Between the AR and AK I've decided to go with the AK. But now, I'm having trouble deciding between the typical WASR or a DDI. Arsenal is out of the picture.
I understand the general pro's and con's of both but would like ya'lls input.
Edging towards WASR but only because it's factory built and not just a parts kit gun.
Find the newest WASR 10/63 you can, they are much better than they used to be.
Or get a Zastava and don't forget to clean the barrel.
Zastava quality and craftsmanship is a little better than the WASR but no chrome.

Is the wood on the WASR as bad as everyone says it is or will it last me a long time before upgrading?
>>30343371
Depends of the rifle I suppose.
But in my experience, yes the wood is shit.

>telling people to get shitty CAI npaps instead of 10x better wasr 10s
fucking what?
OP, wasr 10/63, nothing else.
>>30343405
>CAI npaps
CAI is an imorter you fuck, they also bring in WASR's.
And I actually have experience with both. Yes the build quality on Zastava's is better, tolerances too, but no chrome.

Don't fall for the dichotomy meme. Buy both.

Get the chrome lining OP.
Especially if you want to shoot corrosive ammo.

Wood on my WASR was great, that's an early 2015 Century 10/63.
Though I didn't keep it very long. Currently waiting on my Makeup Zhukov stock.

Thank u 4 servux autocorrect

Wasr 10/63's haven't been imported since 2012, I believe you mean the new production wasr 10's
>>30343371
it's shit, ugly wood but it will last fine.
>>30343342
Save extra and get an Arsenal.

The laminate wood that used to come on the 10/63's is decent once cleaned up and refinished, pic related, my wasr. The hardwood on the newer 10's is pretty much junk that chips and cracks easily
I have a '14 WASR with the blonde wood. It was untreated when i got it (no laquer/oil/etc coating it) but some linseed oil and it made it look a lot better and has held up fine. I haven't smashed bricks with the stock yet but I don't understand where this "WASR wood a shit" meme came from. I haven't seen anyone post pics of this happening.

It's markedly inferior compared to the laminate, milspec stocks the older 10/63s used to get. The hardwood is softer it seems, and I've seen them get gouged pretty bad.
Get the wasr bro

Here's a pic
>>30344979
I'll admit it has some gouging on the underside of the handguard from light use (the handguards do seem pretty weak, that was before I put linseed on it) but the stock feels solid to me. Ymmv

This, also if you can find a Yugo m70b1 those are pretty rad too, got mine for $600

Just get an arsenal. You get more options like a side folder or triangle and a 74 brake. You are more likely to get a fucked up WASR off the shelf than a fucked up arsenal.

>tigerstriped wood stock
sand that shit down.
get ferric nitrate (you can get the crystals from any chem shop and add to water in a mason jar)
stain with ferric nitrate
let it sit overnight
stain with ferric nitrate
let it sit overnight
rub with throwaway denim
brush lightly (don't scrub) with ammonia
hand-rub in the boiled linseed oil.
proceed to enjoy permaboner.
Google Ferric Nitrate Wood Stain for results.

thanks fampai. its one reason i like the wood on it. ive wanted to enhance the contrast of the tigerstripe but was unsure how to do that, but now ill have to do what you suggested.
