Match Ammunition in the 175gr+ weight class will get you the combination of bc and velocity you need to get to 1k. If you reload, 208gr AMAX ahead of a carefully worked up load of RL17 can get you well past 1300y. A 6-9 bipod really restricts you to bench shooting, if you'll be shooting prone you may consider a 9-13. I prefer to shoot with a rear bag, you don't need anything fancy a sock with rice in it will work in a pinch.

Measure your splash in Mils and multiply it by 3.4377 to find the adjustment in MOA. If you are doing it in your head, just use 3.5 to make it easier for yourself even if it is less exact.

A better bullet for the range. 7mm mag can do 1k, 338 lapua is a better choice if you have the shekels. Pick a rifle with a nice tight twist.
A higher magnification, 25 or 26x will work. I recommend vortex.
Your bipod is fine.
Start reloading for it too. You'll save money and be able to tune for your rifle.

308 is fine for 1000 yards depending on ballistics, rifle and shooter. A 700 with a free floated barrell, tracers and a spotter you should be able to hit @ 1km.
10x magnification works, anything above that is just luxury.

The man has a .308. It is 1k capable and beyond with the right load. Yes there are a host of other chamberings that will make it easier on him, but all he needs to do is feed his rifle correctly, and he can go play.

Hand loading is pretty much a requirement for serious long range shooting.
Look up the sniper 101 series on yootoob. He has good info on the mildot stuff.
