Greetings /k/ameraden!
I have recently acquired a 1941 duv K98 for $575 with about 300 rounds of ammo for it. 210 of which is Turkish Surplus ranging from 1942-1947 I was wondering what to look for in this ammo before I feed it to Erika.

Sorry to wreck your shit dude, but the worst surplus I ever bought was Turkish. Hope you have better luck than I did.
Kudos on the mauser though
>>30350893
What was wrong with it, misfires? Split shells?
>>30350920
>misfires
Every 3-4th round. I ended up pulling the bullets
>>30351008
I'm taking them out to the range tomorrow I'll let you know how they do not keeping my positive attitude high here sounds as if I'll have to get new production stuff in the future any recommendations?

>what to look for in this ammo before I feed it to Erika.
Cracked necks, projectiles loose in necks, corrosion on cases that leaves discoloration when wiped/polished off. Otherwise have fun with it; my Vz.98/22 loves this shit because it's as close as you can get to old S-Patrone.
>pic related, 3" at 200 yards
>>30351093
Will do thanks anon I'm going through all the stripper clips right now to check for shitty rounds to pull
It's the cheapest ammo for a reason. Don't fire it out of anything semiautomatic, it's known to hangfire, explode and crack the casing, or burn super quickly and create a lot of pressure.

S&B makes good shit. Learn to reload- I used some of my dads 125gr spitzers in my 8mm mauser, something about that rifle loved light bullets before I rebarreled it, nailed clay pigeons at 200yds all day long. Ill be here tomorrow waiting OP.
>>30351153
Just got the old bolt action if I ever get a G41/43 in the future this stuff will never touch it I'll shoot Selliot and Belliot through that darling
>>30351043
I'm

listen to >>30351153 too. Don't get discouraged though, you got a pretty good deal regardless
>>30351201
>30351201
Yeah I had to drive 40 miles to pick up the rifle but the dude was my grandpa's age and super chill. He even had a bayonet for my M44 he through into the deal you can never get these kinds of deals at gunshows
>>30351123
Yeah, don't get too concerned; a lot of people confuse Turkish surplus with Iranian surplus. I've shot shit from as far back as 1937 without issue. It's meant for long 29.1" barrel infantry rifles, so it burns long and the resulting pressure curve is what makes it ruin semi-auto rifles.
>>30351257
Nice Carpet, perhaps one day mine will grow as long
While at a gunshow last winter I seen a decent condition Turkish Mauser for $200 and I kick myself in the ass for not getting it. But I did walk out with a $450 P38
>>30350863
if its got Cupro-Nickel bullets it should be good. My Gew 98 loves it.
>>30350893
What type of bullet did it have? Curpo-Nickel or a Copper jacket? I have bought abour 60 rounds of the Copper plated stuff and it never worked
>>30351282
I've got a sported ankara year 1939 in great shape I'd be willing to sell for tree fiddy.
>>30351991
It looks to be Curpo Nickel colored not the brownness of the copper
Well OP is signing off for the night I'll have results in the morning anons
>>30352212
u got pics?
Shameless Self-Bump to keep this thread alive while at the range
>>30350863
I have some Turkish stuff right now that runs pretty good. it fuckin' stinks, and is dirty as shit. But it's not bad with accuracy for the most part, haven't had any split cases or misfires yet. Just one soft strike.
The 50s Romanian ammo OTOH, had quite a few split cases, misfires, soft strikes, etc.
You really won't have any serious issues unless you're running the ammo in a semi-auto desu senpai. Just Windex your shit after shooting, and clean her up nice when you get home.
Pic related, HIGHLY suggest investing in this bore compound for any milsurp ammo in a milsurp gun. This stuff is just the tits.
I shoot the Turk ammo in cold weather. It is loaded hot. Would not want to be on the receiving end of that round.
OP here
I've come back from the range shooting 5 stripper clips of 1947 production stuff, that shit kicks harder than my M44. But Erika ate through it flawlessly
Never had a split case or rupture so I'm impressed cleaning her up right now
It grouped as I thought it would at 100 meters
Overall it was a fantastic Wisconsin morning to take an old rifle to the range

yaaaasss
Love Kar98ks!
>>30355317
How is the barrel on yours? Any frosting or nice and clear?
>>30355338
>Wisconsin morning
Ayy fellow 'Scansinite; Driftless represent!
I'm hitting the pistol range this afternoon to try out my Israeli Hi-Power copy.
>>30355317
That's a nice 3 shot group OP, glad it worked out for you
>>30356602
The barrel is darker but the rifling is very crisp I am looking for a powerful bore cleaner anyone have suggestions?
>>30350863
That shitty Turkish surplus is a real testament to how strong the mauser 98 really is.
>split necks
>Case crack/splits
>Popped primers
