or survival situations, not to mention it can be more expensive. There's a reason we stopped putting it on military rifles years ago.
That said, put it on whatever you like, it's not like you can't just throw on something else if the situation calls for it.
>>30372181
Elmer, is that you?
>>30377358
No, poly started being used as furniture in the 40s.
>>30372660
This.
The only reason for wood on an AR is for the looks. Thats a good enough reason for me! Any other reason and you are lying to yourself.

Where did all these mall ninja fucks come from? Sure, polymer is lighter and all that, we get it, but that wasn't the fucking point of the thread, was it you tards? Not everything has to be all about maximum function, sometimes things can just look nice
