Why are clones of this so infrequent compared to the 1911?

Why are clones of this so infrequent compared to the 1911?
>>
>>30335888
Because they couldn't clone the best all-steel 9mm every made. Also, its an acquired taste. I used to find it ass ugly, but now its grown on me.
>>
muh two world wars
>>
>>30335888
Because just like the 1911, it shit

>>

Because it does nothing other doublestack 9mms don't do, and was designed to get around 1911 patents rather than be innovative.
>>
>>30335888
because the 1911 got it right and makes everything else obsolete before it even gets of the drawing board
>>
>>30335921
>muh S&W pot metal meme gun that hasn't been made for 20 years is duh best!!!
>>
>>30335888
Why clone it if there are tons of surplus ones, and Browning still makes brand new ones?
>>
>>30335888
The 1911 is near mythical in the US because of being the sidearm of WWI, WWII, and Korea. The Hi-Power is just another 9mm, even if it is a JMB design.

Patents, Licenses, and copyright. You probably can't make a Hi-Power clone and call it that without a pile of lawsuits.
>>
>>30336055
Aside from the barrel bushing, barrel link, spring life and extractor. Look how fast the A1 came along. feed ramp is debatable. I love 1911s but there was room for improvement depending on what you view as improvement
>>
>>30335888
Because the design for the 1911 is owned by the Army, and thus has no patent or trade mark protection. Whereas the design of the Hi Power is owned by FN, and all the "clones" are made by people who pay a license fee.
>>
>>30336023
Ding ding ding! We have a winner.
Iirc Browning had worked in a striker fired 9mm double stack that would have been the High Power, but the French insisted on single action hammer fired with manual and magazine safeties.

Browning (now Miroku iirc) makes new ones but they're like $1k for a gun that hasn't seen much improvement. The MKIII is a preferably fine gun and Miroku does fantastic work, but that's $1000 for a gun with fuck all for options, still using 13rd mags, no night sights, no compact options and two models. Browning is the fudd branch of FN and the last modern handgun they made was the Pro-9 marked FNP9.

They don't even make a 1911 and the 1911-22/1911-380 a cheapo umarex tier.

That being said the bhp is slim and trim, like a longer sight radius g19

Yeah but they're really well made fudd stuff. <3 BLR.

Patents only last for like 20 years tho
>>
>>30336456
^this.
The CZ is by far a much superior design to the hi power.

To be fair it is practically a hipower with a modern touch.
>>
>>30336486
Oh no doubt, a family friend loaned me a BAR safari for a while and it was glorious.

Two of my ridiculous dream guns are a SBR BLR take down and a BPS gauge with a briley mfg may extension so I can load my own 000 Buck loads that don't pattern like shit.
>>
>>30336720
>a SBR BLR take down
I'm not sure how possible that is given the way the bolt and action work in the BLR. The inside is like a Swiss watch.
>>
>>30336720
>BLR
if only the lever action on it was not literally gears.

Because the trigger design is fucking retarded
>>
>>30336786
have fun reassembling the fucker

Such a stupid idea
>>
>>30336737
There is literally nothing preventing one from cutting it down to the fore arm or shorter. The entire action is in the receiver.

>>30336795
>>30336977
What about that is intimidating to either of you? Thats actually a pretty simple design. You could mark the cogs for indexing if you wanted
>>
>>30337132
It doesn't matter where you mark the teeth, it's a pain in the ass to put in the gun and get it in the proper tooth

And on top of that, any sand or anything in there would sieze it right up

Gears and computers do not belong in firearms
>>
>>30337453
One fucking granule is what made Ian slam the fucking mosin into a wheel barrow to get the bolt open.
>>
>>30335888

>muh stopping power
>>
>>30336795
fuck that's simple.
I've literally seen more complicated systems in nerf guns.
although the fact that the trigger comes down with the lever is kinda weird

>>

Wouldn't the patent on the design already be up? If I remember right they expired after 17 years back in the day.
>>
>>30335994
exactly why the hell is this that dame price Rock island I am looking at u get your shit together make me my high power for 500
>>
>>30338047
Trademarks are forever. If Browning trademarked the name Hi-Power then they'd have to pay license fees to use it, and at that point it's both cheaper and more effective to use an improved derivative design like the CZ75B.
>>
>>30338057
They could just call it an "hp"
>>
Because these exist
>>
>>30335888

Because it doesn't do anything that other metal 9mm pistols don't. Its overpriced from the mfg and has a bad trigger by design, for the money your better off with CZ's/clones and metal S&W autos and their own clones.
>>
>>30335888
>BHP clones
>uncommon
are you on crack? it's one of the most cloned guns on earth. It's very likely your handgun traces part of it's lineage to it. Direct clones are pretty damn common, though mostly internationally.
Really, there's just not much of a demand due to the glut of surplus guns, foreign clones and lack of US interest
>>
>Nightshit buys $300 beat to shit FN Hipower from shitsurplus
>gives it a new cerakote
>new sights
>price it at $3k
lol
>>
>>30337453
Good thing sand isn't made of glue then.
Give it a few smack, blow the shit out and work the lever like you mean it
>>
>>30338057
>If Browning trademarked the name Hi-Power then they'd have to pay license fees to use it

Thus the clones and not licensed copies. There isn't a big enough demand, that's all there is to it
