Hey /k/. Does anyone know if/when CMP will be restocking Garands?

In May they sold out their last non-C/D model M1s. I haven't been able to find any conclusive information about whether they will restock in the near future.

I also read that some General in South Korea is playing politics and withholding the big stock of M1s that we lent them. If we ever got them back, it is assumed that they'd end up with the CMP.

Obummer wont' let the Korean Garands back in.

The M1911s are supposed by going to CMP, but that literal fag SecArmy hasn't signed them over. There is a clause in the 2017 NDAA that would send all the M1911s to the scrap heap. To be turned into Hescos.

CMP Forums is the best source for information.

That is horrifying. Also, I didn't realize there were CMP forums, I'll check them out. Thanks.
>>
Anyone have an opinion on the best bang-for-buck grade? I was thinking Service Grade if they ever come back
>>

Korean guns have nothing to do with CMP, as they are not lend/lease guns. Century was going to import them, and they blamed obama on having to fire people who were going to process the guns.

Lower tier garands won't be open for order from CMP for maybe another 4 months or so. It depends entirely on how fast they are able to process orders. They are not out of garands, yet.

National Matches start in less than a month. They always have the north Store stocked for walkins during the N.M. Of course, I would call first...

Cool. I'm headed to an Appleseed event next month, that should wrap up all the documents required for me to order. I'll try to get in on the next round.

I think that if they set aside racks or service grades for people to buy in store, a lot of people are going to bitch and moan on the forums about how unfair it is.
>>
What do you actually need to buy an M1 garand from the CMP?
Seems like a lot of bull shit
>>
Anyone have experience with the service grade rifles?
What are the main things to look out for on the service grades?

By all means, don't do it. More for me.

Proof of US Citizenship

Proof of membership in a CMP affiliated club (there are simple clubs where you just mail in a $14-25 check and you're in for a year)

Proof of active shooting activity. Usually getting a range officer, cop, etc to sign off on your range time, participating in a match, etc
A C&R FFL seems to fulfill this requirement as well.

If you want the rifle sent directly to your front door;

C&R FFL

If you're in california, you'll need a Certificate of Eligibility. Not worth it if you're just doing it for 1 C&R gun.
>>
>>30346459
CMP sends directly to your door without c&r license in free states. c&r can be used to satisfy the firearm activity requirement.

Everything also needs to be notarized, which a lot of people bitch about for some reason.

>got a new barrel from cmp for my shot out garand
>no gunsmiths near me will install/ream/headspace it for me
>has sat in my room on a shelf for a year while i debate buying the tools myself or traveling out of state to a smith who will do it.
>tfw PING-less for a year
>>
>>30346492
If you go to Perry or Anniston, they have notaries on site.
>>
>>30346459
CCW in states that have a proficiency requirement satisfies the shooting requirement also.
>>
should be in the next month here. They're unfucking their stock and rebuilding the last salvageable examples.

Once they're back, get one. We're seeing the end of Garand surplus here soon.
>>
>>30346552
banks and insurance agents usually have notaries on staff. I did mine at my insurance office for free.
>>
>>30346527
Fulton will do it via mail for reasonable prices.
Or you can sack up and get yourself a decent vise, a set of .30-06 guages and a bigass barrel wrench.
>>
>>30346527
That sucks man
>>
>>30346394
Service grades are g2g.
If you want, you can request they leave on the old stock, even if it's fucked up. But they're guaranteed to work.
>>
>>30346599
fulton seems cheaper than buying the tools. thanks anon
>>
>>30346636
I requested original stock on my service grades, and one has compression damage in several locations. Although it also has a rack number on it, and that's radical.

>>30346677
Shit. I didn't know you could request the original. My service grade just came in and it's got new wood. The stock fits really nice, but it's a bit of a bummer.
>>
>>30347266

You can request whatever as long as it's within the grade description. You can't order a standard service grade and request an International Harvester or Winchester or something of the like, but asking for GI wood or WWII barrel etc. there's a small chance that they may honor your request. They are by no means obligated to though so don't sperg out if you ask for a WWII Springfield and get an HRA.

What price should I be going for on a decent all around shooter tier garand? Not looking to shoot matches or anything, just need one for my America collection.
