I agree! Anybody else really want a Russian made AR in 5.45?
>>
>>30350040

Does a Minnesotan-compiled piston-operated 5.45 AR count?

It wouldn't be legal for Russian civilians, they can't into 5.45. Not sure if such a thing exists, would be interesting though. A Russian made lower with Cyrillic fire selector markings would be neato.
>>
>>30350023
Those might be a bit excessive given they prefer light 5.56 over heavier match stuff. I'd consider a fixed 4x or a 1-6x, both paired with an RMR-style red dot.

I have a question. I'm considering springing for my first AR. As of now, I have no real special purpose in mind aside from "mid-length gas system, 16" barrel do-it-all rifle". I know nothing about ARs. However, I'm really liking the look of the Colt LE6940 rifle. Assuming I can find one for around $1200, with the same budget, what could I get if I built an equivalent rifle? I'd prefer to use decent parts, and the Colt at least has a monolithic upper that looks like it free-floats the barrel, and I also like the flip sights as opposed to the fixed front sight on the 6920 series .

What are /k/'s thoughts on the matter ? I'd rather post here than in the AR containment thread, since I've seen them treat AR babbys like shit before.

make sure it has the BHO intact and functional. if its broken or missing, youre basically shit out of luck. in order of cost and desirability from most to least, costa mesa/ howa/ sterling.
sterlings are the cheapest and easiest to find, also what i have. if i could do it again, id pay more for a howa, or a better condition sterling. mines definitely a shooter grade.
check the mag its comes with also. while you can easily modify an ar mag to fit, actual ar180 marked mags go for about $60+ each.
its a neat gun, i dont regret getting it.

I might just buy one and store it away for the day when the bolt does go. I mean the gun will most likely last me forever, and it won't be my main gun that I fire 1000 rounds through. I'd either get an ak/ar for heavy use and more rare guns for once-in-awhile range trips

Build one, don't buy one.

I built this Colt upper with an Anderson lower for like $700 or something. It's a simple classic build, but it's really all you need. This is a ~400 yard gun in this configuration without optics or other fancy bullshit. All that can come later if you wish to do so.

BCM barrel w/ A2 FH, Colt A2 upper, Mil-spec AO bolt & carrier

Anderson Mfg AM-15 lower, CMMG LPK (really nice trigger tbqh), VLTOR IMOD stock and buffer tube.

Bretty good rifle, quality parts, and for the price? You can't beat that. Surf around for deals, BCM has some pretty good deals on scratch and blem barreled uppers w/ out bolts.
