What is your EDC flashlight? For your firearm or for your pocket.

Personally I use a Surefire E2D Defender.

It's nice, but it's huge and gets stupid hot because of the old incandescent technology.
>>
>>30318843
Maglites are great for home protection because of their shear size and material, but for EDC its way too big and bulky.
>>
>>30318874
It barely fits in my backpack.
I use some cheap dollar store flashlights for edc use since I'm poor and you can get 4 of them with batteries for $10

who here has actually used their EDC flashlight?
>>
>>30318880
For self defense you can pick up flashlights for about $20 that have 1000 lumens which work better than pepper spray imo
>>
>>30318884
I have, when i'm out at night going down dark roads, walking my dog, finding keys. Even if you don't use it oftern, it is always good to have. None of use use our firearms, but we still have them if anything were to happen
>>
>>30318818
I don't EDC a light since my phone has an excellent LED flash.

I do take a light when I go /out/ and it is either a Princeton-Tec headlamp or a Nitecore P12GT.
>>
>>30318818
I carry a Streamlight MicroStream and it's useful as fuck, ran me under $20 at a local lighting shop.
>>
>>30318885
There are no 1000 lumen lights for $20. The emitter alone would cost almost that even in bulk directly from Cree or Luminus.

There are plenty of light makers who will bullshit you on output but when you test them they don't make half the lumens claimed.
>>
I use a Streamlight Microstream. Tiny size for a lot of lumens, good utility, fits in the pen pocket of my ACUs as I need it. Tough as shit too.

My first model survived being left outside for 3 months buried in snow when I lost it. Battery still had charge. Lost it in February and found it in May when the snow melted.

I've carried a steamlight protac 2 for about 2 years now. Use it for pantry of stuff like looking for sit in my car, changing a bulb in my dark ass basement, walking dog/ anytime i happen to be outside and its dark. It's a lot more handy then i though it would be when i started carrying it. Just last night i pulled in to the driveway and tight i saw a racoon. Hit it with the light and turns out its a skunk.

I also use the E2D Defender. Got it when I was disarmed at university. More reliable than pepper spray (also banned for some reason), it's light, no one thinks twice about you having a flashlight, and people who get blinded by the flashlight are going to have an even worse day when you smash in their face with that strike bezel.
>>
>>30319973
Hey, I have some questions.
bear in mind, I'm not from America, however I am not against carrying weapons and etc, just curious.

What do you need a swiss pocket knife for?
What do you need a knife for (if the gun's for self defense? and you have the swiss knife)
What is your job? can you come with the gun like that to your office? (socially I mean, and where do you put it? still on your holster?)

Oh, why do you need a flashlight?
>>
>>30321435

>>
>>30321435
Not that guy but...

Where the fuck do you see a Swiss army knife?
>>
>>30321525
Not either but,
look at the keychain.
>>
>>30321435

>What do you need a swiss pocket knife for?

I use the victorinox rambler on my keys to mainly open bottles, letters, and I use the tweezers as well. I also like the small scissors for cutting loose strings on clothing, etc.

>What do you need a knife for (if the gun's for self defense? and you have the swiss knife)

I don't carry a pocketknife for self-defense, I carry it because I use it on a daily basis at work to open boxes and shit. Knives are horrible defensive tools, granted they can be used in an emergency but I'd rather just use my gun.

>What is your job? can you come with the gun like that to your office? (socially I mean, and where do you put it? still on your holster?)

I work in a laboratory, the gun is concealed on my person at all times and nobody knows I have it. It's not illegal in my state to do so (I have a valid carry permit), but if my work found out I could be fired. But it's been 3 years of carrying it daily to work and nobody knows.

>Oh, why do you need a flashlight?

Work related, to inspect dark shipping containers. And also because there's a 100% chance of darkness every 24 hours. Modern lights are bright as fuck and small and easy to carry, why wouldn't I carry one?
>>
>>30321435
>Oh, why do you need a flashlight?

If there was a 90% chance of rain, would you bring an umbrella or a rain jacket with you?

Now consider the fact that there is 100% of darkness every single day. Why wouldn't you carry a small, easily carried flashlight?
>>
>>30321594
>I use the victorinox rambler on my keys to mainly open bottles, letters, and I use the tweezers as well. I also like the small scissors for cutting loose strings on clothing, etc.
fair enough I guess.

>I don't carry a pocketknife for self-defense, I carry it because I use it on a daily basis at work to open boxes and shit. Knives are horrible defensive tools, granted they can be used in an emergency but I'd rather just use my gun.
Well, If you need it for your laboratory job it makes sense.

>I work in a laboratory, the gun is concealed on my person at all times and nobody knows I have it. It's not illegal in my state to do so (I have a valid carry permit), but if my work found out I could be fired. But it's been 3 years of carrying it daily to work and nobody knows.
Is it comfterable like that?

