Let's forget about the price for a second. What are the things that make a flashlight good or bad? Pic random

rugged body: a must
submersible: a must
strike bezel: a plus
1000 lumens: good
dual output: very good
momentary switch: a must for HD
belt holster: good
surface mount pouch: good
LiPo battery with minimal self-discharge: good, and probably is unavoidable for high discharge lights

cycle switch: bad

What else did I forget?

the only raisin i have a surefire is because it was a gift. There are plenty of options that are way better/as good as a surefire light for 1/3rd the cost.

Legion - yes.
Surefire - convince me.
>>
>>30357629
>spend 15x as much
I don't care how much something costs, having spent money on things people were calling overpriced in the past and then, through experience, learning why they cost that much and why it was justified.

However, the only reason Surefire is good I hear so far is because anons are chanting "Surefire is best". Unimpressed. Give me reasons.
>>
>>30357526
innawoods you want a headlamp, preferably with red light. being able to use both hands and stealth is key, high lumens have only very limited use.
>>
>>30357864
Honestly I just wanted to shitpost. I think they are nicer than Streamlight an Inforce. I've heard of people having failures with their Inforce APLs but I never had a problem with it.

Surefire makes great stuff, it's just expensive. At least for their weapon lights. I think the price for the G2X and the P2X aren't really that high if you are looking for a handheld light.

For a handgun wml, I think the Inforce APL's side paddles are nicer than working the Surefire X300 but the X300 is brighter and pretty much indestructible.

For long guns, I think the P2X or G2X work just about as well as the M600 or M300 Scout lights. I bought the M600 to use with a pressure switch or use a recessed tailcap when not using the pressure switch.

But the P2X found its way back onto another rifle and works just fine. For like $50, it's hard to beat the G2X imo.

Strike bezels are mall ninja shit that mostly just tear up your pockets, honestly would rather not have them.

In my opinion dual output is nice until it's shit, as in you have to fuck around clicking through modes while you need max illumination fast. The only good dual output modes I've seen are ones with a rotary head or with two separate buttons for different modes.

I need this light not for a handgun, but as standalone/home backup/HD/carry light

Not planning to carry in pockets. Will it tear the dedicated belt holster as well?

I like my Fenix PD-35's Honestly. I carry one on my rifle as well as one on my Person (PD-35 TAC). Attached to my rifle is my OLD PD-35 with a remote Switch. Cheaper than any thing out today and bright enough to Blind Anyone I come across.

So add Multi Mount Functionality without custom assembly.
>>
>>30358031
Try Streamlight, maybe the Protac 1L, or a Fenix.

>>30358095
Probably not as bad. It's just kind of weird looking to have a belt pouch unless you're some kind of blue collar workman. At least where I am from, it would definitely be at least 8/10 pussy repellent.

Not sure about Li Po Battery but one that is similar to your other batteries so that you can keep simpler stock and recharge in a simpler format.

I live in a place where people walk with shirts out all year, so it will be concealed. That'll just be an addition to a CCW and a couple of mag pouches already present.

Fenix PD-35 TAC is your Friend. Get GOOD batteries (See Pic) and you will only spend $$$$ on the light once.

fenix pd22. Not mountable but it's a great small pocket light

Yes, Surefire are expensive and until recently they were behind the LED times. But they work when you need them the most and can take a beating.

Similar to optics, sure you can get a Bushnell or Primary Arms red dot for way cheaper than an Aimpoint, but when you have them side by side you can definitely see the difference in quality.

Yes it makes sense but there are better components if you want them. Skip rechargable CR123A Batteries as the life is shit (the extra components necessary eat the overall capacity in half of Non-Rechargeable Batteries)

Personally I recommend the NiteCore D2 Battery Charger for 18650's and the Orbtronic Regulated batteries Batteries. I have 4 of them for my two Lights and rotate them between daily usage and go-bag storage every month.

Best Batteries I have found to date and I have been using 18650's for at least 8 years.

I started out with CR123A's in A fenix Tk-11 then went TK-22 and have been using PD-35's for daily use for the last few years. I switched to 18650's after the CR123A's Died in the middle of night in the rain. Never going to let that happen again. The only thing I use them for now is my Pistol Light and for those I exclusively use
Panasonic Lithium CR123A's because they last the longest with the most predicable pattern.

Surefire, Inforce, Streamlight, and Elzetta are my go to brands.

To add to this: whenever I can't find a manual for a product, it smells like a snake oil to me. Case in point: Surefire E2D LED Defender Ultra - good luck finding the user manual. Scant description on the website, no way to find out how buttons operate (which may be the key to life and death for HD).

That's hype in my book, especially given the price.

Anyone out there with a link to that manual?
>>
>>30358125
Did you have a chance to see how it withstands water? The manual (https://www.fenixtactical.com/manuals/fenix-pd35-3-user-manual.pdf) specifies a bogus "IPX-8" protection level (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code), which indicates either an idiot writing the manual, or an attempt to obscure the actual level of protection.
>>
>>30359053
I Put my PD-35 in Strobe Mode(SOS) and tossed in in a 12 foot deep pool and let it run over night.

I came back and it was still water tight and flashing 3 hours later... and was still running the next morning as well.
>>
Fenix PD35 - what's a good holster for it? The one that comes in a kit is apparently no good
>>
>>30359262
The one that comes with it is ok for Self Carry. If your looking for something that you carry around while you are grappling with a bear get a custom one made out of thick leather. I carry mine inside a Jeans Pocket with just the clip most of the time.

>>30358872
Where do ThruNite and Nitecore stand against these?
>>
>>30359490
>Nitecore stand against these
Nitecore Chargers are good.
I have a D2 DigiCharger and Couldn't be happier with it.
>>
>>30357526
A few suggestions -

Have a way to attach a lanyard, dummy cord, or day-glow streamer (so you can find your flashlight when you drop it innaleaves)

AA batteries for the pocket light, because
1. that's what my radio uses
2. can't always find Cr2s in gas stations

Wrap 2-4 rubber bands around the tube for a gooder grip with cold, wet fingers and to keep it from slipping outapocket.

Forget the strike bezel, unless you want to break it on a tree or rock or something stupid like that.

1k lumens: meh. shorter batter life
>>
>>30359490
I'm a Thrunite fan. I've been buying a new flashlight every year or so chasing the best specs but the TN12 is the last one I will purchase for a while, it's just about perfect for me. 1k lumens, tailstanding, rear switch, cycle button, and shortcut to strobe. And it's only $50.

Why not TC12?
