Can anyone give me the tl;dr bullet points of the weapon and tactics used? I know picrelated is the weapon. I don't know how it's been modified, if at all. As I understand it, most of their shots were within 100yds, but they still managed to miss plenty. I'm finding conflicting reports in exactly how many people were shot.
They were shooting through a hole in the back of a car.
Honestly I'm surprised no one has tried it since.

Tactics? They cut a hole in the trunk of a car so they could shoot through the back seat without being seen.
It took a long time to catch them because the attacks were random enough that a clear pattern couldn't be easily established to link the victims to the shooter.
Not really a strategy, just "hide and shoot at people that you don't know."

It was mentioned a lot and they were pretty sure he was a Muslim because it was about a year after 9/11 and the entire country was getting ready for the Iraq War. The only thing people talked about was Islamic terror.
In the weeks after he was caught, it was on the news near constantly. They spent most of it speculating, but the pictures of the two were doing the rounds for nearly a month.

Because news reports at the time were speculative as to whether or not this was a terrorist attack and the PD didn't want to incite a panic. Can you IMAGINE if they'd come out and said "yes, we're looking for al Qaeda snipers on American soil"? What people don't remember is, even then after 9/11 we weren't looking for Islamic terrorists. We were still worried about former Soviet specops going rogue and homegrown militia types. Islamic terrorism wasn't a main focus until after 7/7.