>Work related, to inspect dark shipping containers. And also because there's a 100% chance of darkness every 24 hours. Modern lights are bright as fuck and small and easy to carry, why wouldn't I carry one?

>100% chance of darkness
Can't you just use your smart phone? (not work related)

Did you ever shoot it in self defense? are there a lot of niggers and spics in your area?

Thanks anyways based ameribro
>>
>>30321813
>Can't you just use your smart phone?
Not him but, smartphone lights suck. You want something that can really light up an area.
>>
>>30321824
I get it if it's for a trip/work but would you really need that daily?
>>
>>30321843

>>
>>30321862

good reasons.

Na, probably just some other drunk kids going around the street.
I live in a rich town that's close to tel aviv, no mudslimes here so it's safe + city lights everywhere
>>
>>30321968
>city lights everywhere
I actually used my pocket flashlight a lot when I lived in the city because the bright city lights cast shadows that are very hard to see into with the light in your eyes.

Maybe you guys can help me out, the exact flashlight I'm looking for is the surefire EB2 Backup with tactical switch, but it appears to be discontinued.

Anybody know of a flashlight, surefire or not, that not only operates the same way, but has a similar size?
The next closest thing is the regular Backup with the tactical switch, but Im not a huge fan of the length.

>>
>>30321435
>Oh, why do you need a flashlight?

One thing I never realized before starting to carry one is just how handy they are to have on you at all times, even during the day - for instance, just checking under a desk for that one goddamn thing you just dropped, the light makes it a lot easier to find (or diving behind a computer to plug in a cable.)

The other reason is because criminals prefer the cover of darkness whenever possible for obvious reasons, and nothing stops them short like a nice bright light in the face and a brusque "who the fuck is that" interrogative. And with a light in their eyes it's a lot harder to see what you've got in your hands, making it much easier to play Mexican Judo.

I carry a Streamlight Protac 1L. I like how affordable it was, and how small it is, but there's no button guard, so it gets inadvertently turned on sometimes and I don't always notice it immediately, so it burns through batteries faster than I'd like. It's also got a cracked lens, that I'm not sure what the cause of was.

It's a decent little light but I'm planning on getting one of the smaller Surefires eventually, I just have had better experiences with my Surefire lights.

I own a E35UE, it's pretty great, but it lacks a clip, I heard you can rig a PD35 clip onto it, I'll try to find one.

I use it daily at low light or mid light settings, high light (360 lumens) when I need to find something on the ground, I've never used the 900 lumens mode for real, just for testing, it can illuminate a whole room without problems if you aim at the ceiling.

>>
>>30332746
The regular PD35 or the Tactical version?

-No Pocket clips are available for the Strion AFAIK.

-The Strion is rechargeable without removing the battery, however Fenix does make other lights that are rechargeable.

-While the Strion can accept 18650 batteries, it will only charge the proprietary 2200mah Streamlight batteries.

-The Strion is not as bright

Been using the streamlight microstream for 3 years give or take, held up fine so far. Battery life is annoying but it's fine besides that.

Thinking about trying the chink shit Ultrafire I got off amazon for $3.15 out for a while, but the clip is shit. It looks like it will fuck up a car door something fierce if you accidentally brush past it. Microstream's clip is pretty nice since it is S shaped and rounded at the bottom.

For $3.15 it is pretty good though, I my case it is a three mode, you got the adjustable lens, takes a AA, fairly bright. Going to buy 5 or 6 more so I can get rid of the shit maglights that don't work have the time, Harbor fright and other shitty ones.

http://homestudy.ihea.com/firearmsafety/01actt.htm

Rule #4. "Identify the target and what's beyond it". Flashlight helps a lot with that in the dark. Also, since shooting the fucker is your last resort and not your first reaction, having them dazed and confused will help to magically turn their behavior into very docile and civilized, and thus avoid shooting them in the first place.
>>

>good reasons.

Your sarcasm is understandable, however, it also betrays your inexperience. I won't comment on nigger infestation (somehow never lived in those areas), but wild and even more so feral animals can be a real danger to a person moving alone, day or night. I had to deal with packs of feral dogs after economy went to shitters where I lived - believe me, that's nothing to sneeze at.

As for coyotes... pretty harmless unless there's a pack of them or you're already incapacitated.

/k/ friends,

Please recommend me a new flashlight.
I had the Fenix PD32 which I loved but lost. 300 Lumens was more than enough for most applications.
On one hand 18650 flashlights are a bit too big for EDC as a college student but I do in fact want interchangability with primary cells (CR123, alkaline AA etc).

Charging your flashlight /out/ with a USB powerbank is disgusting. Just bring more 18650's or CR123's.

Bottomline: I'd like a smaller batterysize than 18650 but also normal battery acceptance.
AA + 14500 lights are interesting but good lights are rare.
