Fuses or the whole HEAT-T projectile design. It was quite a weird looking thing - basically they married HEAT-warhead from 105-mm artillery shell to shell body of 114-mm HE-shell. Just looking the pictures the resulting shell looks quite front-heavy. What I could found out the resulting shell design was only ever tested from one particular range to target.

BT-42 was pretty horrible. To cut the story short it could have been relatively useful as self-propelled artillery, but certain key persons (most of which had very little experience about armored vehicles) insisted it to be used as assault gun. This happened regardless of several reports indicating that the vehicle did not suit to its intended role.
